Luminesce April 21, 2015 April 21, 2015 I should clarify that I don't hate everything the fanbase creates, or any single specific creation such as mods in minecraft. I hate that it's become such a large community of creators, because the basis of their inspiration is distorted and generally inappropriate for the type of attention it receives. Similarly to My Little Pony, FNAF is receiving so much attention from so many people (including creators) that it's become something else. But whereas MLP was kind of meant to be a little open community-wise (like leaving stuff to the imagination of a child), FNAF is a small series with very established character roles, lore, and genre. Which isn't to say MLP doesn't overextend its appropriate uses from time to time, FNAF is nothing but that. A song about the lore is fine, a Gmod mod adaptation of the game is fine.. But when it starts turning into fanfics and removing the characters from their established roles and lore, it's too much. Which has absolutely nothing to do with the games themselves. And it doesn't even necessarily put specific blame on any content creators - the Let's Players for sparking their popularity, or the modders for making game modes on them. But collectively it's just been perverted beyond recognition, and that's what I don't like. Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn. Everyone deserves to love and be loved. conflictedebola April 21, 2015 April 21, 2015 No offense to the opinions of anyone who posted in this thread but I literally don't understand why people hate something as soon as it gets popular? Isn't that a creator's goal? "Because the fanbase is terrible!" I'm guessing. I hate to be the bearer of bad news; everything has a bad fanbase. That's what happens when something has any sort of following. Human nature is defined by variety. Obviously when a bunch of people get together and like something, there's gonna be bad apples. It happens with EVERYTHING. I don't think anyone can name ONE fanbase that doesn't have terrible and/or annoying people in it. I'm sorry, I just don't understand what people's obsession with hating mainstream stuff is I really don't. It sounds really irritating and tiring and illogical. Why would you put any of your energy into going out of your way to hate something people enjoy? What does that say about you as a person. A lot of it sounds like elitism to me. (I sound super grumpy but people who talk non-stop about 'TODAY'S GENERATION IS DOOMED' and 'SOMETHING SOMETHIGN KIM KARdASHIAN IS A WITCH BURN HER' are infinitely more annoying than people who talk about mainstream things leisurely.) For the record, I've never played FNaF, the only thing I know about it is what I've seen from the internet. But then again, I'm a weenie when it comes to jump scare-ish games. And Howl's too creeped out about killer robot animals (more-so emphasis on robot), so WE'LL SEE HOW THIS GOES. If I could, begin to be, Half of what you think of me, I could do about anything, I could even learn how to love directed at Howl directed from Howl
NekoiNemo April 21, 2015 April 21, 2015 You seem to be missing one very important point - people usually don't hate the thing itself, they hate the fandom surrounding it. Well, there are obviously exceptions, but it's generally so. Like i said earlier, i quite like FNaF games, but i must agree with everyone else here that FNaF community is just plain weird. To be frank, i think that things that community creates are far more disturbing and perverse than the game itself (and we're talking about a game where you're haunted by horrific animatronics possessed by the spirits of innocent children who were murdered and whose mutilated corpses were stuffed inside said animatronics). And if you're not convinced - just try googling the name of any MLP or FNaF character with "safe search" turned off and see for yourself why people hate fandoms that push it way too far. Image of hyper-pregnant fat Chica having an orgy with other animatronics is still haunts me more than any horror piece ever could. 現実に抗え!
