Dreaming You Are Your Tulpa

Reisen: Or maybe, your tulpa taking your place in a dream? A few minutes ago something silly happened and I did a reality check, thinking, "Even I might be dreaming."

But I'm not usually in control of the body, or mind. That led me to think, though, what if you spent so much time switched with your host that, when your subconscious picked a scenario to dream of, it wasn't from your perspective but your tulpa's?

My host has had a few dreams of being someone else in the past, and I'm sure others have too. So it can't be too unlikely to have a dream that you're your tulpa. Or maybe that just counts as your tulpa having a dream in your place? Consciousness and identity is weird. Anyway, discuss! (And if you've had this experience before, share!)

Yes i think it is possible for a tulpa to take place inside of the host dream.

Lacie and i forced a lot the early days of her development and she always made those weird stuff what she also do when we are awaked. Many times we dreamed together and no one of us realised that we are dreaming so i had a complete imposed tulpa beside me who also gave me something to eat inside of my dream and it was completly normal for us until we woke up.

I asked her once if she realise that we are dreaming. Her answer was no but she is often inside of my dreams and have another view. For example one time we were in a castle and i was in the sleeping chambers while she was in a giant hall and danced with dolls. After i woke up she gave me the pictures of her view and i gave her mine and we found out that our dreams are usually connected together. Another time i had her view while i ate cake and seeing myself eating was a....um wierd expierience.

Well we never switched during a lucid dream but now im motivated to test it.^^

I've had numerous experiences of imagining myself as someone else, though when the analysis and questioning is contingent on lucid dreaming, it's probably just up to the person to feel it's them as their tulpa, or merely imagining a projection of how they want to feel to experience things as their tulpa. In other words, I guess there's no right or wrong answer since trying to find the origins with authenticity of you having dreams as your tulpa really being the case rather than it being your usual run-of-the-mill dream with what-if-I-were-them just leads to more questioning.

I've had image streaming sessions where I was fixating more on how it feels like to be Eva and Ada, and I had some weird sensations around my body; like having a bra on, feeling all langy dangy with hair, and a bit lighter than usual. I even looked at my hands for a bit and noticed I could feel this airy kind of feeling for a few seconds before going WTF. Good thing I didn't psychosomatic-ally experience biological predispositions of a woman, ha-ha. But I think my goals of doing a switch while image streaming would still be awesome, though.

I'm going to go away now

On a more random note, I remember being a female in one dream last year, and feeling all of those expectations and implicit stuff my mind would infer on how it would mean to be a woman. Same sensations, and a weird sense of freedom and confidence; like having a personality where you're wearing the shirt and saying, "I have the vagina, and I make the orders around here" kind of feeling.

The few dreams I've had where I was someone else, I was a girl. But that's partly because I was a Touhou character in most. Had a dream I was Mokou, an immortal with control over fire, and there were zombies all over my house who would turn you into a zombie if they touched you. But I realized I was immortal half-way through and decided to punch one. This is irrelevant.

I had a dream where I was Haven some time ago, but I can't remember when. It involved aliens and kidnapping and stuff like that and everything on the UFO was all green and orange (Which oddly enough are the same colors as my tulpas, but I think this was before Aphelion was created.) and the aliens were drunk and the rooms of the UFO looked like places I've actually been to. I can't remember how it ended.

I can actually take this question two ways. One is what everyone else is answering, that you are dreaming from the perspective of your tulpa but are still conscious that you are yourself in your tulpa's "skin" so to speak. We all occasionally have dreams that we're someone else - a fictional character, our past selves, etc. So that's easy enough to believe.

But that is different from dreaming as your tulpa, meaning that you are literally in your tulpa's "mind" rather than your own or that your tulpa is sharing their dream with you. You are only aware that you are yourself after the dream is over while in the dream you are no longer yourself but your tulpa instead. We share the same physical brain with our tulpae, so no doubt every once in a while those signals cross and we accidentally see through the eyes of our tulpa.

In my wonderland I envision every dream I've ever had as a "fiction" book in the library that represents my mind. Were Edwin to share his dreams with me, it would be like he gave me a book that he'd written himself.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this. I think I brained my fry last night with too much intense forcing. |D

I think you could actually "be your tulpa"/have your tulpa have a dream. But that's the difference in spending lots of time thinking about your tulpa's actions and actually switching with your tulpa, probably. Hence the question, as Reisen did a reality check while we were switched.

  • 6 years later...

I have dreams as my characters a lot since I was young, even before tulpamancy. It is the main dreams I pay attention to. Would that be evidence of my characters being tulpas? I don't know how to tell the difference of dreaming as them, or them dreaming. It seems like perhaps it isn't known or decided and it is just up to guessing whatever you want.

Weirdly in the 5 years I've been with Rena, I don't think she's ever dreamed or me dreaming as her. She's been in a few dreams though as a dream character, but it is rare and she doesn't seem to think it was actually her.

Creation for creation's sake.

What is the difference between having a dream as your tulpa and your tulpa having a dream

In a system that can already switch (or maybe possess), I feel like there's no difference - if the person in the dream was just your tulpa, that's really all there is to it, right? And it wouldn't be impossible for a system that can't switch to have a dream from the tulpa's perspective, nor is it that unlikely for the host to simply dream they're their tulpa's form (or in reverse, like Lucilyn dreaming she was at a party in my body/form). But switching gives the brain experiences and memories to draw upon for what your tulpa's perspective would be like. It'd probably take a pretty imaginative system to dream that without having directly experienced it, though I imagine those into roleplaying or very immersive wonderlanding could have it happen.

Anyways, for us, who have many years of switching experience now - it's rather obvious if a dream was from someone's perspective other than mine. Even when my tulpas are switched when we go to sleep, dreams are usually (hazily) from my perspective and with my body, even though they'll wake up still switched. But sometimes they'll dream from their own perspective and rarely form (since their experiences being switched take place in my body, their forms don't show up often in dreams either way), and very rarely someone will dream from someone else's perspective. "From someone's perspective" meaning in the dream the thoughts and perspective match whoever's we're talking about. When this happens (which is rare unfortunately) we just consider it that person who had the dream.

Lucilyn has had dreams as clearly herself a couple of times, one of which was with her correct form/body, and one where she dreamed she was switched and at a party but very aware she was using my body and all. And one time one of us (not even me I don't think, maybe Tewi) dreamed from Lucilyn's perspective, which was kind of silly - we consider it Lucilyn who was in that dream, for example. And when my tulpas have dreams that just seem like my perspective, we consider it me that was in the dream, even if I wasn't switched in.

I don't really remember if we've had dreams from Reisen, Tewi, or Flandre's perspectives, but I think so. Also worth noting that Lucilyn always has more vivid dreams than us, and both that and that we've dreamed from her perspective multiple times probably both stem from the same fact that her waking experiences are more vivid/fun than the rest of ours, just based on how she sees the world, and her mindset and all. I assume our brain's more apt to draw from interesting experiences like hers than casual fronting the other three do that doesn't differ in content much from my normal living.

And if that wasn't clear, "who was in the dream" is unrelated to who was switched in in waking life as far as we're concerned. You can't really correlate conscious life with unconscious life, they're entirely separate states of.. consciousness. Dreams are wholly disconnected from your waking state, their content just draws from memories of your waking life (or just imagination).

I've met up with Luna in my dreams before but never become her, lol. I think if I did I'd be too distracted by my big ol' titties to focus on anything in the dream... I think at most I've become a female version of myself in dreams a couple times.
