Rinnigan February 15, 2013 February 15, 2013 I've read up on forcing and all the visualization practices as well as the personality practices. However, my tulpa is an imaginary friend that already has a very defined appearance and personality. I know you can never truly be done with personality but I've got a pretty solid base down. My question is, what exactly do I force now? I have a wonderland and I don't really know that that plays into the development of my tulpa...I'm just a mega newbie and any answers would be greatly appreciated!
White Coyote February 15, 2013 February 15, 2013 I'm a newbie too... What I did is just narrate and talk to my tulpa all the time. Then because she couldn't move on her own, I'd parrot her in my wonderland to have adventures, picnics or whatever and visualise her at the same time. At some point, I noticed Dashie doing things on her own, scaring me all the time maybe try to prove her sentience to me.
Guest kingfisher February 15, 2013 February 15, 2013 Welp, giving them energy is one thing. Basically, anything you do that acknowledges their existence gives them energy. Forcing is one way of giving energy to your tulpa, and it's also the strongest, most dependable way, I presume. The only cases are: it takes lots of focus, it drains a lot of energy, and it takes lots of time. But, those are just the little things you call "sacrifice", so if you really don't feel like forcing at all during the whole duration of tulpamancy, it would be really hard to make any progress. Forcing is cool. Onwards! You could start forcing by simply familiarizing yourself with your tulpa-- like how you "get to know" new friends. You form their appearance, their significant features (like beauty marks, dimples, eye color, etc.), their behavior, their way of speech (how they choose their words), their accent, their mannerisms/habits, their personality, their temperament, etc. With all that considered, you should also know how all those things combine to define the entirety of your tulpa's existence, "soul", "sentience", or whatever you want to call it. Sentience-building is also one thing you'd want to do while forcing. You could call it the "freedom" stage. It's where you give your tulpa enough energy to make them able to practice free will. Strengthening your confidence in your tulpa's existence is one thing. Another is narrating to your tulpa. Also, you can simply let them do their thing and ask them to do something random enough to surprise you. You could also try visualizing yourself "literally" giving energy, like seeing yourself "transfer" your energy into your tulpa. It's simply giving energy, but in a way that the energy you give them can be manipulated by them, and not by you, after you give it to them. Good luck, dudes

Knapp February 15, 2013 February 15, 2013 Yes, >energy indeed. Narration is good. They survive off your attention, so talk to him/her. Lurk before you post, use the search function, read guides, read the FAQ. NeonKnights February 15, 2013 February 15, 2013 You could also try visualizing yourself "literally" giving energy, like seeing yourself "transfer" your energy into your tulpa. It's simply giving energy, but in a way that the energy you give them can be manipulated by them, and not by you, after you give it to them. Back in the beginning, I tried the quoted part above after seeing it suggested, and I had a bizarre experience. My tulpa didn't seem to like it when I directly transferred energy to her like that. Then again, that could just be because I'm a masochist and was destroying myself by working to exhaustion and beyond in my efforts to develop her (who am I kidding? I still am), and perhaps she was trying to save me from myself by insisting that I stop doing that. Or it was doing nothing and she was telling me to stop being a moron. Come to think of it, that was one of the first signs of sentience she gave me, so I guess it worked regardless. The attention part is also very important. If/when you can't force, narrate, narrate, and narrate some more. Talk to them whenever you can, in your head or aloud, about anything. So long as you feel that you're talking to them, you're doing it right. As for the wonderland, it doesn't have to play into your tulpa's development if you don't want it to. There are a lot of users on here who never used a wonderland at all, so don't feel obligated to use your wonderland if you don't see a purpose in it. If you do want to use it, though, you'll find that there's a thousand and one limitless number of ways in which you can use it. It's more or less up to your (and your tulpa's) imagination how you use it. Echoing the sentiment of Knapp's words, lurking and searching is your best friend here, and will likely answer most of the questions that pop up. Thank you drive thru. Rinnigan February 15, 2013 Author February 15, 2013 Wow, thank you guys for all your help! I will make sure to give my tulpa a lot of energy and narrate to him as much as possible! Once again, thanks!
Sands February 15, 2013 February 15, 2013 I did not like being fed "energy". At one point Sands wished to see if it helped, as symbolism can be strong and help a lot. It hurt, though, so I didn't like it. How I see it is that you are just trying to fool your mind into thinking there are two, so there will be. Belief has been shown to be rather powerful, placebo effect for example. Attention you give to your tulpa feeds the delusion which will become the reality. At some point giving attention should not be needed, as your tulpa no longer should be weak enough to require constant attention and the process is "complete", so to say. NeonKnights February 15, 2013 February 15, 2013 That was my initial thought when told to stop doing that, like the raw energy was giving her a painful shock or something to that effect. Perhaps my guess wasn't too far off the mark. I suppose that means I can still feel bad about it, then, and offer her more apologies. :( "You've got to believe to achieve." -Hank Hill
Nobillis February 16, 2013 February 16, 2013 Energy sounds a bit metaphysical. Yes, it does, but it is just a metaphor (visualizing symbol) for allocating resources in the brain to your tulpa. I'll give an example from my life (and see if it is of use). My Watchdog-3 tulpa basically resides in the subconscious. If you accept the parallel-processing model of human thought (there is some evidence to support this) the brain can concentrate on two things at once. If one of those thing is your tulpa, then she will have autonomy and be able to act on her own. I've spoken with a fair number of young tulpas. Many of them tell me that when their host is not thinking of them they go into a kind of "back seat" status, just waiting to be noticed. To quote one, she said "It's like I'm 'piggy-backed' on my host's consciousness". The ones who I can report do not stop, whom are autonomous from their host's concentration, are either older or have a background "tasK" (or process) in the host's brain which supports them directly (without the host having to concentrate on the tulpa). In the case of my Nobillis (tulpa), she is autonomous due to the constant thought which Watchdog 3 directs towards maintaining her existence. Since Watchdog 3 is largely subconscious, I (and my host) am unaware of any effort in keeping Nobillis active. And since she is autonomous - she can create anything she wants or needs in wonderland just by imagining it into being. Similarly she can access and read the memories of books (or films) to learn or be entertained - the supply from the subconscious seems more direct then I can access myself. I don't know if this helps, confuses, or scares. But I hope it is helpful. Be well, - Nobillis and Kerin. Please consider supporting Tulpa.info.