Luminesce April 21, 2015 April 21, 2015 Reisen: (I just happen to be here right now >.>) We're being pretty fair I think, but I understand where the rant comes from. You've seen a lot of people hate things unreasonably due to stereotypes. I liked this though: I should clarify that I don't hate everything the fanbase creates, or any single specific creation such as mods in minecraft. ... has absolutely nothing to do with the games themselves. And it doesn't even necessarily put specific blame on any content creators - the Let's Players for sparking their popularity, or the modders for making game modes on them. But collectively it's just been perverted beyond recognition, and that's what I don't like. We aren't those people who post "gtfo ponyf*g" in Youtube comments, I think we're pretty level-headed here. We're only stating our opinions because we were asked about them, I think. In my host's case, disliking the fandom is a unique case with FNAF. He accepts the often-hated fandoms like bronies and homestuck..ians, because they're just expressing themselves through content they like. He dislikes FNAF's in particular because they're using an inappropriate medium to do so, and distorting the purpose of the original in the process. Particularly I think the humanizing of the animatronics bugs him. If the fandom were mostly people making mods, parodies, fan-games, and even fanfics relating to the lore, he'd be fine with it. But turning it into something it's not is the problem. But again, I understand the defensiveness! Whether or not you're part of any of the fandoms, it certainly gets old seeing people get hated for simply associating with a fandom, when there's nothing wrong with them doing so. Just, in this case there's a bit more to it than in previous examples. Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn. Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature. bunny-boi-lover April 21, 2015 Author April 21, 2015 Interesting how intense this discussion has become, but I like it! It's great to get into debates to get to really know people in this community. :D I admit to being a hipster. I almost exclusively play vintage video games, and I usually get interested in something months or even years after its release. I only call myself a hipster because others call me that, and pretty much every description I've seen of a hipster fits me (I even wear thick-rimmed Woody Allen style glasses). But getting into FNaF has helped me to ease up on throwing on my hipster stubbornness hat and not even giving mainstream things a chance. It's opened me up to other things like watching Markiplier's YouTube channel, along with other Let's Players (I had my own Let's Play channel for a few weeks but recently shut it down with everything else I had online following a mental reset). It all started with me wanting to listen to some creepypastas. The first one that came up on YouTube was the Chuck E. Cheese's one. From there I decided to say f*ck it and looked up Five Nights at Freddy's to see what it was all about. I had avoided it like the plague before then because I viewed it as unoriginal and getting far more attention than it deserved. Jump scares have almost zero effect on me, and while animatronics are creepy they're not scary to me. I didn't know about the lore aspect of the series. Of course, the first thing that came up was Markiplier's play of it. I'd never watched Markiplier before. He was also far too mainstream for me. I thought that his reactions were exaggerated and that he was superficial. But an acquaintance of mine had told me he was actually really genuine and that he did a lot of work raising money for charities with his channel. So...I instantly became a Markiplier fangirl. Not gonna lie, Edwin's design is slightly inspired by my unrequited love for Mark. In fact, when I first showed my best friend my drawing of Edwin, she said, "A mixture of Markiplier and Bonnie. Why am I not surprised?" Honestly, the bunny aspects of Edwin came out of the blue. I have a soft spot for Bonnie because of a FNaF fanfic I wrote (relatively close to canon, not one of those X readers or anything ridiculous like that), but I wasn't thinking about him when I designed Edwin. But his faux-hawk...yeah...stolen from Markiplier. But I think Edwin pulls it off better. :P "Jesus Pickles!" ~ Edwin reacting to pretty much every jump scare in a horror movie Avatar was made by me using a base. ItsSwissmas April 21, 2015 April 21, 2015 By the way, what is everyone's opinions on there being a movie? What do you MEAN you don't agree with me? Do you know who you're dealing with!? *Mashes button* *Quarter of the world explodes*
Brassow April 21, 2015 April 21, 2015 Personally, I might watch it, but I doubt it will be very good. "Try to get a better understanding of things before making your judgement." -Khan, Metro 2033
bunny-boi-lover April 22, 2015 Author April 22, 2015 I'm cautiously optimistic about it with the feeling that it's going to be a separate canon from the games. At the very least it will probably be a retelling or re-imagining. Think of Maleficent as compared to Sleeping Beauty - similarities in characters, setting, and some plot, but a totally different story. From what I hear, they'll be working directly with Scott for the story, so it can't be bad. But I'm not going to set myself up for the agony that Beowulf caused me. (I was an English major and was literally so angry at how they butchered the original story that I broke down crying hot tears after seeing it. It wouldn't have been so bad if they had named it something a little different instead of trying to pass it as the original, especially for those who have never read it.) NekoiNemo April 22, 2015 April 22, 2015 I'm really skeptical about the movie. Mainly because i'm yet to see at least one at least acceptable video game to movie adaptation. 現実に抗え!
