fennecfoxx November 18, 2012 November 18, 2012 those things hardly compare to a tulpa that runs away, has self confidence issues or is suicidal (is that even really possible? (because I've read about it)) Yes, sadly, that is possible. I would know. Unless you're referring to tulpae actually being able to kill themselves. I'm pretty sure that is possible, though. Deluded myself into believing my imaginary friends were real, then deluded myself into thinking they weren’t. Whatever the case, the OG gang’s still here: Host: fennec (they/them) Tulpas: Alex (he/him) and Kayleigh (she/her) Delete all memories of those who know my awkward past

I'm pretty sure that is possible, though. It isn't a very nice thing to think about but I do wish the best for any tulpa out there who are having trouble. I'm happy to talk about any issues anyone might be having, maybe even help them get through it. I'm glad Nova hasn't created any issues, I don't know how I'd deal with them.

If that was partially directed toward us, thank you for your concern, but I think everything's pretty much okay now. CyberD November 19, 2012 Author November 19, 2012 Well you and anyone else who might be reading. I read that you were having problems with Link but it sounded like you sorted them out. Hopefully you guys don't have any more trouble. If you keep having the success you've been having then I doubt you'll even have time to worry about little things with all the possession you're doing.
fennecfoxx November 19, 2012 November 19, 2012 Yeah, about that... ^^; >.< He was doing better for a couple of days, but... after that... yeah, turns out he was kinda just pretending he was still okay because he didn't want to worry me. *sigh* Oh well... For real this time would be wonderful :D If you ever need any advice I can try to help but in the mean time I'll try to keep up with your progress reports. So, new topic for a new post Aggressive Forcing VS Passive Forcing. What kind of forcing is best for a tulpa? Which is easier and which yields the best results. As I see it there are two very distinct ways to force with your tulpa. Aggressive forcing is when you set a time, sit down and think of nothing else. You have your hour long session every day at the same time. There are very few distractions and you can do whatever you want, you can go to your wonderland or you can imagine your tulpa in the room with you. Then there is passive forcing. This is where you take your tulpa with you everywhere you go. They ride the bus with you to school, they find a desk in the classroom, they eat lunch with you and they watch you play sport with your friends. That would be if you were still in school. Basically the tulpa is in your life as much as they possibly can be and they try to keep you focused as much as possible. Each method has some very serious pros and cons most of which are easy to see. Aggressive forcing is where most beginners start. They make a time slot in their day and they count their hours. If the host is consistent then the tulpa has great opportunity to grow. Their appearance and personality can be discovered and locked down over just a few sessions. The fixed time slot builds confidence as each session is fulfilling and progress is easy to measure. Passive forcing is something that seems to come later in many cases. Focusing on the tulpa while busy with other activities qualifies as multitasking, a dreaded term for many. Passive forcing encourages the tulpa to actively define themselves and call attention to their actions. The tulpa builds it's personality by responding to external stimuli, it reenforces it's appearance and most importantly it begins the path to imposition. When the tulpa becomes aware of an active, ever changing environment it learns to adapt. As the tulpa's presence becomes more consistent (you don't keep getting distracted) then the tulpa can strive for imposition. Many of us use both methods. Others use only aggressive forcing. In my case I use passive forcing almost exclusively and have done from the beginning. From day 1 Nova has been free to join me wherever he likes. He came to work with me on day 4 or 5 and since then he's followed me everywhere. When he began interacting with a moving environment he granted himself ghost powers. He did this to avoid running into street poles and to avoid getting run over by cars. By focusing better on path-finding I try to give him enough room to walk without phasing through objects or other people. I believe that was a good first step towards imposition. It certainly helped me visualize him at least. For us imposition is still seems a long way away. But, by working on consistency by passively forcing as much as possible I believe it is something we can achieve. Also, on a different topic. What's in a name. By discussing it with Nova I realized why we've come up with two names for him. For those of you who don't remember (or didn't read all the earlier posts) The second name I use for Nova is Noah. Noah was actually the name I was going to use but I decided at the last minute to go with Nova instead. Nova is an idealized name, it's like Luna or Ruby or some obscure Japanese name in among characters with normal names. It's a name you'd probably associate with a Mary Sue character in a poorly written fanfiction. When they start most people decide to create a tulpa that is perfect, why wouldn't you. You can make a tulpa in with an image you consider ideal and a personality to match. If they are going to be in your head you make them as good as they can be, subconsciously or not. By using the name Nova I was shaping him to my ideals. It made him special to me, more than human. Nova had superpowers and nothing could stop him. Why would I choose to have some weak tulpa who limped around and couldn't even fight off a bad dream? I think this kind of image is ultimately destructive. It is great for visualization but not for imposition. To impose something you have to trick your senses into believing it is really there. It is a bigger stretch to impose a perfect superhero than it is to impose a normal teenage boy. That's why I've decided one thing to help us and I hope we can make it stick. Nova's online name is Nova. Nova's real name is Noah. Noah is a normal and quite common name. I've met several Noah's before an it isn't an obscure name that would turn heads if someone used it in real life. Just like how I never sign up to forums or online games using Daniel as my username Nova will be the same. Referring to him as Nova online is okay but talking with him while I'm out and about will not be. It's a big change for us but I like it. It'll be interesting to see if it has any effects at all.
