Hello forum. I am thinking of making my first tulpa soon. I am hoping to make a Fluttershy, but only give her some traits of the show's character and explain to her she is different, as I've seen a lot of people do this. I do have one question though. Will making one affect my mental health. I don't want it to turn into Tyler Durden and control me, or end up in a mental hospital.

Starting my very first tulpa. It's Fluttershy. Will update progress as it comes.

No. They cannot physically harm you, nor can they possess you without your consent.

I guess they could harm you mentally, but only if you really, really wanted them to.

As for sanity, you'll find that the vast majority of people on here are sane. Having a tulpa does not mean otherwise (though other people might see you talking to yourself ALOT as a sign of alarm, lol)

Thanks, even though you're not supposed to make characters, is it safe if they are not an EXACT copy of that said character?

Except for Glitch.

Anyway, DarkSkyz, think of it this way. If you make a tulpa that's based on an existing character - even loosely - and it knows it, don't you think it might feel a little insulted? That you might expect something out of it that it's not?

A tulpa is its own being. I think they'd appreciate having the freedom to grow without having to worry about living up to a particular ideation that existed before you even made them.

Lucid is the most crazed man here.

And you can make a character. Just have no expectations and love them no matter what.

Welcome Darkskyz!

First of all, it is very important to not have any expectations of your Tulpa. Give your Tulpa her form, give her her personality and leave the final choice to her. Don't push her towards your wishes, since it might lead to an identity crisis. I believe a Tulpa has to find itself just like a teenager has to during puberty. A teenager that feels treated unfairly will most likely become rebellious.

If you have a predisposition towards a mental illness, there could be a certain risk that a Tulpa could trigger it. Happened to me. It wasn't nice, but we made it in the end. It's highly unlikely that it will happen to you, but saying a Tulpa is perfectly safe would be a lie.

I'm fairly certain that almost everyone on this site is fucked up in one way or another, whether they are aware of it or not.

EDIT: by society's standards anyways at least

Society, man!
