glitchthe3rd June 15, 2012 June 15, 2012 *ahem* YO GLITCH, GET OVER HERE! Dude, I've never had more than 3 at once, and even those weren't true tulpas. Now that I'm off my autism meds, I sometimes have trouble paying attention to two of them, much less five or some other outrageous number. Guest June 15, 2012 June 15, 2012 What ShyGuy65 said. I don't think there is any hard upper limit, don't forget what I mentioned about MPD. And rule of 7+-2 only limits your capability of simultaneous communication with tulpas. It's the same as with other people. If you have a party with 100 people, you will only have fun with some of them, and the rest will not matter, because you can't see, talk to all of them, even know about them. And I don't think you should ever be afraid of straining your brain. Thats just sounds ridiculous. Brain is not an intel processor and works differently. I don't know of any cases straining your brain after communicating with your subconscius, be it 1 personalization or group of entities personalized in your head. Dont forget that all the world and humans we think of as real in reality are creatins of our brain. Yeah, we use some data from our receptors. But most of information brain creates itself, otherwise we can't even predict will ball fall on the ground or fly, will be your dad surprised when he finds your pics with TS/AJ/AD in socks, will be there tomorrow or not. Thats not real world information, thats our brains simulation. And I don't remember ever straining my brain from this(maybe except dad and TS in socks). And ShyGuy65 is right again, the only problem you probably will face down on this road - lack of time for anything except communicating with your tulpas.
Guest June 15, 2012 June 15, 2012 ^ 100% of what this man says. You can't pay attention to all the tulpae at once; some will be present when others won't, so theoretically, many, many tulpae could be made. It's all about prioritization of attention.
Waterbijdewijn June 15, 2012 June 15, 2012 Dude, I've never had more than 3 at once, and even those weren't true tulpas. Now that I'm off my autism meds, I sometimes have trouble paying attention to two of them, much less five or some other outrageous number. Don't take autism meds again. Autism is not a disease, meds can't change your brain, only surpress your autism. Taking those meds surpresses your self. I don't take aspirin when I have a headache either. Not that autism is the same as a headache.. quidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur
glitchthe3rd June 15, 2012 June 15, 2012 What if I told you I use tulpae to compensate for my autism? And what if I told you that doing so eliminated the need for medication? "Science isn't about why, science is about why not?" -Cave Johnson Tulpae: Luna, Elise, Naomi My progress report

Apologies, i was referencing your servitors, which, while not tulpae, are similar. For Science!
jhon alen March 4, 2013 March 4, 2013 I cut off communication with literally everyone in real life, saving a quick grocery trip about once a month. A year or two ago I'd go a month or two without even seeing another person. Soon enough I'm going to hopefully be entirely disconnected from society once I buy some land. But that's for another thread. Sally Feinstein
mouse March 4, 2013 March 4, 2013 I'd argue it's not a true tulpa unless your mind is keeping a constant train of thought going for the other self at all times, regardless of whether the tulpa feels present or is talking to you at the moment, so the limit would come from this. Although I don't know where, and past a certain point I don't know how the mind would avoid having separate trains of thought 'run into' one another. After all, the brain runs on frequency. When a neural trace reaches the same point, isn't it always going to choose the same path based on the myelin sheaths and surrounding traces? So if you have too many streams of conciousness in your brain, eventually some would merge and it would only be beliefs about oneself ('I like the purple one, because I like purple!' Thinks this self, and the other one goes 'I like the flavour of the green one better.') Which may seperate them again. I would guess, although I do not know, that the perception of self/selves would begin to degrade. Which was the entire point of making a tulpa in the first place according to the monks, to demonstrate the illusion of self. Especially because in Buddhism one is supposed to give up beliefs about oneself and accept reality for itself. You may find this thread interesting; http://tulpa.info/forums/Thread-Complete-Isolation But, may I ask, why?
Ashikael March 4, 2013 March 4, 2013 I have two now, but when I was younger I had really bad social anxiety and spent most of my time isolated, and I had eight. I had a hard time keeping up with them all and some of them started acting depressed and/or very angry. I would like a few more, but I'd never go for eight again. I just don't have the mental concentration for that, I guess.
Lacquer March 18, 2013 March 18, 2013 Someone on the IRC said he had 25 tulpas. Of course, this is entirely unprovable, due to the nature of tulpas.
