Behold, the amount of life points you start out with in MTG: 31 (not accurate at all).

Yo, my name is Sean and I'm the host of 2 tulpas: Sente and Mae. You'll know when they're talking because Sente talks in yellow text and Mae talks in blue text.

Always expect a programmer to know powers of 2 (which 33 is not).

34 isn't a power of 2 either, but it's twice 17, so I guess that's cool.

I'm like never going to check this account. If you want to ask me something, you should check our status on Ranger's account instead.

Meow. You may see my headmates call me Gray or sometimes Cat.

I used to speak in pink and Ranger used to speak in blue (if it's unmarked and colored assume it's Ranger). She loves to chat.

You'd think the captain of a galaxy class starship would know that.

Captain's log #35: we are winning.

Can you explain why the first torpedo takes your shields down to fifty percent, but each consecutive never fully depletes the shields?

36 Because jean-luc has magic powers.

Note: I'm hit-or-miss activity-wise on this account. I may not respond to PMs for awhile.

I'm Ranger, GrayTheCat's cobud (tulpa), and I love hippos! I also like cake and chatting about stuff. I go by Rosalin or Ronan sometimes. You can call me Roz but please don't call me Ron.

My other headmates have their own account now, but it's outdated and I can't be bothered to update it

If I missed seeing your art, please PM/DM me!

Can you explain why the first torpedo takes your shields down to fifty percent, but each consecutive never fully depletes the shields?

Imagine you've got a bucket of water. That's your shields. Every torpedo is like a glass with half the volume of the bucket. Ignoring you have geometric constraints with the glass, bucket interaction, you could easily and completely drain the bucket in two glasses.

HOWEVER! The ship still has power and there's a regeneration rate for the shields. The first shot 50% the second shot is some time (t) later in this time the shields have had a chance to regenerate some, maybe not 50% at the third eh? That's fine, because the shields take some of the force and the hull then takes the rest. The hull (tritanium) is pretty tough as you know and only if the shields were below a certain minimum or down would the hull have to take the brunt.

In case you didn't know, (that's okay, I didn't know until I made it up just now either), shield technology is pretty advanced and it's designed to handle the many different damage types in a photon torpedo blast, let's arbitrarily say heat, impact, and nuclear.

Say the shields will deflect heat (or absorb) even if they're at 1%, say they're like an IR mirror, and any mirror, no matter even if they're minutely thin, can still reflect. The impact in that case would be almost entirely taken by the hull (which it can do all day) and the nuclear would need a few good hits int he same spot to transmute the hull to other less sturdy states through embrittlement or transmutation (by nuclear fusion or fission of the tritanium).

Of course once those shield generators break down (GEORDI!!!) then boom, the heat, impact and nuclear are free to wreak havoc. the higher temperatures soften the tritanium so the impacts are able to penetrate the hull and then boom irradiating those poor suckers holding the hull back with broomsticks (or whatever the hecc they're doing on the exposed side of the ship in battle, GET OUT OF THERE BARCLAY!)
