It was brought to my attention that anti-psychotic medications may affect the creation of a tulpa, and this has me really worried. I take Risperdal in order to help prevent me from experiencing sensory overload and falling into a panic attack. Usually when I get a panic attack I break down crying, and start shaking really bad. The Risperdal helps with that, by making me far less sensitive to stimulation and noises, and generally mellowing my mood out.

I want to clarify, I don't take Risperdal for schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, or anything like that. I only take this for my panic attacks, I don't hear voices or try to escape reality. I am really worried about posting this, as I don't want to somehow fill the stereotype of having a mental illness while trying to make a tulpa. I'm not somehow less of a person because I struggle with a mental illness. I don't struggle with loneliness or attempting to escape reality, I have developed healthy ways of coping with things.

That said, is there a chance my anti-psychotic medication will make it harder for me to work on Bailey? Does anyone know how this will affect my progress? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Mood balancing drugs have unpredictable effects on plurals, and this includes tulpas. The effects can include: communication loss, uncontrollable switching (non-issue for young tulpa), extreme tiredness, and nothing at all. Anti-halluicnogens can interfere with projection and forcing as well.

There is no safe way to guess what influence drugs can have on a plural. It is more complicated than with singlet persons. It is rare for everyone in a system to respond the same way to the same drug.

So is Risperdal a mood balancing drug and anti-hallucinogen?

I'm assuming this will make it harder to force, I hope I can still do this. I contemplated trying out not taking it for a short period of time, but I think that's a really bad idea, so I'm not going to do that.

EDIT: Will an anti-depressant like Celexa affect tulpa development?

I don't think it is a mood balancing drug, as it is prescribed alongside mood balancers for bipolar. Similarly, since it doesn't get prescribed for hallucination outside those caused by psychosis, I don't think it works directly on hallucinations.

The advice above is for all medications and drugs.

Anti-depressants occasionally have nasty side effects. For every new person you roll the dice for getting side-effects again. Same advice.

Hum, at least there isn't any certainty that it will make this difficult. So, I'll just assume that it isn't going to affect Bailey, since if I do think it will affect her, it definitely will.

We are not doctors, so consult your prescribing authority as to why you take this drug and how it works to assist. I think your apothecary may also provide an explanation the next time you go to pick up your medication. I do know that Risperdal is said to make your boobs bigger, so there's that to look forward to.

I take a daily medication, and it hasn't affected my tulpa in any noticeable ways - yet like very many things relevant to tulpas, your mileage will certainly vary.

well since we can't tell you how it'll affect you specifically, I'll say that generally stuff like this has no effect on tulpas, and when it does it just makes communication slightly(or moderately) harder, temporarily. The people I've seen say it cancelled out all contact with their "tulpas"... seemed like they were genuinely schizophrenic, so.

Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points.

I think being happy and having fun makes life worth living, so spreading happiness is my number one goal!

I know that I take the Risperdal to reduce irritability and keep me from experiencing sensory overload. As far as I know, it mellows out my reactions to sensory stimulation. I will ask my psychiatrist again next time I see her though.

I've been on Risperdal for several years now, so I guess temporary effects won't really be an issue since it has been in my system for a really long time now.

So, I guess I'll just assume it isn't affecting Bailey's development, since it doesn't really seem like an issue I need to be worried about.

If you are still able to communicate with her, then any skills you obtain during the medication will still develop, and may seemingly "jump" if you go off the medication.

I am a little worried, because the internet tells me risperidone has demininishing effectiveness over time and a few serious side effects from long term use. ... I think I'll just stop talking now, before I embarras myself.

Anti-psychotics will kill anyone with long enough use. I know plenty of people with Schizoaffective Disorder/Schizophrenia (they CAN be used interchangeably - yours truly being one myself) who have gotten really fucked up from long term use. They work well for what they're intended to do but yeah... things can get a little too messed up when on them. As far as messing with your Tulpa, I couldn't exactly say. I was on my medication back in 2014 when I was starting on Skye and I got to the point of communicating with head pressure and her creation wasn't going too badly. Granted I didn't force with her a lot didn't help. Since I've been off my meds and my symptoms fairly minimal minus my bad days I don't see too much of a difference between then and now.

I'd contact your doctors and ask how they might affect you.
