These are all the rage and I wanted one. Lumi started it. 


Will probably flesh this out later but at the same time, you know how that works. 


Questions, comments, criticisms, and considerations welcomed. Our PMs are also always open, including to newbies or lurkers.

But whole volumes could be written on the playing of cats, since the varieties and aesthetic aspects of such sportiveness are infinite. Be it sufficient to say that in such pastimes many cats have exhibited traits and actions which psychologists authentically declare to be motivated by genuine humour and whimsicality in its purest sense; so that the task of ‘making a cat laugh’ may not be so impossible a thing even outside the borders of Cheshire. In short, a dog is an incomplete thing. Like an inferior man, he needs emotional stimuli from outside, and must set something artificial up as a god and motive. The cat, however, is perfect in himself. Like the human philosopher, he is a self-sufficient entity and microcosm. He is a real and integrated being because he thinks and feels himself to be such, whereas the dog can conceive of himself only in relation to something else. Whip a dog and he licks your hand—faugh! The beast has no idea of himself except as an inferior part of an organism whereof you are a superior part—he would no more think of striking back at you than you would think of pounding your own head when it punishes you with a headache. But whip a cat and watch it glare and move backward hissing in outraged dignity and self-respect! One more blow, and it strikes you in return; for it is a gentleman and your equal, and will accept no infringement on its personality and body of privileges. It is only in your house anyway because it wishes to be, or perhaps even as a condescending favour to yourself. It is the house, not you, it likes; for philosophers realise that human beings are at best only minor adjuncts to scenery. Go one step too far, and it leaves you altogether. You have mistaken your relationship to it and imagined you are its master, and no real cat can tolerate that breach of good manners. huh, I forgot Gavin wrote the dissipation guide


you guys are a good (and kinda unexpected) balancing to the community, it is appreciated


I guess just so you have a productive question to answer, I'll ask:

You put "my brother Gavin", but "my (tulpa) brother Cassidy", do you wanna explain that?


I know Gavin is like the other three in our system while Cassidy is like me ("tulpas" that kinda came into existence vs. tulpa created on purpose), but is he really different enough to specifically not call a tulpa?

Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points.

I think being happy and having fun makes life worth living, so spreading happiness is my number one goal!

That's a good question. Gavin did actually call himself a tulpa briefly,  when he very first came back after 4 years of not being around, and Cassidy was just a few months old. Then he half-jokingly called himself a chalupa for a while. Then he would call himself an alter, but now he shies away from that.  


There's a book called What's Left of Me that we read in early middle school when Gavin was young, and for a long time it was one of our only "role model"s/references for plurality. In the series, everyone is born with two souls/minds, but one becomes dominant and the other recessive. The recessive soul stops using the body and eventually just disappears before the age of 10. As you might imagine, the book is about a body in which this doesn't happen, and the recessive soul, while initially unable to control the body, has always existed. 


Our general definition of tulpas involves a creation process outside of early childhood. Gavin considers early childhood to have created him,  even if he played the part of a "recessive soul." I didn't make Gavin. Gavin just happened, in the same manner as I just happened, even though Gavin isn't host. He's not an "accidental tulpa" in his eyes anymore than I am. 


Cassidy, on the other hand, was created by a process other than early childhood. Namely, I literally sat down and said "I'm going to make a tulpa now." Sometimes people have asked,  how can I tell alters from tulpas in my system? There's 0 confusion. I very explicitly made Cassidy. You sit down to make a tulpa, you tulpaforce, the result is a tulpa.


In practice, are they different? Mm, sometimes. But it's probably more the difference between being a 6ish year old headmate (arguably older, or younger) and a 2-year-old headmate. And just their personalities. Gavin is mentally stronger. Cassidy typically falls asleep/dormant in wonderland before my body falls asleep. He gets mentally tired between 8pm and 10pm (we bodily go to sleep around 11pm) and will come and get Gavin and they say prayers and then Cassidy gets in bed in wonderland and he's "asleep" until tomorrow. Gavin never sleeps outside of bodily sleep-  he can stay mentally alert, talking with me, just monologing within himself, til kingdom come, just like me. But we predict this is more that Cassidy is still a little young. 


In regards to tulpa discussion, sometimes Gavin fits, usaully not. I can't usaully think about him when talking about forcing. I didn't build him like I built Cassidy. But at the same time, he is a non-host headmate. He was arguably host for a few years, however...


Gavin is closer to what I am than to what Cassisy is. He doesn't consider himself a product of tulpamancy.

