Guest Anonymous October 19, 2012 October 19, 2012 I know this sounds stupid, but please hear me out. So a few months ago I posted a thread about "What fictional character is your tulpa most like?", which is very self-explanatory. I gave a list of Helix and Pixel's influences, and others inputted their $.02. But I've recently been dwelling on the idea of: If you obsesses yourself with characters similar to your tulpas, whether it be through reading, watching media or other form of absorbing information, could that help with your tulpa's development outside of forcing? Lemme give an example: Helix, in some ways personality-wise, was inspired by Vriska from Homestuck. If I decided "I'm going to read all about Vriska's personality, and all the quirks and such about it!" would that somehow help Helix, as I would get a better understanding of a personality very similar to Helix's?
Sands October 19, 2012 October 19, 2012 Please, I do hope you are not looking for a way that doesn't take any effort on your part. I know you are having a hard time, but you can still give it your all. This Vriska is not Helix, even if she is similar. Perhaps it might help you, but what I think would help the most is to understand Helix, not Vriska. A character is never quite the same as a person, though a person can start out as something rather simple... If you like reading, why don't you read with Helix? See what she thinks about it, even if she can't answer. She's still there, listening and understanding. Perhaps she would appreciate it if you talked about this other character with her, it might tell a lot to her as well. Well, I always liked talking, so I would like others to experience a lot of it, too... And perhaps you would find it easier, mh? Sands says "Go force". Guest Anonymous October 19, 2012 October 19, 2012 I don't like reading. I'm not trying to give myself a shortcut. If I did want one, I would've smoked some good ol' marijiwana to give myself the schiz by the time I'm 20. But I don't want one. I considered merging Helix and Pixel back into one being once, but decided against it, even if it was easier. I did consider making a guide on deciding on how what your tulpa should be like based on your favourite characters. I never got around to it but I think I might soon. MAYBE.
Lolimancer October 20, 2012 October 20, 2012 My tuppers *are* my favourite characters, sort of. I suspect Yuki is who she is just because i had her avatar at the time she appeared out of nowhere. Amamori appeared and decided to be a character from the same novel Kaoru is from, which happens to be my all-time-favourite piece of fiction. Alice is from that same novel, and as far as i know she had a form since the beginning (and started with attacking my fucking wonderland when i told her i didn't-want-any-more-tuppers-for-fuck's-sake). So basically, if you don't make them already, they might intrude on you.
QB2 October 20, 2012 October 20, 2012 Obsession and repetition seem to help. Would only make sense. More attention to your tulpa. The above post does not contain facts. q2's the host, QB's the tulpa.

I can only see benefits, the most attention you give to your tulpa the faster they will grow. pix: Link Diary: http://ponystasha.tumblr.com Koomer.
probably crazy October 23, 2012 October 23, 2012 I try to keep Pinkie in mind when I play videogames; she has been helping me play smarter. So, yes, keeping your tulpa in mind when obsessing with something may well be productive. In the likely event that I post something strange or foolish, please read my name again. So, yes, keeping your tulpa in mind when obsessing with something may well be productive. I've had Placidia help me out in solving puzzles in games like Deus Ex. I think us working together like that can really helped devlop her. So I suppose taking the concentration you have while doing something fun like playing a game and then associating tulpae with it could help in development.
moondragon November 4, 2012 November 4, 2012 You do not sound stupid. No one here really knows me, but the whole reason why I sought out people on the internet who are either into soul bonding or creating tulpas has to do with experiences my friends and I have had..Along time before I knew there were these kind of internet communities, and I only found out there were, because a bitch who was a friend of one of my online friends was mocking them. Anyway, I did know someone who successfully created a tulpa, and some of what she was doing was obsessing on a certain anime character her tulpa shared personality traits with. One reason that worked might be because different people focus their will with different methods.
hakase November 5, 2012 November 5, 2012 Whether or not obsessing over a character is good depends on what outcome you are looking for. It depends on if you want Helix to be Vriska or if you want Helix to simply have some major things in common with Vriska. This Vriska is not Helix, even if she is similar. If you want Helix to be a carbon-copy of Vriska, then go for it, and obsess over Vriska as much as you want. However, then it will be the producers of Homestuck, and not you, determining every single defining aspect of Helix because she is a copy of Vriska. My advice would be to allow Helix to have a handful of Vriska's traits that you like, and then define some of Helix's traits on your own, allowing some deviation to occur along the way. I see no problem with basing a tulpa off of already existing characters, but straight-up copying a character is lazy and a massive waste of potential. You're selling yourself and Helix short if you do so. "Give a man a Truth, and he will think for a day. Teach a man to Reason, and he will think for a lifetime." -Phil Plait
