Firstly, good luck with your tulpa creation.

 

Imposition, for us, was once very much more developed than it is now. I can however answer this question from the point of view of the experience that we have. Others may well have different experiences. Anecdotes are like that.

 

When it works, my tulpas look solid. The are opaque, not transparent, unless they choose to take a transparent form for some reason. Maya is the only one of them who really has the tendency to play with her form much, so she is the only one likely to try that. They look opaque, but I am still able to look at whatever is behind them if I choose to focus my attention on it.

 

When it doesn't work, they are not visible when I look directly at them. So they are never really transparent if they intend to look opaque, but I can still look at what is behind them anyway if I choose to and when imposition malfunctions they are just not "visible", rather than being transparent. Even then I can still visualise them in as much detail as I like, as normal.

 

As I said, I can only speak from my own experience. I am sure that others will have different experiences.
