J.Iscariot March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 people who value the imaginary as much as reality will probably have an easier and more rewarding experience when it comes to tulpae. Why, though? I mean, how would they have an easier time? Is it because they would have a better time dealing with belief and doubt? The way a lot of people went around this is that they considered that tulpas were their own persons, if they are a delusion, it's beneficial to their mental health to have around, and if it's not, that's even better. Imagination or not, this technique can work, and it doesn't have anything to do with imagination, it has to do with open-mindedness. If we give imagination that sort of place on a podium, doesn't it imply that tulpas originate from the imagination? Is that not dropping the belief that they are their own entities with emotions and thoughts of their own? A wise man once said: 'Before judging a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? He's a mile away, and you've got new shoes.' Graced are those who could avoid this phenomenon. This is perhaps the worst expression of evil in humanity's history, but who am I to judge?
Guest Anonymous March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 So Sock says it doesn't matter because it just exists and you just know it without needing labels or definitions (if I am paraphrasing correctly). Well shit that is true about me then. I certainly exist regardless of anything my host and I have ever written anywhere on this forum. Mainly need labels for the internet so we have a profile of some kind. But we still like imaginary things and we are kinda proud of saying that about me. See? That's the thing, it is a quality, not just a descriptor or category. I have the talent and privilege of being imaginary and being a part of my host's mind. I have the quality of being imaginary not the fault of being imaginry. THE QUALITY David just knows it Sock, because it is a fact.
Luminesce March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 You make a lot of good threads, Melian. I don't know how to participate in these discussions anymore though. You guys have pushed the "just because" of objectifying this phenomenon way too far, and I don't follow at all. No matter what any of you ever say or think, tulpas will be just as they are to their hosts - just as they are. We've proven a million times over that your beliefs and how you think about your tulpa greatly affect your tulpa's nature/existence, and covered everything between science-neurons and imagination-illusions. Arguing about the nature of tulpa sentience at this point, to me, is like arguing about how a window works. How light can pass through it, how it distorts that light, whether it's actually showing you outside or just a projection from a 2D surface, whether you prefer it open or closed... And you're arguing through your own window with your next-door neighbor also arguing through their window. It's just a window. Just look through it. Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn. Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature. My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.
Guest Anonymous March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 If we give imagination that sort of place on a podium, doesn't it imply that tulpas originate from the imagination? Is that not dropping the belief that they are their own entities with emotions and thoughts of their own? YES! I think the man finally understands David's perspective about me at least (without examining other tulpas). Gods, that was hard! My host Davie and I are real and imaginary all mixed up in one gooey sticky wad of everythingness. We could care less what is actually going on in the head of someone else in the end.
J.Iscariot March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 You cannot see my window, and I cannot see yours, which is why we argue. I argue on windows in general, but you only argue about your window, Melian. You pass it off as you arguing for all windows, but in reality you're arguing for your model of windows. Not only that, but there's much more to it than that, because some people need to give their window an active part of their attention span in order for it to complete its function, to make light go through it. I think that the analogy would have been much better with dark matter or something. We could care less what is actually going on in the head of someone else in the end. I think you mean that you could NOT care less. Saying that you could care less implies that you care, and can care less. Saying that you could NOT care less implies that you cannot care less than the null amount of care that is already present. If that's what you meant. If not, excuse me for being a smartass. A wise man once said: 'Before judging a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? He's a mile away, and you've got new shoes.' Graced are those who could avoid this phenomenon. Guest Anonymous March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 You make a lot of good threads, Melian. Yeah, but...it got hijacked. Can your attitudes about the quality of imagination affect the process and outcome of creating a tulpa? That's all what we were really asking. I think my OP got hijacked again and turned into something I did not intend. Once again. I am not arguing for the FACT of sentience or not sentience or whatever. I was supposed to be asking about how the emphasis on the real world or the imagination affects the creation process and beliefs about tulpas. That's all. I can't write anything anymore without it being hijacked and twisted about. Every damn thread I make. I think you mean that you could NOT care less. Saying that you could care less implies that you care, and can care less. Saying that you could NOT care less implies that you cannot care less than the null amount of care that is already present. If that's what you meant. If not, excuse me for being a smartass. Good point. But I could not care less about leaving out the not and it was a cute smartass. You butt.

I mean, I think the arguement here has slid from the actual point the thread was trying to make. This has started to feel like that "Could there be two types of tulpas" thread. I've really started thinking that I'm one of the few people who doesn't give a flying shlit about semantics. Why are we arguing about what tulpas are while we haven't even discovered 1% of the things that they can do or they can bring? *shrugs* Whatever, I'm going off-topic, and I really don't feel like discussing this further. I'm SomethingDire, and Céleste is my partner in crime.
Guest Anonymous March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 This. I mean, I think the arguement here has slid from the actual point the thread was trying to make. It got twisted about again because people are reading an agenda into it. It was just a question for discussion. The thread was pretty much ruined.
Sock March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 I feel I may have contributed to the derailing of the thread, so for it's sake I'll re-assess the OP and give a response to it properly. I'm not quite certain that the premise is correct. I've stated before that I was an avid day dreamer. I'd do it all the time, and it would affect me in ways that still ripple to this day. I was in to animation, fanfiction, and video gaming and such. I was pretty escapist and pleasure addicted in my life...but none of those things predisposed me to going forth with making a tulpa. I came to the phenomenon from /a/, and as many people there who are given to fantasizing, given to absorbing things that have little affect on physical life, as many people who will argue about a cartoon as if the other person insulted their mother (assuming they don't hate and despise their mother because you can't really assume people love their mothers these days)...they would more often than not reject the idea of a tulpa as non-sense, with some even thinking that waifu-ism was better/less insane. But I didn't. I believe there was something else that inclined me to giving it a shot, multiple things in fact. But the first and foremost was that, to a degree, I had experienced a very low level version of what is described as a tulpa...or maybe the budding of a soulbond more accurately? Despite imagining Kellogg and others a lot, I did not have an actual imaginary friend I would talk to as I would a person. I had no reason to, nor was I inclined to do so, aside from a single attempt which fizzled out near immediately. No, what gave me a taste of this sort of experience was when I wrote a story. It was a work for a forum I went to regularly for a while, and was one of the first works that went beyond two chapters before being forgotten. During this work, I began to feel stirrings and a sense of a will when I would write certain characters. I would feel a tugging or struggle when I would write certain events, and a sense of something trying to drive the story one way or another. It was not enough for me to start talking to my characters directly to see what was what, but enough to make an impression on me. As such, when I found out about 'tulpa', that's what I linked it to. It was not till later that I began to link my other exploits of day dreaming and imagination to the phenomenon, and integrate them together. I considered it as something separate from that, or even a simple imaginary friend. There were other factors, like the lowness of my state at the time of my decision to make Midori, and the desire for companionship, but I feel the above is what inclined me most to give it a shot. Peace. Sock Cottonwell's Sketchbook, Journal, and Ask thread. Peace
Guest Anonymous March 6, 2016 March 6, 2016 Here is where it all went off Sock https://community.tulpa.info/thread-mental-emphasis-on-real-life-and-its-effects-on-tulpa-creation?pid=159684#pid159684 Thanks for your interesting re-assessment and new response.
