I've seen it reccomended as a cure/help for tulpa headaches. Never really questioned it till now, it doesn't make any sense to me. Has anyone compared drinking vs not drinking orange juice? And what about orange juice vs cold water? I could see maybe hydration helping (forcing makes your brain dehydrated? I dunno)

My understanding was that it's just a long running joke that it's a magic bullet for tulpamancy

I just did a quick Google search, and apparently Calcium can prevent and/or stop headaches. Orange juice is a good source of Calcium, so drinking it helps. Supposedly Magnesium also helps, especially with Calcium.

Dav: Orange juice has water, and a lot of natural sugars and acids that gives your body a boost. If the headache is caused by mental stress rather than typical headaches caused by muscle stress or sinus pressure, orange juice helps.

You could likely get a similar result drinking pickle brine but who'd want to when orange juice is handy and tastes good.

You can also drink sports drinks like powerade but the sugar is what your brain is craving, not the salt. Running or physical exercise throws off your electrolytes. Mental stress mostly consumes your available sugars.

I'm sure there's something better out there than orange juice, but it works and is handy, so whatever works.

Melian: Orange juice is yummy.

Mistgod: Placebo effect?

Hmm, how would you study a placebo in this case? Can you make something that tastes like orange juice but isnt orange juice?

If we want to test Dav`s guess, maybe somehow extract all or most of the sugar and replace with aspartme? Can you even do that, extract sugar from orange juice?

I can say that Tang (orange drink powder) doesn't work nearly as well.

Soda despite it's sugary goodness doesn't seem quite the same either.

As far as I know vitamin C in Orange juice helps mainly the immune system, don't think it helps brain function.

We need a nutritionist to ask, or at least someone into biology.

Well, from what I learned in my Intro to Behavioral Neuroscience class over the summer the concentration of Calcium ions in the neurons helps control the amount of neurotransmitters released when the neuron fires. Maybe the Calcium thing I mentioned earlier ties into that? I'm really not sure, but it would make SOME sense.
