Guest July 4, 2015 July 4, 2015 Piracy is probably your best bet for figuring out whether or not you've got any kind of knack. If you wanna look at electronic of any kind, samples are all well and good, but outside of, probably drums and piano stuff, maybe some strings, you'd mostly be worrying about VST synths and shit. Stuff for EQ'ing, and mixing, etc. Which are less difficult to sort out. For learning, anyway. Mediocre sounds are fine for whoever, starting out, definitely. In the couple years I've off-and-on'd with electronic stuff, I've come to understand most everything I can about production through YouTube, trial-and-error, and outside help, but can't get my head around synth-design, which is kindof a deal breaker. Well, that and song-structure, but it's hard to get into that when I can't make stuff that doesn't sound like it came from a bootleg SNES-era Super Mario Bros game in any synth. I can make it decently far into stuff that's solely orchestral though, and it doesn't make my ears bleed, so maybe I'll look into that kinda stuff. If you can figure that shit out, I'd bet you could actually excel to some degree. Establishing a decent workflow to do all of that proficiently would most certainly help you with tracking guitar or whatever, down the line. Regarding my brother's stuff, I'll actually work scratch and add sounds his main producer can't figure out when I have time, and that works out pretty well. There's just a fundamental translatability between all music, so definitely take a look at electronic, or something in the area if you wanna pick up some skills for later. Idunno. Hell, I mean.. It would definitely be a viable career. Not as some sooperfamuss producer or whatever, which is never what I've gone for, but there's definitely demand for people who can work audio in the modern world. I like to look at smaller studios for shows I like, and follow producers who work for vidya game companies. Being able to do that for a living would be pretty cool I guess, soo maybe once I can get a computer up and running, and legally buy stuff, I'll set out to better learn things I don't understand. Yeah, might actually be easier to grasp if I have my own rig? That'd be nice, hate using the brother's. At the very least, there's always demand locally for people who know how to track shitty music.
sushi July 4, 2015 July 4, 2015 Idunno, rambling. I can't be the only one who feels this insignificant in every regard, can I? I think I'm just getting to that point where I'm realizing how shitty life is going to be up until I'm dead, don't mind me if you don't wanna. Dude, wait until you're turning 30 and still haven't accomplished anything. "Some things have to be believed to be seen." - Ralph Hodgson
Guest July 6, 2015 July 6, 2015 Haha, WOW, OKAY If I can't accomplish anything by 30, guess I'll just have to go for 40. We'll see how it pans out, huh. I burnt my thumb lighting a sparkler for my little brother on the 4th. That sucked. It was actually the same spot I sustained an unfortunate skillet-burn once, so now it's gonna be like, double-scarred. Sometimes I wonder how anyone still trusts me to do literally anything around here, I'm unbelievably accident-prone. Also am bored. Mostly just typing to pass the time. Was tuppering earlier, but my head is starting to hurt, so now I'm just occupying myself. I have a friend who just plays video games literally any time he's not working, or doing school stuff. I don't get it. I've put hundreds of hours into New Vegas alone, but that's over the course of.. Idunno, I think that's in about a year or so. Which could be better, but man, this guy wakes himself up early so he can put three or four hours into a game, then gets home and stays awake to the point where he only gets six hours of sleep, and the cycle repeats. It'd almost be admirable if I wasn't sure he's gonna die in like, fifteen years probably. Brother also finally got a car, at 21. Took long enough. Not a bad one either, though he'll be paying 11k for it in the long run. That'll be nice. Pretty good mileage, so we're actually going to be able to get out of the house when we need to. Be especially nice if he could help me get to a job further out than what we have here, which is sadly nothing right now, but he's got his own work to worry about. Sigh. Some day. Nothing else, right now. Maybe I can knock myself out to pass the time, here in a few. Nights are so boring, I hate having a messed up sleep-schedule.

That's not me, but I was playing Dungeon Keeper 2 at 1 in the morning last night, thinking "Why am I doing this? I'm so bored with this game." But I kept playing. I do stop playing games. But then I also play them long past the point where I stop enjoying them. "Some things have to be believed to be seen." - Ralph Hodgson
AlienLoveSecrets July 7, 2015 July 7, 2015 (A new challenger approaches!) I used to also do nothing but play video-games when I was younger, but whenever I for a crazy amount of time these days, it's usually to get my mind off of something, or relieve stress in GTA 5 by blocking a busy highway with a bus and blowing it up :). Also, awesome sig Enny! I Love Dream Theater, I've listened to them for as long as I can remember lol. I have lots of rare memorabilia. I was thinking of listening to Regression the next time I force. What do you think? Kiahdoj, as Enny said, keep up with that guitar! The advice I would you give is to not view practising the guitar as work: Make the guitar excite you. Make a large, overall goal for yourself that enthrals you, no matter how absurd or crazy it might seem to you. Examples can be anywhere from being able to play as well as *insert favourite guitar player here*, to just being able to play a few chords: whatever excites and satisfies you the most. Look at what you are practising, no matter what it might be, and don't think of it as work: look at it as another step toward your ultimate goal, and let it drive you to achieve it. Your practice sessions will improve tremendously if you keep that mind-frame. A lot of this is similar to , even though that deals more with the idea of success. You can still apply a lot of that video to practising, though. I hope this helps! Dracky July 7, 2015 July 7, 2015 Yeah when Bloodborne came out I played like 15 hours in the first day... And still never beat the stupid Bloodstarved Beast. XD I wanna see movies of my dreams.
sushi July 8, 2015 July 8, 2015 I'm just going to throw this out there: I really hate manipulative advertising. That's probably a big part of why I'm no longer active on Facebook. Every other post is "You won't believe the strange trick that has doctors furious!" Honestly, if these ads are to believed, doctors spend so much time furious that you'd swear med school was taught by Emperor Palpatine. So I saw one of those damn ads today. "You won't believe what we found in the 2015 penny!" I thought "Wait, they're not zinc anymore?" And against my better judgement, I clicked the link. Well, the article never said a damn thing about what pennies are made of these days. It was a political campaign. It took me half an hour of googling (most results were the same damn article) but I finally found my answer, and you won't believe what the 2015 penny is made out of! [Hidden]Zinc. Just like the 2014 penny, and every other damn penny all the way back to 1982. I want that half hour of my life back [/hidden] "Some things have to be believed to be seen." - Ralph Hodgson

This one's my favorite though: If you're going to make false ads, at least try. xD "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying; And this same flower that smiles today Tomorrow will be dying."
Dracky July 9, 2015 July 9, 2015 I hate the "Doctor shares this strange secret about type 2 diabetes!" ads that use this image (warning mild squick). Since that picture is allegedly of a kid who was forced to kneel on frozen peas as punishment, it obviously has nothing to do with diabeetus and it's also super crappy to use a picture of alleged child abuse as a stupid clickbait image. I wanna see movies of my dreams.
