There is lots of chaos here, most of it doesn't have you in involved in it. If you scale it out to even the US, a lot of the chaos here isn't caused by you either.

Convince me to get a hamster for Misha, but let me just say, I have not had a pet my in my adult life, which means I never had to take care of a pet since grade school and I really like that freedom.

I have had two hamsters. GET A SYRIAN. The smaller the hamster, the less they can be tamed. Taming means you can touch and hold and pet them and they'll take treats and generally be nice. People think robos and dwarf hamsters are cute, but most have the temperments of field mice. Get a syrian (teddybear) hamster. 

 

Don't get a wire cage. They are too small and they are LOUD. Your hamster will be climbing the bars then falling off, rattling the door at food time, and the bottoms are generally plastic, and you'll hear everything rustle against it. 

 

Get a long glass tank and a mesh lid. No bar-chewing, no risk of falling, no shitty plastic. It looks nicer in an adult's house, too.

 

Plus: it is generally intimidating for a hamster when people reach in from the doors on the side. With the big mesh lid, you can offer your entire hand, flat on the ground in the cage. You can hold the hamster over the open cage like that so it's okay if you drop him or he jumps. 

 

The glass is easy to clean and the litter is cheap. In a big tank, you also don't have to clean it as often as you might think. Hamsters naturally designate a pee corner. I would scoop out the wet litter from the pee corner on Wednesdays, and change all the litter on Sundays. It really didn't take long or smell that bad. 

 

Hamsters hoard food and eat from that. They only need fed once a day and although I changed mine's water daily, the water bottle would last three days or so. You can leave a hamster completely unattended for 48 hours, provided you double-feed and fill up their water beforehand. Can't do that with a dog unless you want to come home to pure chaos. 

 

Hamsters make great pets.

so my advice would be dont get one they creep me out and also reptiles make much better pets
