M'kay, so i was reading clair's blog thing and she said that she can block out TOG's pain.

So.

Every one willing to partake will

1. Inflict pain on them self. nothing horrible (for god's sake no amputations) but make it significant.

2. Ask there tulpa to block it out.

3. Post results.

For Science!

Like I said on the blog, yeah, pain blocks. I sometimes get neck and back pain; Clair's getting pretty good at clearing that up.

That's really interesting. So does this only work on a slight amount of pain or can it work on extremely painful injuries?

I think that there is a limit to how much she can block, but minor pain is just fine.

Also congratulations on taking the red pill; I promise that you won't be disappointed.

I see. As soon as my tulpa is finished, I'm going to try that out whenever I unintentionally hurt myself. I may never have to buy pain medications like Tylenol ever again.

Thanks. I think my avatar really represents the spirit of this board.

I'd say it works, but no tulpa required to do it. (However I'd never have discovered it if I weren't working on one...)

When I was fairly early in narration, I read a blog entry about a tulpa curing a headache. A couple days later, I had an obvious sinus headache (caused by pressure in my sinuses due to allergies). I made a random comment to Lyra that I'd heard of tulpae curing headaches, but that even if she were fully sentient, there probably isn't much she could do about this one, because it has a definite physiological cause -- extremely stuffy nose -- and tulpae can't affect physical things. A couple seconds later, the headache faded; not all the way gone but greatly reduced.

This seemed really promising, but I didn't want to rely on her for it because she hadn't even shown any definite signs of sentience yet. So I started trying to see if I could do it myself. As of now, a few weeks later, I can pretty reliably turn *off* the pain of a headache by moving my mental focus to the area that hurts. I've tried it on muscle aches and those sharp pains you sometimes get from crappy posture. It works somewhat, but not nearly as well; I think I just need more practice -- almost all of what I've done with it has been with headaches.

As a random test, I very briefly tried it on touch and sound, with absolutely zero effect. I *appear* to be able to make a small ever-so-faint blob of gray noise appear on my field of vision, though I may just be concentrating on and seeing the ever-present visual noise that usually gets filtered out.

My blog :: Time expectations are bad (forcing time targets are good though)

This topic is one of the things I intend to research when I put together my study. Hypothetically, stimuli can be simulated via tulpae; I want to see how much of a two-way street it can be by seeing what stimuli can be stifled or ignored altogether.

We don't get much in life. But we do have this.

You can do the ignoring of pain easily enough without a tulpa so I'm sure that you can do this as well, I usually have Alice get the back aches out of me so I know it works, as for the amount... Well a large amount of pain can only be blocked for so long.

  • 3 weeks later...

This is slightly off topic, but has anyone been able to use a tulpa to negate a hangover?

I have. Or at least the effects. Drinking water surely aided in eliminating it, but Clair did her part.
