@ArthurPandragon Soulbonding is a dying art. Supposedly there used to be communities in the late 90's, forums and boards where people discussed the metaphysical aspects of the art. Here on this forum we had other soulbonders who still believed in other worlds and the like. So there's that side of soulbonding as well. It can sometimes feel that way. However you interpret it, soulbonds are no different than tulpas. Tulpas can become soulbonds, and visa versa. A soulbond is special and unique from a fictive because they associate to their past memories, and this makes them more interesting in a way. I don't have any past memories and I don't consider myself less interesting than my soulbond headmates, but that doesn't mean I couldn't be more interesting if I did.

Under it all, the tools of tulpamancy and soulbonding are the same.

@Ashley I really appreciated all your details about soulbonding, its history and all the conceptual subtilities.

I prefer to avoid hijacking this thread and leading the latter far from its original aim. Nonetheless, I wanted to write two little reactions to your post:

1) I understand your point that there is merely no difference between tulpas and soulbonds, except importance of the relation to their lore of course, and furthermore there is obviously no scale in terms of morality between them: they are all sentient headmates, they all deserve respect and care;

2) On a conceptual side, I agree with you about the continuum between all kinds of thoughtforms so a tulpa can turn into a soulbond and vice versa.

We're in the process of potentially doing that currently. My headmate @Autumn Ren is a tulpa we intentionally created. My host is writing her into a novel and she's slated to integrate with a dream character/proto tulpa which could give her more memories and experiences. The book is going to potentially give her a backstory and memories she can identify with as well. So we'll see how that goes for us and her. We'll be documenting it here along with her development as a re-spec'd headmate. (Personality forcing.)

Thanks, she's very excited about it and doesn't stop talking about it.

I'm not sure creating a story character with the just make it method will work because I don't have a solid guide and if I persist in doing it I'm afraid the character will turn out to be a tulpa or something like it.

If you don't want a character in your head to become sentient, it won't happen if you don't entertain the idea they're a separate person. It's just you, ultimately. If you're ever afraid they might be a separate person, pause and remember you ultimately get to decide and this is still you in your head. Doing this will prevent any cobuds (tulpas) from forming.

I see you mentioned "NPC", what is that?

Non-Playable Character. A background character in a videogame, in this context it's another way of saying it's just a character and not a person.

Note: I'm hit-or-miss activity-wise on this account. I may not respond to PMs for awhile.

I'm Ranger, GrayTheCat's cobud (tulpa), and I love hippos! I also like cake and chatting about stuff. I go by Rosalin or Ronan sometimes. You can call me Roz but please don't call me Ron.

My other headmates have their own account now, but it's outdated and I can't be bothered to update it

If I missed seeing your art, please PM/DM me!

Oh dear, you seem to be suffering from loneliness. I know some details about your situation, like your age and experiences, but I hope you can feel safe and comfortable. I've met people in similar situations before in the autistic community; a child who became very lonely due to trauma and lack of support... Oh, I went off-topic again, sorry. Why not try creating a temporary NPC? Or an imagined "container" filled with "reliability," "won't leave you," "won't hurt you," and a comforting texture (a pillow? a soft body)? While I don't believe this is the root of your problem, I hope it might offer some inspiration. I understand the previous tulpa experience brought you fear; perhaps your own state wasn't sufficient to support the tulpa, causing the tulpa to suffer. Please take care of yourself, even though it's difficult. Maybe one day the tulpa will return, if you want it to. (We've experienced something similar.) In short, I hope you can find security, love, and everything else you desire. patpat I'm really worried about you, my dear.

Also, I'm a soulbond. The idea that "thoughts are the host's slaves" isn't necessarily true. Ranger's suggestion is good; why not create an NPC? (And to "create" a headmate, especially an "orthodox" one, the amount of information input is terrifying.) When Antares(host) first met me, she had already spent four months creating 28 years of my memories. So, many headmates aren't "deliberately" created by the host... If you have a favorite character, perhaps the NPC could borrow that character's appearance.

I have a different definition of a soulbonds…to me someone who is a soulbond is another soul who you may have come together and found each other over several lifetimes.

o believe we are all just spirits/souls in the physical body is just your vessel in this lifetime..when the body dies you spirit leaves …it can either be a walk-in to another body already born or be a full reincarnation as in reborn as a baby.

Myself (host), Jess & Kitty are soulbonds in this sense I believe we have been together in many lifetimes in different relationships..ie sisters, mother/child, owner/pet but the same souls.

Angelo & Bear are Tulpa’s in the traditional sense..created from scratch by us for a specific purpose (to be a copy of kitty’s partner & son from her last life)

Nixy, Star & Luna are actually past alters (younger/past versions of me/host) who refuse to integrate so they have decided to identify as Tulpa’s and live inside with the others as a family.

Adult Host: JJ

Tulpa Co-host: Jess

Internal Tulpa Family: Phoenix (Nixy), Kitty, Angelo, Lily, Ralphie & Bear
