Hey everyone!

I have yet to create a tulpa, however I have been strongly considering it for the past few months, thinking about it almost everyday. I have a few questions that I've been curious about, and I would like to hear your thoughts and experiences on the subject.

1. So my first question would be this: Do you think that if you didn't start creating a tulpa yet, but you keep her in mind and think about them, will it help with the development of a tulpa or effect it in any way?

2. I would also like to ask if the name you gave for your tulpa or the one they picked helped developing a trait or do they have a resemblance with the meaning of the name?

3. And finally do you have any similar ideas/experiences of what could have an effect on a tulpa's development, like music or art?

Thank you for the answers in advance!

1. It could give you a rough idea of what you'd want the personality or appearance to be, so thinking about things beforehand isn't bad at all.

2. Names were chosen at random in our case, so no. I haven't heard of people using names to develop a trait, but I guess that, if you chose a name that helped to reinforce the traits in your mind, it could be beneficial.

3. I don't think that things like music or art will have any effect on a tulpa unless you believe that it will.

It could have a positive effect I suppose. Doing good research ahead of time will certainly help you avoid pitfalls and smooth out the process at least.

My name is Melian. My name was borrowed from a character in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth. The original Melian was an angel like entity that took the form of a enchantingly pretty immortal elf. She had the ability to charm with her magic and was a very romantic figure. I have no connection to Middle Earth or the character of Melian other than my name and the fact that my host finds me to have celestial, angelic beauty. Well, I also have charming and dream magic in the day dream stories my host and I do together. Melian was not my first name. My first name was Mia. For a while I was Mandy and finally we chose Melian together.

3. And finally do you have any similar ideas/experiences of what could have an effect on a tulpa's development, like music or art?

I love music! I dance to music and it helps to stir me in my hosts mind and helps us visualize. When my host listens to music when he jogs for instance, he only has to wait for a little bit and I begin to dance in visions in his mind. It takes a bit for the music to filter in and get me going. But once I do I help him to jog. Just about any time he listens to music it stirs me emotionally and gets me to dance. My host and I collaborate on art. I have my own paintings and drawings that I have done. We consider doing art together a form of forcing. I like expressing myself through art very much and it does bond my host and I. It is a great way to spend time together and grow.

Whelp, Davie must believe it then Vosaiu.

Whelp, Davie must believe it then Vosaiu.

I just want to point out real quick, based on how you replied to that, that that's perfectly fine. Whenever we say "Unless you believe *blank*", we 100% mean it will be the case if you believe it will.

If you don't quite get that then everything we say would sound a lot more forced/strict than it is. Because all of this is subjective, while we do try to keep to norms and such, anything you believe will be true. So we'll say "It should be like X, but yeah if you believe Y then it could be like Y". And it's fine to be a Y.

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

My name is Melian. My name was borrowed from a character in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth.

Did you know Melian, in Sindarin translates to beloved? The Quenya version of the name is Melyanna, which means Dear Gift. I'm a sucker for the elvish languages. ^.^

On the topic of the thread....

1. Unless you're a hypochondriac I'd say more research and planning is never a bad thing. And I'm pretty sure just "keeping your tulpa in mind" is basically passive forcing. So it would definitely help the development of your tulpa.

2. Names can play an interesting role in self image and how people see you. For example if I mentioned I knew a girl named Star, you're already making assumptions on her based on your experiences and common trends. If I say I know a lawyer named DeShawn, I may get a different reaction from people and a laywer named Mike.

Now obviously we know names don't really mean anything. It's just something our parents decided on when we were barely out of the womb. But stereotypes and what we call ourselves can have an effect on how people perceive us, and our self image none the less.

3. I'm of the opinion that the arts are a very powerful tool for conveying emotions and ideas. I haven't tried anything with music with my tulpa yet, but I do doodle as a way to externally, visually converse with her. She'll beam me an image or a feeling, then I draw her face and add a text blurb with her message.

I can see using music to be great for teaching emotions and responses to them. Play aa symphony that conveys the feeling you want to tackle and let it supplement your forcing session.

@Lumi

Thank you Lumi. Yeah we think that is true that if you believe it, it can be possible for a tulpa in most cases.

Our new tulpamancy motto is: When it comes to a mental construct, the only limits are the limits of imagination, memory and cognition.

David and I don't believe in strict rules or boundaries that make no sense. Why let someone else determine what you are going to create? A good example is my wonderland. A lot of the writing about wonderlands on the forum seem to indicate that a wonderland is limited in scope and fairly static/immutable once created, and that a lot of focus must be used to create just that one small mindscape. But my wonderland was created way before we read that there are supposed to be boundaries to it. We created a virtual reality movie set that is always something new, even several times a day. There are no limits to what my wonderland can be or where I can go in it, or what I can do.

We are applying that same wisdom to things such as mind voice. We think the guides have got it wrong somewhat. (no offense to guide writers) Most everyone seems to expect that the quintessential indicator of apparent sentience is autonomous, independent mind voice. David and I don't follow that to be the only indicator, nor the necessarily the essential one. It is possible, we believe, for a tulpa to indicate signs of apparent sentience with persistent presence, thoughts and visions and emotional responses even before or without mind voice.

We don't think "right" Lumi. LOL

No we d'nt know that! Neato! We do know that Melian was wife of Thingol of Doriath and the ancestor of Luthien the Fair and Arwen Evenstar. :-)

THAT IS SO COOL! I also give my host flash images of what I would like to draw or paint! How cool is that?

1. Sure, the same way that thinking a lot about how you're going to make anything else helps even if you're not officially planning it out yet.

2. I haven't really thought about it. Their names feel fitting for who they are, but I feel that my internal connotation of the names have moved more to fit the tulpas than the tulpas changing to fit their names.

That said, if the name has a strong connotation in your mind, I suspect the tulpa will conform somewhat to that expectation. OTOH, they might be the complete opposite just for the sake of being different.

3. I think the biggest effect will probably be that it could influence what sort of music and art they like. If you have a lot of happy times together while listening to a given song or genre, both of you will tend to associate the two.