CyberD November 21, 2012 Author November 21, 2012 30 minutes. That's how long I've forced today. That's also how long I've been awake today. Passive forcing is a powerful thing if you can keep focused. Some people will only spend 30 minutes to an hour with their tulpa a day, since Nova is watching over my shoulder my timer doesn't stop. Lucky I don't count hours.... Tulpa in the media I've only come across the name tulpa in the media once. An episode of Supernatural pits Sam and Dean against a malicious tulpa. It's not exactly the same way we view our tulpa but it is based on the same Tibetan thoughtform practices. Not what I wanted to talk about though. Tulpa like characters appear all the time in tv shows and movies. Often it's used a plot device to drive internal monologue, to sort out thoughts or to act as a voice of reason. Yesterday I realized I've been watching a character develop a tulpa for years. Dexter. You know, the show about the serial killer killer. Dexter himself has something that could be called a tulpa. When he's alone Dexter visualizes his dead father, he sees his father imposed over reality and they have intelligent conversation. Most viewers just see it for what it is, a plot device to explore Dexter's thoughts but anyone who has heard of tulpa can see what is really going on. Of course it doesn't stop with Dexter. Plenty of other shows use similar ideas but just not a frequently or seriously. Has anyone else come across good examples of tulpa in the media? Also, Nova would like to point out that I compared him directly to Dexter's tulpa during our passive forcing earlier. But really it's like comparing two humans for being human, the similarities stop there. What's in a name (Part 2) I think this is going well for us so far. I can refer to him as Nova online but I get reminded many times a day that I'm not supposed to call him Nova when I'm talking to him. It's interesting that Nova is the one reminding me, almost scolding me everytime I forget to call him Noah. That happens to be almost all the time. Six months is a long time to try and override. It'll take a bit of practice to get used to calling him Noah all the time but I like where it is going.
CyberD November 24, 2012 Author November 24, 2012 Although it has been a few weeks since this experiment, I'm wondering what happened to your orb-battery-thingy. Have you used it repeatedly to improve your focus, or have you discovered anything new about it? Hi. Yeah, the orb-battery was definitely a fun experiment. Half of the fun was figuring out what the orb. We did actually use it, though it wasn't in a very dramatic way. Expending the orb through visualization I continued to focus on my wonderland session with Nova for another fifteen minutes instead of going to bed. I think we got more out of figuring what it was rather than actually using it. I think the battery part was just a bonus side effect. I'd recommend trying it for yourself. The orb is what your Tulpa makes of it. You should try it out with Gan and see what happens. Tulpa and Dreaming As I've said in numerous posts Nova was first created to help me with my dream recall and to achieve lucidity during dreams. He never was a tulpa by definition and instead I just called him my character. Looking at the idea of tulpa as a whole I'm surprised more people aren't interested in dreaming. The Tulpa method is a great way to improve self-awareness throughout the day while creating a very distinctive dream sign (something you might see during a dream to help you realize you're dreaming.) For me I've had much better dream recall since I first created Nova and it also gives him purpose besides simply existing. By having the never ending task of trying to keep me as aware as possible all the time Nova is always around and always has something to talk about. I bring this up because last night I had two lucid dreams (Dreams where you realize you are dreaming) In both of these dreams I immediately set out to look for Nova but despite remembering several minutes of content I never found him. It's curious, Nova's original purpose was to show up in my dreams to help me but instead I spend all of my time looking for him. More than half of my lucid dreams are like this. He's always around at the snap of my fingers during the day but during dreams I have to actively seek him (as if he were a real person busy with his own activities) Why? I really have no idea why this happens. My best guess comes down to the way I see him during the day. Often we talk and I don't focus on his body at all, he's just a voice. He's there but he's not. Maybe my subconscious picks up on this. It's intriguing to say the least, certainly not discouraging. At least my subconscious always makes him another person. I've never communicated to him like he's a voice in my head during a dream. (Although technically everything is inside my head in a dream.)
CyberD November 27, 2012 Author November 27, 2012 Spectating vs Participation It's a problem that's been occurring more often recently for us. I want Nova to participate in what I do, to have a purpose in my activities. Instead he's usually downgraded to a spectator with little input as activities capture my focus. Ideally I'd love to capture the levels of participation from a wonderland or dedicated session and transfer them to other activities during the day that don't necessarily involve him at all. Being able to remain focused enough to treat him as true person during a complex activity would be great but it is a difficult skill and many activities don't lean towards that at all. So I pose a question. What kinds of activities can I do to involve Nova without him filling the role of "Spectator"? Ideally the activity wouldn't be so focus intent that it requires full concentration, least I focus more on the activity than on Nova. I feel that involving him in an activity that isn't specifically Tulpa related would really help build him enough for us to take some steps into imposition. The success some people here are achieving is good to see.
