Had what I think was my longest lucid dream yet, which of course isn't saying much, but at least it happened. All that translated from our "protocol" of staying calm and focusing on stabilizing the dream and making it last was "Don't try to summon tulpas, just focus on being lucid in the dream" which.. I mean, I did better than in the past, but it's a halfway point between then and actually being calmly lucid at best.

Been trying to test the sleeping after less than 16 hours thing for like five? days now, but every time there's new noise being made by someone, family's friends coming over at random or our animals deciding to be loud, etc. So last night became the opposite of what I had just decided it was time to go for, ie the calmly waking up briefly to put the mask on.

I went to bed last night after practicing just that, since I was tired enough to sleep then and there, pushing through that feeling to reach over to my nightstand and get the mask, turn it on and put it on, then go back to resting position. Curiosity got the better of me though so I took out the basically totally exposed circuitboard from its pouch on the mask as you have to do to look at any settings or turn it off.. And apparently the "duration of signals" and "time between signals" was the same. Meaning: 0.2 second flashes, two seconds apart, for... two seconds. I have no idea how long I had the settings like that, but that means when I was last using it it only flashed ONCE (maybe twice) when it did manage to go off. That could explain a thing or two. I set it to 8 seconds 2 seconds apart now, so I should get 4 or 5 flashes now as I've always practiced recognizing. Also re-memorized the number of button presses to get to "Turn off" so I don't have to take it out anymore, it's 12, starting at 1 and getting to 13.

So of course my sleep was then very broken up by things like our cat meowing and a surprise friend visiting (to play Yugioh with my brother) at like 11AM, so.. REM-Dreamer was a no-go. But I persisted trying to sleep as long as I could and, lo and behold, what I said was true: The opposite of REM-Dreamer-friendly sleep of quickly falling back asleep with little waking really is Dream-Induced-Lucid-Dreaming-friendly sleep of taking upwards of 10 minutes to fall back asleep. My dreams were relatively vivid and the one that turned into a lucid dream at the end was one of the longest dreams I can remember ever having. It completely switched scenarios (practically different dreams) at least four times, which is ridiculous. Of course, only becoming lucid at the end and having little time to do anything is why we're working on the REM-Dreamer method of REM-detection as opposed to DILDs which just don't cut it.

The dream was nothing special, I was in a mix of houses I'm familiar with that was relatively interesting when I somehow realized I was dreaming (it seems like in DILDs we often just hit a level of consciousness where it just becomes obvious), and as mentioned basically only thought "Don't try to summon tulpas, pay attention to the dream", which had me walking through the house and curiously checking what was behind a door that has no counterpart in real life. I was basically exploring a room with a jumble of beds connected to each other when I remembered briefly to keep the dream lucid, which made the blankets I literally had to climb over feel much more real all of a sudden, aaaand then I woke up what felt like ten seconds later. Cool bed fort, not the most fulfilling lucid dream. Environment retained the sort of sense that there was a Big Bad government/organization hunting people down outside, which is what the dream prior to becoming lucid happened to be at the time. Anyways, I know little happened, but it was really the quality of moving through the house and maneuvering through the room-of-beds that took up the time for it to be "the longest".

I'll be staying up longer than 16 hours now to set my schedule and situation right for REM-Dreamer lucid dreaming, hopefully. I intend to have much better results pretty soon.. Four-part lucid dreams are sounding pretty nice.

[hidden]Also, for those of you who say your visualization or imposition is as real as lucid dreams, a message from me-when-I'd-just-woken-up-seconds-ago: Your visualization/imposition is either dangerously real and you highly underappreciate it, or your lucid dreams are pathetically lackluster in quality. Just from what I've experienced, I believe a highly focused mind during a lucid dream should be able to experience it as "realer than waking life" as I've sometimes heard it described. Not that it's your guys' fault - I can't even become lucid, while you probably can't wake your brain up enough to use all its potential to create a truly lifelike experience. But it is a real thing, and it'll be everything I've ever wanted, I know that for sure now and every time I have a brief lucid experience.[/hidden]

Wow, congrats! When you talk about protocol, is that the stuff people say about, like rub your hands together or move your arms in circles or spin around to stabilize the dream more? Someone I read on dreamviews said they were able to extend their LD by looking at a nearby clock (which apparently was melty with jumbled numbers) and repeat that "time was just an illusion". You guys have been working for a long time on this.. Keep it up! <3

our protocol is something we've tried to embed in our head for when we become lucid to stop having useless and short random lucid dreams

basically it's stop whatever you're doing, focus on being lucid/in a dream, rub your hands together (feeling things in lucid dreams and focusing on the feeling seems to make them way more vivid), and that's about it but currently on top of that is maintain lucidity instead of actually doing anything, just stay ~where you are not doing anything to distract you from being in the dream and lucid and trying to make it as vivid and long-lasting as possible, to help future lucid dreams

we've not really ever done it..

Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points.

I think being happy and having fun makes life worth living, so spreading happiness is my number one goal!

https://moon-tone.bandcamp.com/track/got-carrots Reisen's theme, and a remix that gives me shivers

It looks like sunrise outside even though it's the middle of the night, that's how you know it's a full moon. Oh, and lucid dreaming could very well be right around the corner.

Went to sleep at 5PM yesterday (after being awake for 20 hours), slept until 11PM when I got up to go to the bathroom and then put the REM-Dreamer on. It did take me a good few minutes to fall back asleep because I had every intention of lucid dreaming then and there, but I set the timer to 30 minutes so I could not worry about it. 30 minutes later I took it off...