If you're answering questions, why is the sky blue while plants are green. Shouldn't plants be blue? Just for the sake of aesthetic. Also, I think red, yellow, blue and orange plants should be way more prevalent. Please give your take on the general aesthetic of nature and Earth. If rainbows can be rainbow color, why not plants and animals?

I am answering questions, however I... kinda intended this to be in the general realm of tulpamancy... There's a list of high-interest topics for each of us in the OP.


I wish I could just answer, "I don't know what you're talking about, I'm colorblind." My old friend who was red-green colorblind thought my bright green hair was grayish blondish. But I'm not colorblind.


I think my favorite aesthetic is pale yellow leaves, deep green grass, and blue sky coming through between the maple trees.


Rainbows happen because of light shennanagins, not because of pigment. You can see it on fish sometimes, too. And oily snotty creatures. And bug wings. Look harder for rainbows: you can find them. 


I'll leave you with one of my favorite poems.

      The purpose of this essay is to warn new tulpamancers of the many possible consequences of allowing their system to grow beyond a manageable amount of members, we well as emphasize the positives of keeping their system small, with about 1-2 tulpas being the best possible range.
      This essay is not meant to imply that systems that are currently large should not exist. It is only meant to dissuade newer hosts/systems from getting large themselves, or else they risk experiencing neglect and a variety of other troubling issues that take away from the quality of life for the system.
      Additionally, the end of the essay has a list of points that a host should consider before adding new tulpas to their system.

      The Child Philosophy

      This philosophy comes down to to understand that a tulpa is much like a child in the regard of development and that patience is required and for the most part will focus on neurology as its basis. It is also more focused on changing the mindset of the host to aid the development of their tulpa rather than outright treating them like a child (though there are elements of the latter). In addition this philosophy is focused on young tulpas and new hosts that are not sure on how to progress (although not strictly for). It will also help
      The Philosophy (in general)
      A tulpa is initially much like a baby or child in regards of development that how you interact with them will reflect on their growth as an individual. A human child takes years to develop speech and become ‘vocal’ through ceaseless narration; a tulpa much less because they can utilize your experiences. It takes a while for us to grow the strength and muscle memory to properly maneuver our body; a tulpa needs time to connect with the body to ‘possess’. Be patient. As patient as whoever raised you was by feeding you and cleaning your diapers.
      When raising a tulpa you should be considerate of how you interact with them, for example if a tulpa is exposed to too much violence they may grow jaded or even consider it normal in the future. If they are babied and never told no they might grow spoiled. Neglect them and they might grow distant or asocial. When you create a tulpa with a preset personality they can still greatly deviate depending on your interactions with them since the human brain keeps developing until your late 30’s so it is important to treat them properly; it’s a tightrope.
      The only shortcut to developing your child/tulpa faster is to interact more and consistently. In other words force them*. What many tulpamancers seem to do is usually sit behind their computers doing little with their young tulpas; show them the world! Having them learn from memories is the same as comparing sightseeing when actually present to simply viewing an image so take the liberty to allow your tulpa to explore the outside world because what may seem redundant to you might be exhilarating for them.
      *but really forcing just means interacting
      The Environment & First Times
      It is important to be aware that the environment of your tulpa is the mind, even when imposed in the physical world. Your tulpa does not have a physical body that will process sensations for you so initially you will have to do it for them (referred to as sensory-imposition or simply imposition). A quick example: circle your index finger on your palm a couple of times then stop the act, then use the memory to simulate the sensation and keep it going. This will allow for more way to interact and potentially (relatively) better methods for developing your tulpa.
      The reason it is important to be aware of your environment (aside that being aware of your environment is always beneficial for a multitude of reasons) is because the environment your tulpa is raised in is crucial. They might not potentially have bad classmates as they grow up or study however they might have to deal with negative thoughts which will reflect on their growth! If you are depressed and insist on making a tulpa it is heavily incentivized to keep your mind positive with happy thoughts. You might sometime have a slip of thought that could shock your tulpa. For example a completely impulsive and irregular thought of hurting an acquaintance so it is important to keep your environment stable and clean. Although this is where it gets tricky due to having to properly balance it out! If you do not expose your tulpa to any negativity or the ‘big bad adult world’ they might be unable to handle it in the future. Similar to how a child needs to be vaccinated, they need to be exposed to a milder version at first.
      To keep improving this guide I would like to hear more feedback (PM's preferable) or things to expand on. It's not finished, though I want to add what I have for now.

