solarchariot June 8, 2017 June 8, 2017 Perhaps finances should be managed by the system's most responsible member. I do agree with Lucilyn's assessment, and fully endorse 'we share everything.' Regardless of which paradigm, science or metaphysical, the well being of all involved requires a healthy body, which means prioritizing diet and residential stability, which means financial responsibility. (I assume this question would not have gone forwards if the host/front is wealthy, but most of us aren't and we have to decide and priortize. (And I am not picking on anyone cause I have not always been frugal or wise with money.) That said, I have been wondering about 'ownership' in general. Is it still my body? I belong to a system now. We have not practiced switching, but there is a dialogue about it. Again, science or metaphysic, I as individual can't say I own my body. Atoms come and go daily. Cells die. New cells are born. I am host to my own flora and fauna, which is symbiotic relationship. (So, technically, I have always been part of a system, brain, heart, liver, kidneyes, lungs... Like pokemon, you got to have 'em all.) I do well when they do well, and they do well when I do well. If Loxy says, don't eat that donut, it's a valid request. Even if she doesn't benefit from the sugar rush, she does experience the consequences of donut, even if it's just listening to me lament, why didn't I stop at one. (And she reminds me not to blame coworkers for bring donuts to work. I should know better than to visit the employee lounge.) so, I think the question is boiling down to stewardship. I assume tulpas are generally rational, hopefully as rational as the host, and there can be agreement on how things should be spent. But if not, that leads me to one last question on this point... In the 'wonderland,' no one lacks for anything. Literally, Star Trek replicator type tech, 3d printers, and magical host: anything needed can be attained. Who needs money?
Lucilyn June 8, 2017 June 8, 2017 since there's no law or government for tulpas, just the people themselves, there's no need for strict rules and everyone makes up their own in the end. If you asked who owned our body I would say Lumi, like, I fronted for over a month straight not too long ago and was obviously responsible for it and made whatever little decisions there were to make, but I wouldn't call it my body. I guess I would like you say "My house" even though it's your parents', for example. It's the body I'm a part of and my entire existence is inside of it so it can only be so not-mine. But Lumi lived almost his whole dang life without me here first, and a long time before the other three showed up too. So, idk, just seems right to call it his body. No matter how much claim we might end up staking in his/our life, it'll always be "his" body when it comes to technical ownership. But that won't usually come up, because first and foremost it's our "house"! and with money and everything else that involves us all, the rules will always be how we feel about it and what conclusion we come to together. Since the "rules" are a per-system thing and not a law there's no need to be all specific or try to fit everyone. But like we said earlier in the thread, it could be interesting just to see how everyones' rules differ! Like we aren't too different from most of you guys, but we do consider it "Lumi's body" in some way, so that's interesting right? Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points. I think being happy and having fun makes life worth living, so spreading happiness is my number one goal! Talk to us? https://community.tulpa.info/thread-ask-lumi-s-tulpas
Stevie June 8, 2017 June 8, 2017 As far as finances go I figure that I'm the one doing the work and being forced to experience going to my job every night and anything Chris wants to buy is tied up in something unpleasant that he doesn't necessarily have to be around for. He picks out media sometimes and has an input on things that affect our surroundings (i.e. decorative shit, furniture) but that's the furthest that we agree is necessary for him to go given that he's not the one making the money. We're all gonna make it brah.
Heckhound June 8, 2017 June 8, 2017 As a general rule, I believe that tulpas have the right to ask for things that they want. They should have the right to have desires, and to interact with the physical world. Sometimes this may involve purchasing something. I believe that, if you're able, you should encourage this. In our case, I don't have a lot of money to spend outside of necessities like rent and bills. But I keep a mental log of things he has expressed interest in, and don't mind putting money towards that when I have it. If it came down to buying something he wanted over something I wanted, I would most likely choose what he wanted simply because I want to enrich his life in any way that I can. Again, I realize not everyone going to be able to do even that, there are exceptions to everything, etc etc. pr // discord: Heckhound#6112
FallFamily June 11, 2017 June 11, 2017 [ice] Well, big financial decisions are made as a group of all people who regularly control the body, with input from those who don't if they have any to provide (decisions don't directly impact them as much at the present as the rest, but they could in the future and there is the system's reputation as a whole we have to keep which does affect them some). I would say that overall, Tri takes the lead with financial decisions here since they are careful and they have a very good instinct for how the rest of us think (and with me, they can kind of run things through my wiring to get my approximate answer) while also being careful to consult with the rest of us except in emergency situations where there is no time (and there, they seem to have good instincts). I'm not as good at finances as they are overall, though I am better at making projections in the future given a particular financial plan (I contribute through that). so, I think the question is boiling down to stewardship. I assume tulpas are generally rational, hopefully as rational as the host, and there can be agreement on how things should be spent. Pretty much agree. Stewardship is a good way to put it. But if not, that leads me to one last question on this point... In the 'wonderland,' no one lacks for anything. Literally, Star Trek replicator type tech, 3d printers, and magical host: anything needed can be attained. Who needs money? Depends on the wonderland. In one of ours, that is not the case. But it is on the paracosm side of things, so that is a bit of a different regime. Tri actually had to quit their job there and find a new one (they actually managed to get the one they were hoping for last week) to continue paying the bills for living there part time.