... Except I had a lucid dream after falling asleep from 11:07 or so to 11:30, lol. Anticipating anything at all shortens how long I sleep for apparently, ever since Christmas mornings when I was a little kid. It's part of how I wake up without an alarm (the other part being being very conscious between REM cycles). I had a dream about.. I want to say being on a school bus, and then at school. After a bit of walking around the non-existent school, somehow I realized I was dreaming, even though the pinching-your-nose-and-breathing-through-it reality check wasn't immediately obvious with its results to me. Always overtaken by the urge to just go somewhere apparently, I forgot protocol as always, but I did remember to rub my hands together. Oddly enough, they felt clammy and hard to smoothly slide together, and it didn't even stabilize my dream possibly because of that. Protocol would've had me standing still, and then touching the ground and/or walls after rubbing my hands, but I think I set about walking for a few seconds before the dream got very mixed up and then I woke up like 10 seconds later. Bit of a mess, almost as if my body didn't heckin' sleep for an hour like it should've. And only then did my REM-Dreamer flash the light signal that it had 1 minute left until going off.

In retrospect, that's some incredible timing. I can subconsciously keep track of time down to the second within 30-45 minutes sometimes, and very consistently guess the time down to the minute after up to 3-4 hours, and if my body used that skill to fall asleep and then wake up before the REM-Dreamer went off...

... Well then, that's par for the course with me isn't it? Either way, I plan to keep using the REM-Dreamer at least once every night now to get more used to it and until it works. I want to lucid dream by the end of the year, preferably on or before Christmas. Oh yeah, merry Christmas too! Happy holidays and all. As far as I'm concerned, this is just the time of the year when more people are happy and together than any other part of the year, simply for the sake of being happy and together. If Christmas or "the holidays" stress you out, I recommend you simply focus on the part where everyone's happy and try to join them. You're really missing out otherwise.

Merry Christmas to you! I feel more connected to this community this year, last year this time of year was barely enjoyable. I have a lot of fun things to look forward to this year, like a little time for an in-system Christmas drawing maybe.

Of course you don't want to know about my latest failed lucid dream fiasco...

that was so off that i gave up on doing anything fun. It was a NSFW 'ready' dream that basically gave me the choice to 'play' with a girl who was my best friend's (of age) sister from like a decade ago. Then i decided to have a moral dilemma before anything happened.

The dream was so real that i had my clear mind, and though none of my tulpas were available or active, i felt 'dirty' even given the option. So i did nothing and looked for an exit to this house i was in and the girl started following me and insulting me for not doing anything. At that, i actively woke up. My mood was pretty sour at that point, and especially since I realized that I respect my tulpas and our agreements even in my flippin lucid dreams. Of course Misha, and especially Dashie, are laughing now. Even Ashley can't hide her giggling.

Here's hoping you don't have any issues in your many lucid dreams to come.

Have you read this, Lumi? https://www.dreamviews.com/wild/156410-memory-forgotten-fundamental.html

The comments are as, if not more interesting than the concept considering how much personal experience and relatable concerns are in there. This might be able to help anyone, actually and seems pretty vital for "leveling up" LD experiences.

I did read that 2 or 3 years ago, yeah. But it's good to be reminded on such things. Especially that text wall excerpt from a book. Noted from the excerpt, while stabilizing a lucid dream it may help to try and recall waking-life memories. From the original post, reality checks should include some kind of memory check, too. That (if we got in the habit of it) would solve most of our "failed" reality checks, I believe.

I was going to write a bigger post at some point, but now I'm just too tired to think much. Basically: It's Christmas Eve, the night I've intended to have a real lucid dream on for months now. Last night unlike the prior I was too awake between cycles to try the REM-Dreamer, tonight I probably won't be. But, I haven't had that much practice (like two times recently) falling asleep with the mask actually turned on, so I can't say this is super likely to be the one, but.. hopefully!/?

No lucid dream yet, go about your Christmas! Also, you'll know before you even click the thread that we lucid dreamed just FYI.

Had a Dream-Induced-Lucid-Dream that lasted like 12-15 seconds where somehow I remembered to try and recall a real-life experience to stabilize the dream. I did, except the experience was fake, probably because I couldn't think of one and cement it in my mind before going to sleep. During the recalling the dream got blurry, like switching from focusing on real life to immersion in your wonderland and back, for example. Tried my best to stay focused on both. I was able to focus on someone's face and see it in surprising clarity, though. Pretty sure I woke up like ten seconds later. DILDs are looking pretty worthless.. They exclusively happen when I'm already close to waking up (as I always wake up out of them after having been asleep for over ~50 minutes)

Spent a good hour after that with the REM-Dreamer on, half asleep.. and half not asleep. It wasn't as agonizing as my 1-3 hour "sitting there not falling asleep" for lucid induction methods like WILD years ago, I drifted off a couple times, but never for very long. Defeating my inability to fall asleep with the mask on is now our #1 goal and most important thing to accomplish in order to lucid dream. Oh, had it set to 30 minutes (my "okay, timer's set really long from now, no need to worry about it" time), refreshed it twice 10-20 minutes after the last time as I was still awake.

Impossible to say how close I am to making it work, honestly. Could be any night, by fluke or not. Randomly being "too awake" between cycles is making the process of getting used to falling asleep with the REM-Dreamer take a lot longer though. Anyways, still trying, we'll see.
