Trojan White May 24, 2016 May 24, 2016 I'm having real trouble focusing my mind, what methods do you guys use to get your mind under control?
Guest Anonymous May 24, 2016 May 24, 2016 My host sits in a comfortable position, closes his eyes and breaths very deeply through his nose. It helps to sit cross legged or in the lotus position so that his back is straight. He concentrates on his breathing, take it in and out very slowly and filling his lungs and emptying them completely each time. Sometimes he will visualize the ocean shore and waves crashing onto the beach. He will do this for at least half an hour until he feels completely relaxed. At that point, he begins to sort of withdraw into the center of his body, or his awareness does. He becomes more and more disconnected form his senses and more internalized. He focuses on the breathing and the calming imagery. Some people employ sensory deprivation while meditating by putting a blind over the eyes and wearing ear plugs. You have to practice this a lot to get good at it and it takes a while to reach that trance like state and a calm mind.

Drakaina May 24, 2016 May 24, 2016 Meditation has gotten an image of zen and quiet minds, which is really not what it is at all. Our brains have been trained to think and be active for as long as we've been alive. Thinking is what it does. Meditation is more about recognizing that these thoughts happen, but then move on. A focus is a must. Most people use the breath, watching it go in and out, how it feels in the nostrils or your belly as it rises and falls. But you can really use any of your five senses as a focus. Lighting a candle and training your attention on it, or having a stone or some beads you can feel with your hands to ground you, a focus can be almost anything as long as it's a constant in the present, and will bring you into the moment. Here's a document about 22 different kinds of meditation, what they specialize in, and how to do them. I use my meditation as a supplement to my active forcing, using my tulpa (and an object that represents her) as my focus. The mind will wander, there's no avoiding it, so don't beat yourself up for your brain doing what it was made to do. :3 "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." -Arthur Conan Doyle
solarchariot May 25, 2016 May 25, 2016 The easiest meditation practice that I have taught to those who are absolutely adamant that they can't learn to meditate is called the "puppy dog" method. It is meditation, but it sometimes disguised under the language "mindfulness." here is the website to the source. http://mindfulnessforstudents.co.uk/resources/puppy-mind/ I hope you find this helpful, and if after reading it, you have more questions, i am at your service. :)
Metatron May 25, 2016 May 25, 2016 There are many different kinds of meditation, ranging from focusing on one topic for an extended period of time or just trying to clear your mind. Or a nice mix of the two where you just let your stream of consciousness go where it may. They all have their own uses and benefits, and it all depends on what you want out of it. Too many people get caught up in trying to do it "right" that they neglect to realize that it is just another personal tool. You get what you need. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle "When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." -Marcus Aurelius “Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” -Neil Gaiman "The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried." -Stephen McCranie