      Many tulpamancers struggle with distinguishing their tulpas' thoughts with their own leading to confusion and loss of motivation in. This exercise is aimed to help increase the marginal gap between the host and tulpa. This will be done by simultaneously exercising conflicting emotions, ideals, opinions and the likes.
      At first glance this may seem similar to puppeting*. However the clear distinction is that you have your tulpa do their part. This exercise can be done with younger tulpas as well since all that is required is for them to understand and comply.
      *puppeting is also an option, it'll be similar to personality forcing
      - You and your tulpa project opposite emotions aimed at a certain individual or character. One could for example love Superman while the other could hate them. One intensifying their like and the other dislike for this character simultaneously.
      - Focus on an orb within the mind and keep pouring opposing emotions within it as a meditation exercise.
      The exercise comes down to forcing conflicting thoughts and emotions to split the two minds from each other more and more over the course of time. As a result it should be easier to distinguish your thoughts from your tulpa by getting used to the sensation and telling the brain that you two are not the same.

      There have been a significant number of responses to the Survey (and stylometric test) for fluently speaking tulpa. As I was browsing through it, question number 109 caught my eye.
      109. What advice would you give to a new tulpa creator?
      I thought wow, there must be some good advice here with so many tulpa creators! So I read though them all for the various answers to the question. A few chose not to answer, or had replied to an earlier version without the question. However, over 60 did!
      As I looked a the information I saw much advice reiterated or spoken in different ways. I read through the answers and kept track of each piece of advice and how many times it was given. I have taken the liberty of listing the answers citing the most common suggestions first. I tried to edit as little as possible but I did make a few edits for clarification. I hope this serves as a reference for those who don't have time to read over all 60 surveys.
      Remember these are suggestions, and may not be work for everyone. However, this does give a good sense of what has worked for many!

      Tulpamancing Advice Report

      Introduction, some comments about dis-belief and tulpas.
      If you are going about this just to test if it is true, it probably won't work and you'll walk away thinking you proved something.
      Some skepticism is fine, but if you go into it thinking there's no way this is real, then nothing will come out of it.
      You can have a hyper-detailed form an personality, but that won't be anything more than an idea if you don't believe in their sentience.

      Advice for Tulpamancers, Top Ten
      1. (29) Believe in yourself and in your tulpa. Trust your tulpa, and assume they are there! This is the key to success above all else.
      2. (17) Be regular about your forcing sessions. Spend time and talk with your tulpa. If you are wondering about whether to force or not, force more! Always keep forcing, and do not be afraid to work on your tulpa too much. Don't make your tulpa wait for you. Do your best to reach out to them as often as you can. Pay lots of attention to your tulpa. Devote consistent attention to your tulpa. Do not neglect your tulpa. Listen closely if you think they are trying to talk. Be prepared to share everything with them.
      3. (15) Don't be mean, or scornful towards your tulpa. Don't treat your tulpa like a doll or imagine they are 'just an aspect of yourself'. Treat your tulpa as one of your own family, as a close friend. Don't stifle their development based on your preconceived notions. Recognize your tulpa as existing as soon as possible. Treat your tulpa like a sentient being. Be honest with yourself, and your tulpa. Tell your tulpa exactly what they are from the start; don't keep it a secret from them. Be kind to your tulpa.
      4. (12) Stay dedicated to your tulpas creation. Take it seriously and do not quit. Never, ever give up, no matter what! Be persistent, stay consistent, and do not lose faith.
      5. (10) Go with the flow. Do what you think is right, what feels natural and comfortable. Enjoy the process, and every minute spent with your tulpa. Have fun!
      6. (10) Be patient with the process. Don't worry about rushing through, and go at your own pace, and do not worry about hour counts.
      7. (9) Do not worry, seriously! Do not fear anything. Don't stress over the process, or be discouraged.
      8. (8) Love your tulpa with all your being!
      9. (3) Avoid distractions for unimportant things. Stay off the internet and IRC if you have to. Get that forcing time in!
      10. (2) Be confident in your tulpa, and in yourself.

      Other advice for tulpa creation
      Give your tulpa lots of hugs.
      Force with an open mind.
      Let your tulpas thoughts flow into you.
      Take everything you get with enthusiasm.
      Make a wonderland.
      Give you tulpa a familiar form (makes it easier to visualize)
      Work out personality.
      Get involved with the community early on.
      Think about what you are trying to achieve and think about how to achieve it.
      Drink orange juice (it has helped many tulpamancers concentrate better.)
      Include compassion as a trait.
      Be open to new experiences.

      What to do if you get stuck (Educating Yourself)
      If something isn't working... try something new!
      Ask questions if you need to.
      Read the guides, but tweak them so they work for you.
      Try out your own things.
      Read everything you can.
      Remember all your successes (maybe keep a tulpa journal.)
      Go by what the people in #Tulpa Info chat say.
      Adjust your self and your tulpa and try different things.

