glitchthe3rd May 24, 2012 May 24, 2012 Tulpae, soulbound, spirit guides, servitors, imaginary friends, they're all the same basic concept. I'm not going to say which of us is right or wrong here, but we can at least agree to disagree on what to call these thoughtforms. "Science isn't about why, science is about why not?" -Cave Johnson Tulpae: Luna, Elise, Naomi My progress report
Charlotte May 24, 2012 May 24, 2012 No, that's the earth silly. The universe is a myth. Actually I think he was refrencing the modern theory that the universe is actually 2D and everything looks like it's moving in a 3D space because each layer lets the other take a turn in moving at a rate so fast no living being can detect it. But I don't even know what I started with the magic comment so please ignore my faggotry. This hot empty painting should be locked and towed.
Guest May 24, 2012 May 24, 2012 It's more that the multiverse theory does not imply that literally every possibility exists in some universe. There are still limits. Ah, thanks. Depends which multiverse theory. Personally, I think every consistent (computable or more) possibility exists, a-la Tegmark, Schmidhuber and Marchal, otherwise whatever the "true" theory has to be too complex, which offends my Occam's Razor senses. The way I see it, if you want to consider soulbonds or even tulpae as continuations of some astronomically improbable world, with a lot of amnesia in between, then it would be fine, as long as you don't literally require that that world exist given some particular rules, but something like the existence of just the Boltzmann-like brain associated with that being or merely just the bits required to generate some experiences, so in the case of some magical inconsistent messy world that wouldn't make any sense, you'd just have the experience as real, but not that actual world's rules being ontologically real. Why am I harping about this? I really dislike theories that try to deny the existence of any subjective experiences, especially ones that go like "dreams didn't happen, they're just junk memories" - those "junk" memories were real and I will acknowledge them as being real for me, otherwise, I should just throw all continuity out the window and just consider that there is only a single *now* and no past or future relative to it. From the perspective of a soulbond or a tulpa which believes in its backstory as being something real, for it, those experiences may as well been real, just highly improbable to be experienced if they were selected from all possible experiences (being of a very low measure in the multiverse). This isn't really a metaphysical interpretation, but I suppose some people could go consider it like that, although only because it does not violate any laws of logic or observed experimental data, of course, as a theory it's rather unfalsifiable (actually no, there is one way to falsify it, but I don't want to derail this thread any more, nor do I want to go start linking papers and turning this into serious discussion). Maybe a more interesting topic of discussion would be the subjective experiences of tulpae and if posession/fronting is possible, how would that change our own experiences? Could we suddenly start seeing the wonderland as vivid as lucid dream while being awake? and not under the influence of any drugs?

Ned Bigby May 24, 2012 May 24, 2012 It's cool to see a bonder who sees the phenomena as psychological. I've talked to some who were downright INSULTED at the notion that it might be a mental thing. As if that's somehow lesser, urgh...

As if that's somehow lesser, urgh... Of course it's psychological, but the part someone would find insulting is the where you claim that the past experiences of the soulbond didn't exist. See my previous post for why I find that problematic.
tulpatalk May 24, 2012 May 24, 2012 From the version 2 linked in the fronting guide: (we’re all girls so far…) Since here we're mostly male, does this mean you're our female counterparts? Could this have some relation to the anima/animus? It's be an interesting thing to think about. [Note: Opinions]

As if that's somehow lesser, urgh... True, I think it's amazing that the human mind could be capable of making an autonomous being. Whether they would actually come from either source, I'm just impressed that it's possible.

Oh god I never saw that I love how we believe in science and they can't even attempt science so it's gotta be all about souls and other universes It all makes sense now This hot empty painting should be locked and towed.
