How did the term "forcing" come about?

The people who founded tulpamancy were weird. They probably thought of it like "forcing a being into existence with willpower" or something to that effect. We smoothed out the crazy developed more logical perspectives over time.

Well yeah, some people who coined some of the terms were weird. In case you haven't noticed, a lot of our terms are creepy as hell.

 

So you force your tulpa, that makes you their host, and then you can learn to have them possess your body.

 

Anyway "force" is short for "tulpaforce", which is ... yeah, I don't know either. People always found it weird, let me show you some people:

It's called tulpaforcing because you force your mind to adopt the tulpa. I guess crafting and forging a tulpa sounded too dead for people.

Tulpaforce is just a really stupid word for "working on" your tulpa.

 

Yeah, it's kinda weird.

It would be interesting to know where this term first popped up and what exactly it was supposed to describe. But the early history of modern tulpamancy is probably lost in the depths of the internet.

Still such weird terms are not uncommon. New words pop up all the time, or old ones gain a new meaning.

Nearly every profession and community uses strange words for specific features and often no one knows how and why they came into use.

Even in modern science weird terms are used to describe previously nameless phenomena, often derived from insider jokes or just some spontaneous nonsense someone made up after too many beers and severe lack of sleep.

I'm not exactly sure where it came from, but I remember it being around when we were still browsing the 4chan boards before this website was a thing. I know that a lot of people dislike this word, but I think that it works just fine for what it is - forcing your tulpa into existence. But yeah, this community is full of weird folk who like to make up weird terms.

I've thought more about this. Yeah, I can't find an /x/ archive that goes back further than 2013. /mlp/ is archived from Feb 2012 though, and there are lots of gems to look around. It looks like the term "tulpaforce" didn't come into use until March, so, maybe it's there somewhere. I'd need to ask people who were around in the IRC around then I guess. There's one blog which is just named "Tulpaforce", which as far as I can see just about predates the use of the term on /mlp/. So there's that. You see variants of "force" being used sometimes, like here, talking about "enforcing" hallucinations. And you see things like

tulpa will only have an identity crises if you try to force the personality of the respective mane6 into the tulpa

Which you might construe as "personality forcing", but that's the colloquial usage of "force", there. I need to ask around a bit more.

So even back in May of 2012 they were wondering about the term "tulpaforcing." Oh yesh, forcing...

 

Mistgod opened his first days on Tulpa Info in 2015 by declaring all a pseudo science and proto religion and that all were deceived because tulpas are only illusions in the mind. One of my first posts was to declare the word "host" stupid and how no one should use it anymore.

 

We expected to be taken seriously and get results.
