Slushie July 19, 2012 July 19, 2012 considering how well stage hypnosis can be done Stage hypnosis is nowhere near the same thing as clinical hypnosis and I really wish people would stop citing it. Astral project on my face, brother!
TulpaCouple July 19, 2012 July 19, 2012 Technically, everyone is a hypnotist if you think hypnotist=someone who can hypnotize. Have you asked someone to get you something and they responded automatically? Maybe when they were tired? Avoided waiting to talk to your parents until they were in a better mood, or maybe even used your tone and body language to smooth out an argument? It's not an actual title you receive in a degree, it just means you are a person who knows how to communicate. Road hypnosis is still hypnosis, advertising is hypnosis. If you can remember the phone number in a jingle, that's a part of it as well. Repetition, phrases we can relate to, etc. It's done in speeches and politics. People have studied the fact that people are more likely to vote in the next election if you ask them "Do you think it's important to vote?" vs. "Is voting in an election important?", it connects the person with the event in a more real and measured way. Like I said, most people think hypnosis is this big bullshit thing, it's not really. It's very simple. Even a hypnotherapist will tell you self affirmations are all a part of it as well. Now if you want someone to be certified, you want them to be a hypnotherapist. A hypnotherapist learns what key phrases relate to helping people--they learn the psychology of why people gain weight and how to combat that. Or they'll learn the same psychology any therapist would about depression and trauma, but their cure comes from talking, rather than out of a bottle. Hypnosis is pretty loose. It's the same as meditation, self affirmations, those little empowering word bubbles, etc. It's just suggestion and nothing more. Read some hypnosis books, they'll all tell you the same.
Dialogues July 19, 2012 Author July 19, 2012 Possibly, but I have experience in all of those things. Also, I have a very nice microphone. Plus, what's the difference between someone with a college degree in something and someone who has done the study and practice on their own? None, really. A sheet of paper does not a professional make. Tulpacouple, I agree with everything you said except the part about focuses being bullshit. It's just another way of getting the brain to enter into a hypnotic state through sensory overload.
Guest Anonymous July 19, 2012 July 19, 2012 ~The first decent answer I've heard in support of hypnosis That was actually a pretty good supportive argument in favor of hypnosis. Although I'm not going to personally bother with it myself, I can understand your logic to a degree. I can see the system being really easily abused to make money off of those who believe it too readily though.
TulpaCouple July 19, 2012 July 19, 2012 Tulpacouple, I agree with everything you said except the part about focuses being bullshit. It's just another way of getting the brain to enter into a hypnotic state through sensory overload. All I mean about focuses being bullshit is really just that they don't physically do anything. Looking at one will not hypnotize you, and not using one won't mean you can't go into hypnosis. Unless of course you put up some mental block that makes you. Some people are afraid to look at them for fear of being hypnotized into taking their pants off or something. It's a distraction and a good one and it keeps your mind there. And when people believe it works, it works. And really that's all hypnosis is, do what works to get you into that state of mind.
Lunanite July 19, 2012 July 19, 2012 Using a shitty 128kbps microphone playing through an equally shitty 128kbps set of earphones are going to make a massive difference than if done by a person sitting right in front of you from the fact that a "hypnotist" would be able to physically interact with you. Your use of the word "hypnotist" is so loose that anyone could be a hypnotist. In fact, although I have absolutely no experience in any form of therapy, psychology, or social sciences and my degree is in an entirely separate field of study, I'm now a hypnotist. I'm hereby certified to hypnotize anyone as long as they're willing to pay a small fee. I don't care about any of your *imo* incorrect statements, all I care is that it worked in the sense that I got deeper into calm and meditation then I ever have, and I think better practice in the future can really help out. Also, being literal, Dialogue's mic quality was fine, and sounded very clear on my end. *oraginal signiture dnt stl plz* Lazy forcer extraordinaire. Also _lewd.
TulpaCouple July 19, 2012 July 19, 2012 I can see the system being really easily abused to make money off of those who believe it too readily though. Why do you think it's so hard to learn about self hypnosis? They've got it pretty good right now. Though again, believing it too readily would mean it worked for them. It's a bit like tulpaforcing, you have got to believe it to see it work.
