HighPriest July 14, 2015 July 14, 2015 I know this is tulpa forums but I feel servitors are in the spectrum so I will share this here. This thread has and embarrassing and ackward premise so i apologize if that makes the reader uncomfortable. A terrible burden I bear is an addiction to pornography. I have deliberately been getting into some pretty mind melting shit that has really fucked me up. I have made the realization that this is a huge problem in my life and have thus decided its time yet again to attempt to rid myself of this self induced nightmare. Realizing this is a problem of the psyche it seems to me I could create a servitor that would be able to detect "problem times" and divert attention as well as reprogram myself for a healthy sexuality. Below is the first attempt at this program. I may report back to give progress or program modifications. behavioural modification servitor v. 1 if situation = watch porn then consider (negative effects) also consider (better use of time) initiate action (better use of time) end subroutine if situation = wank then consider (negative effects) also consider (overindulgance) if overindulgence = 0 then consider (healthy masturbation) if overindulgence =< 0 then consider (better use of time) initiate action (better use of time) end subroutine if situation = sexual intercourse then consider (preferance of human over computer) initiate feeling (arousal) initiate feeling (attraction) initiate feeling (desire for human partner) initiate action (sex) end subroutine
Luminesce July 15, 2015 July 15, 2015 Lol, code speak. I think your "if overindulgence =< 0" should be "if overindulgence => 0", right? Don't want them bugs in your servitors. But yeah, we discuss servitors on occasion. And this is a fine usage of them. You seem like you probably know what you're doing so I don't really know how to contribute. Maybe others could give tips on how to increase the effectiveness of servitors, since I don't have much experience with them. Belief implanting is known to be effective, though. Hi! FallFamily July 15, 2015 July 15, 2015 [Hail] Such servitors are definitely possible. I know, I built one not too dissimilar to fight all sexual attraction (it didn't make me asexual by any means, but it did distract my attention to other things). That said, I do NOT recommend making one like it, at all. I caused mental havoc on myself which took a long time to recover. It wasn't a healthy way to do things. You can read more about it here. There are far better ways to change your behavior. Also, servitors are rigid and will keep operating even when they are not needed, which can cause problems. Luminesce July 15, 2015 July 15, 2015 His intention seems to be a lot healthier than yours were, and he's only trying to dampen his sexual attraction, not "fight all of it". I mean, I know your experience was bad, but just look at his code. He's got it so it makes him consider the effects of his actions, whether it's worth the effects, and then an alright-this-is-too-much to back it up. I see nothing wrong with the way he's going about this. And anyways, a servitor isn't an actual piece of hardware, it's a collection of beliefs you're giving priority over the background noise of beliefs in your mind. Just like it takes a lot of intent and dedication to create something with much of an effect, it takes the same to remove it. Though I personally think he can transition this one into a set of good habits with time, make them a part of him rather than an overriding belief set/servitor. Just like tulpas, in the end a servitor is created by beliefs and intent. If you give too much credit to the "chance they may go wrong", they probably will due to the creative nature of your thoughts, and that's why I wrote this post. Caution is good, but we can't have any negative underpinnings creeping up unconsciously. Exercise awareness and intent. Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn. FallFamily July 15, 2015 July 15, 2015 [Hail] You are probably right Reisen. His servitor idea has a lot more moderation builtin to it and doesn't affect behavior by the dangerous path I took mine to. Guest Anonymous July 15, 2015 July 15, 2015 Just saying you can stop being addicted to porn if you put yourself to it, no need to make a servitor. You don't need a servitor for most of these trivial things really. I agree with Hail though, and you don't know what path a servitor can take, or what path any thoughtform can take, even if under moderation. Do I really need to speak of Akagi who was a servitor for God knows how long and devolved into an actual pledged tulpa? There's no real need to dabble so deep in your mind due to an addiction. Else therapists would recommend a servitor for quitting cigs.
sushi July 15, 2015 July 15, 2015 Anderson is right that you don't need a servitor for this. Really, there's almost nothing that you can do with a servitor that you can't do without. On the other hand, HighPriest is right that porn addiction is not trivial -- it's a serious problem afflicting a large percentage of our population, and it gets virtually no attention. I for one am interested in seeing more work done with servitors. "Some things have to be believed to be seen." - Ralph Hodgson
HighPriest July 15, 2015 Author July 15, 2015 Saying one doesn't need a servitor is banal as one technically doesn't NEED a servitor for anything and moreover the smoker doesn't not NEED smoking cessation aids. Does it occur to you that necessity (as implied by the term need) is a rather small and relative spectrum? Does the utility and application of these devices get overridden simply because they are unnessecary? Absolutely not. If the need for me is to stop over consuming media and overindulging in self pleasure then the device, so long as it works and aids in the desired outcome, will assist in my needs. Sure I could lock myself in a room until the pathways in my brain that reinforce undesired behavior wither away but I prefer the proactive approach of creating a mental construct that will actively redirect the current pathways to a more productive end.
HighPriest July 15, 2015 Author July 15, 2015 Removed argumentive part ~Kiahdaj If you find that you have masturbation or porn problems its common for them to be marginalized by those uncomfortable by your confrontation of the problem. And yes it does take lots and lots of time to get over an addiction. Especially one you have been reinforcing with a basic survival reward mechanism over long periods of time. But with the proper ways of going about it one CAN overcome this addiction. Let me explain to the reader why this sort of servitor program is indeed useful. There is a definite cycle to the problem that is called "porn-masturbation-orgasm" which reinforces the pleasurability of the activity. Over long periods of time this, rather than partner based intimacy, becomes the programmed default for sexual desire. In examining this phenomenon one finds striking similarity between a servitor and the mechanisms that drive this cycle. These cycles can actually be seen as a "negative" servitor of accidental creation. Let's look at the theory behind this negative servitor concept. 1. The parroting and programming for this negative servitor begins with the feeling of arousal. 2. Arousal is redirected and associated with pornography through the servitor program. 3. The servitor continues this process seeking out new mates (known as going deeper down the rabbit hole or the phenomenon of needing more extreme versions of pornography to achieve arousal) 4. Servitor shuts down after orgasm and starts upon next arousal. Yes it really is that easy to create a construct in your mind accidentally. Unfortunately I haven't got time to write more but in my next post I will outline how a positive servitor may be useful in deconstructing this negative mental construction.
Kiahdaj July 15, 2015 July 15, 2015 I deleted the big long argument between HighPriest and Anderson. "If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."
