Gambarimasu August 26, 2012 August 26, 2012 Hello there After a handful of experiments i have done in order to know my own way in turpaforcing, i reached the conclusion that doing a personality step doesn't feel right for me (if my tulpa have the trait "cheerful" is she going to be cheerful because i said so? or because she really feels like that? even if she deviate later it still doesn't feel right so i will try to find a way without it) The thing is, i heard that doing the personality step is good because you can feel their existence more vividly like if you already know this person, but what about a somewhat uknown person? how can you feel a person you really don't know about? (i always thought of her as i person i barely know, but someone i want to know more about and make good friends with) I will try to rely much more on visualization because of that and put some knowledge in form of books about personality in the wonderland for her to learn about(i don't know if this work with non-sentient tulpas but it's worth a try) but maybe there is something i'm missing about this non-personality matter so i'm asking here.
Pronas August 26, 2012 August 26, 2012 Maybe you could just give suggestions to her? Say like "i think it would be nice if you liked reading, or were cheerful and stuff". I did that and my tulpa turned out ok.
Phi August 26, 2012 August 26, 2012 Keep going into the wonderland and talk to her about various things. Eventually you'll see her start to form her own personality without the need for a personality step. The only negative part of this is that you could end up with anything from a tomboy to a frilly princess. Though they do tend to end up with a generally likable personality to the creator, even if some of the traits might irk you a bit. The personality stage is mostly just for people who have a personality in mind and want to see their tulpa have it, save some deviations that might occur. There's no actual need to do one. Personality isn't always the step that makes you sense them more vividly. Most people use the 'treat as sentient before sentient' approach, so they narrate their personality to them. Personality isn't what makes them sense the tulpa, it's the narration. You'll be narrating in wonderland without a personality anyway, so it won't matter. You'll still start to feel their presence. The books thing is a nice idea. She probably won't start reading them until she begins to show sentience, but put them in there now anyway because it adds.
Pashoo August 26, 2012 August 26, 2012 I'm pretty sure Irish actually created his tulpa entirely without personality working, letting her form it for herself. I'd have to say you could definitely skip the personality step, but as Phi said, it means you could get anything for a personality. Worst case scenario, your tulpa is an outright jerk that hates your guts, so you might want to at least exclude that possibility. An abstract, all-encompassing love is still a love, nonetheless.
Gambarimasu August 26, 2012 Author August 26, 2012 I'm okay with whatever shows up, hell i'm not perfect myself, it would be very selfish if i give her a personality that i like. The thing i was talking about the sensing the tulpa through personality is that some people recall more easily a tulpa with personality(i.e i'm walking down the street and i see some X situation and i think about my tulpa because she would react Y way and therefore i can picture her really easy) but for someone that is not working on personality is really difficult to remember your tulpa sometimes, even during visualization i can't recall a good face and that complex stuff about it so i really don't have some sort of "memento" that reminds me she's there (but still i try to narrate every now and then and i even say "wake up" instead of "gain sentience" i try to aknowledge that fact) Worst case scenario, your tulpa is an outright jerk that hates your guts, so you might want to at least exclude that possibility. i thought that at some point, but really try not to think about that, i try to see her as a good person and at some point i even used the dungeon and dragon alignment sistem for reference and said she was a "Lawful Good" person.
Phi August 26, 2012 August 26, 2012 She won't hate your guts unless you're afraid that she'll hate your guts and let that run the whole process.
Pashoo August 26, 2012 August 26, 2012 Faces are one of the most difficult things to visualize and imagine because they're the part of any being that we relate with the most. If you're just starting, then very likely, you're not gonna quite have the face down, yet. Don't worry, that'll come with practice. As for trying to recall your tulpa specifically, I think as long as you recognize her as a being, rather than a personality (seeing as you don't know the personality you're working with) then you should be fine. Also, just throwing this out there, some people have mentioned using some kind of scented thing while tulpaforcing, since smell is the sense most closely associated with memories. It may help you remember important details. I haven't tried it myself, but it might work for you. dungeons and dragons Hell yeah An abstract, all-encompassing love is still a love, nonetheless.
QB2 August 26, 2012 August 26, 2012 If you don't want to give them that framework, let them make it themselves with Fede's method or one of the similar ones. Honestly, I think the best way is to do both. Tell them what they're like, then interact with them and watch them evolve into someone more complex than that. Edit: Though obviously no matter what you do they'll evolve at some point anyway, and keep evolving for their entire lives; that's what living does. The above post does not contain facts. q2's the host, QB's the tulpa.
Gambarimasu August 26, 2012 Author August 26, 2012 so i narrate, i treat her as a sentient being, i try to believe in her and try to picture her in my wonderland but i still feel like i'm missing something. screw that, i'm doing perfectly good, i don't know why i'm such a fag with that (i don't count hours, but as far as i know at the moment i am some people have a sentient tulpa already) maybe i'm a slowpoke but i never thought of giving up, maybe if i think i'm doing great it will really to do fine. It will be a "get the fuck out of here and force, don't doubt that the shit you are doing is right" for myself. For the scent thing i think is like the personality thing, again if i don't know how she is how can i relate her to a scent? even if i can relate to her a scent, finding a scent that special will be rather dificult don't you think? If you don't want to give them that framework, let them make it themselves with Fede's method or one of the similar ones. Honestly, I think the best way is to do both. Tell them what they're like, then interact with them and watch them evolve into someone more complex than that. Edit: Though obviously no matter what you do they'll evolve at some point anyway, and keep evolving for their entire lives; that's what living does. Maybe you are right, but i still feel like saying things like "You are like this or like that" are wrong, but maybe saying something like "that thing over there sound fun, maybe we should try it" and show her interest things would be a good idea, like trying to show all the good things in this world to a person that doesn't know them (hell i'm starting to think that i'm answering myself, i'd better go out and wonder things for myself and quit acting like a n00b here) but hey, thanks for the replys. Edit: i search for this fede's method and it sound almost like what i said... wow i'm really acting like a n00b now...
Kiahdaj August 26, 2012 August 26, 2012 Fede's method I keep seeing this referenced. Where can I find it? "If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."