      Comments about tulpa creation
      It's hard to mess up.
      There is really no wrong way to make a tulpa.
      If you feel something.. there is a high chance it is your tulpa.
      You literally cannot mess up.

      About forcing and tulpa creation
      Tulpa creation is easy to blow off, but trust me- you won't waste any time if you are determined from the get-go.
      It (Tulpa Creation) takes time but pays off exponentially in the end.
      It may be frustrating, but it's worth it.

      A few comments about tulpas
      Your tulpa is special.
      Your tulpa will come when they feel ready and have the chance.
      They are more sentient than you think.

      A few comments about parroting
      Do not think you are parroting.
      You are not parroting unless you do it on purpose!
      If you do, doubt and parroting are not deal breakers.
      Even more, if you’re parroting there’s a really good chance it’s your tulpa – especially if the words are coming out before you’re done with the sentence.

      When one creates a tulpa and a wonderland, they occasionally find themselves forgetting important but small details. The bigger the wonderland, the easier it is to overlook, or completely forget about a location or experience within it. The longer you have been tulpaforcing, the easier it is to forget about an important event in your tulpa's development. The more techniques you have tried, the easier it is to forget which one was the most effective for you.
      Sure you can just re-read your PR if you want to recount your experiences, but if you have been using your PR for a long time, then you'll have to sort through hundreds of your own posts (and sometimes the posts of others) to recall important events.
      I have found that to be an inconvenient method to recall experiences, so I got into the habit of documenting important events of my tulpa journey in a notebook/journal/diary (Whatever you want to call it). You can also do this virtually as well, but I personally prefer good ole' paper because paper doesn't require electricity.
      The tulpa journal is used to document all things pertaining to your tulpa, your tulpaforcing methods, and your wonderland. The purpose of having this journal is to supplement your PR, but it can also be used exclusively if you wish to do so. This is more of a better and/or different way to organize a PR. Below, is a list of all things you'd possibly want to remember, and you can include these things as chapters in your tulpa journal:
      Things to write down for quick and convenient recollection.
      1. Information about your tulpa: Their name, personality traits (optional), appearance, what they like to do, basically anything about who they are. This is probably going to be the shortest part of the journal.
      2. Information about your wonderland: Write down all locations, and all characteristics of the locations as well as what they are used for. Writing down the locations lets you expand your wonderland without forgetting about other locations over time. You can also document strictly wonderland-related anecdotes here.
      3. Create separate chapters including but not limited to: Visualization, Imposition, Narration, Forcing, Possession, Switching, and Focus & Concentration. If you use paper, then make sure that each chapter has an adequate amount of blank pages for long-term usage. Of course not everyone is interested in all of the subjects mentioned, so you are more than free to exclude or include whatever. Within these chapters, you'll list what techniques benefit you for the purpose of remembering to practice them in the future, and you'll write down events relevant to the aforementioned categories. Be sure to keep the events short and sweet.
      4. Within this chapter, you'll be documenting interactions with your tulpa, so you can call it whatever you want. If you are new to the tulpa phenomenon, then write down every sign your tulpa has given you that it exists. If you have a more developed tulpa, then write down quotes of what your tulpa has said, and/or any experiences/interactions you want to remember with your tulpa. Feel free to write down anything as long as it is relevant to what your tulpa has done or said to you.
      5. If you still have plenty of room, then the rest of the journal can be used for anything! Artwork of your tulpa or wonderland, conversations between you and your tulpa, the results of experiments or studies, anything! Be creative for this one! Hell, you can even use the rest of it as a dream journal. The possibilities are endless.
      Now I have to address some thoughts that are possibly running through your mind:
      What is the point in starting a tulpa journal?
      Organization, and recollection.
      What happens if someone who doesn't know about the tulpa phenomenon or looks upon the tulpa phenomenon negatively finds my tulpa journal?
      Well keeping secrets isn't a good thing, but the tulpa phenomenon is something that some people wouldn't exactly want to make public, unless perhaps you are a Tibetan monk. If you live with others and you need to keep your journal a secret, then make it virtual. Microsoft word, iPod notes, online document services, anything as long as it can be protected by a password/passcode. If you don't need to keep it a secret, or you prefer good ole' notebooks then use a notebook like I do.
      Final note: I believe that a tulpa journal would benefit those who strive to create tulpas because it gives people the ability to remember more things, and quickly recall them. Not to mention that organization is a useful tool for accomplishing a seemingly impossible task. I also believe that having things documented about your tulpa, and creating the journal itself is an action that makes your friendship with your tulpa more intimate. How, you may ask? Because you are taking the time to make a journal for your beloved tulpa.
