Planning VS Subconscious

Recommended Posts

It's not that bad to just let the subconscious decide personality without any prior planning, is it? Or perhaps, in general just let the subconscious decide everything but the visuals and voice. I wouldn't mind being surprised by my tulpa at an early point. Thoughts?

Just thought I'd ask something that I was wondering to kick off some activity. I don't like the /mlp/ threads that much.

From what I've read and heard from Dane, the biggest benefit of working on the personality (and doing so first) is quicker sentience. I think Dane mentioned that his second tulpa was showing signs of sentience after 24 hours of tulpaforcing. I'm even willing to guess that it's the personality work that ends up giving it sentience.

I'm doing personality first (and I'm still building a personalty trait tree; haven't even started tulpaforcing yet) for a few reasons.

The first, is that I can't even think of a form for my tulpa, so I'm going to decide on the body after the personality is nailed in; I'd love to let the tulpa decide on its own body, but I'm not sure if it would be sapient enough at that point. At the very least, if the personality is down, I'll have an easier time deciding on the form, based on that personality. Does that make any sense?

The second reason, is that I think everything needs at least a base. I think leaving out the personality when tulpaforcing may end up with a servitor or "hologram."

And while it's true that if you leave something out the subconscious will probably fill in the rest, from what I remember, even if you decide to create the personality how you want it, there's a good chance it will mold to what your subconscious wants anyway, just like the body would.

I think Dane said something along the lines of, you could start with Personality X, then the subconscious comes in and molds it to XY, then the Tulpa may decide to leave out traits, leaving you with personality Y.

As for visualization and other senses, you have to work long and hard on it, or the tulpa won't seem very real to you.

It might work to let the tulpa choose its own form, then work together on that, trying to make it more real. But this would probably take much longer.

Goddamn it, I hate forums, but fuck, I'm here.

I'm gonna go ahead and validate what Pleeb said, and add the fact that if you're vague with personality you can't automatically assume one will form itself.

Well, I thought since I normally have all these random questions and other sentences suddenly popping up in my head from time to time (even before this tulpa thing), I guessed I could just let them run off more frequently, but with an accompanying hallucination. Again, was just an idea.

Personally, I can't imagine making a tulpa the way Pleebe mentioned. First pure personality, then body. I need to have some visible object, to work on personality. I can think of separate emotions, but it is impossible to me, to even imagine sentient being in my head just as a voice. This is why I started with scratch of body, and then created personality.

But I think completing visualization of body, and allowing some subconscious personality of mine, to attach it, is very interesting idea. I would try this, but I'll be afraid, I'll end up with insentient puppet.

As a whole no matter how much work you put into something it is still going to deviate as much as it would with less work. The difference is that with one scenario you're ensuring yourself sentience and with another you're not.
