Hi, I recently created by Tulpa, Gaelles whose form is that of a ten-foot tall, gold phoenix. While it has only been a few days (five to be exact) I've begun to wonder a few things... I know that other people have had a similar 'pace' in their Tulpa's development, like finding their Tulpa being able to speak on the second day! But my real question revolves around imposition.

I'm usually pretty adept at most forms of magick (Personally, I see Tulpamancy as a form of magick, not a psychological thing) and often can find decent results with anything I set my mind to. The problem is IF I set my mind to it. I have a hard time with focusing, and I know I'm not the only one. With my now entering the field of Tulpamancy, however, I saw the fruits of my 'natural ability' once again.

Seeing as my Tulpa is so unique in his appearance and size, I thought I'd try seeing him - getting a look at Gaelles with my own eyes. The weird thing is that I don't have the mental aptitude to focus on him for more than a couple minutes - much less a few hours! But when I don't focus hard on his form, I can still vaguely see him. He's not so clear that he stands out from physical distractions, but if I look for him sometimes I'll find him laying on someone's roof, or flying through the air. It's like I'm seeing him through a lens and I can only see him half way. I can see him making little movements like blinking or shaking his head as well as standing, sitting down, or flapping his wings in the air. But it's still all so blurry.

So on a scale of 1 to 10, how well do some of you guys see your Tulpa? Are they perfectly visible as though they're physically there? Or is it more along the lines of my experience where you can only sort of half-see them?

If it's the former, is it possible that his form will get clearer over time? Or do I simply need to spend more time focusing on its clearness (i.e meditating and forcing)?

If the world insists on changing you, it's only natural to insist on changing the world.

I've hardly done any forcing at all, so even though Fenchurch is almost two years old, I usually can't see her, or only a vague presence. So that's about where you'll be if you don't put work into it. If you do focus on forcing, you should be able to see him clearer over time. Several of our active users have achieved some degree of imposition, so I'm sure they'll be along shortly to give their perspectives.

As to why you can already somewhat see him without focusing on him, I think that's because of your interest in magick.

I'm sorta the opposite of you. I see magick as a psychological thing -- still very useful for doing things connected to psychology, but not really beyond that.

But anyway, magick often relies heavily on visualization, so your visualization "muscles" are probably already pretty well developed. I think that's part of the reason that this is coming so easily to you.

On a side note, I've been collecting books about tulpas and related subjects here. I recently found a guide to imposition in a book on magick written in the 50s. If you're interested, just search for "The Magician: His Training and Work" and click where it says "[HIDDEN]" right underneath that. And you might be interested in some of the other books on that page -- I highly recommend Magical Use of Thoughtforms.

That's a pretty valid point, one I can totally agree on! And I'm glad that we, despite our opposing beliefs, can still understand one another respectively. As for these sources, I'll surely look into them. knowledge is definately something I want to get my hands on. The broader and brighter the perspective, the better! Anyway, thanks again Sushi.

Moved to Q&A since Forum Questions and Comments is for questions related to the forum system itself. Since this is mostly about imposition I'm putting it in regular Q&A. If it goes more into the magickal view of things, it's going in Meta.

Personally I'm around 0 -- no imposition yet. I've heard from some people here who can see their tulpas as clearly and realistically as anything else they see.

Not sure about myself. I'm loathe to say 0 because in a lot of ways I can "see" Edwin when he's imposed, although it's not with my physical eyes. I don't see him like I see another person, but I sense him. It's like he constantly sends me signals so I can visualize what he's doing, his posture, his facial expressions, etc. I've been in a sort of bad mental state recently, so I haven't really focused on that level of imposition, though even before reading this thread I intended to start on that tonight.

I'm not all too concerned about "seeing" Edwin, as long as I know he's there. I'm always able to visualize him perfectly as though I really was seeing him. The proportions are correct (as far as I can tell), and his "physical" movements are fluid as though truly driven by muscle and bone.

Progress Report

It varies for me based on how much I've been practicing imposition lately. I never spent that much time on it, but for the few weeks where I was actively practicing, outlining my tulpas and practicing interacting with them, I'd say I got to a 5. Not mistakable for reality, but I got to the point where I wasn't focusing on stuff behind them anymore.

Since I never really practice, I'm probably a 2 right now. I'm effectively just imagining my current view and inserting them into it, which feels similar. It's not really imposition, but it serves its purpose as helping them feel close when I'm doing other stuff, like sitting at my desk.

At the peak of my ability, I would call the appearance of my tulpas "A transparent overlay on reality". They didn't physically block vision (not that I put in enough hours to get to that point, but I think I could've), but the sense of them being there was strong and they interacted with things quite well. One notable thing is that I had "vision" of them when they weren't fully in my vision, such as when they followed me through a door. But that's because the physical seeing part of imposition comes from first mentally seeing them, in your mental map of the area, then convincing your mind you're really seeing it.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.
