Clementine September 10, 2014 September 10, 2014 The point of tulpamancy is introspection and meditation - however, many people do not use it for said purpose. A lot of tulpamancers don't know how to meditate and lack the skill to look at themselves from a 3rd person perspective. This is why you'll meet a lot of members that you can not take seriously - because they don't take this practice as seriously as you (the presumably "serious tulpamancer") do. This article (nor any other article) can't damage the practice itself, no matter how hard it tries to. It might ruin the reputation of tulpas - but, really, how good did you think this community's reputation was in the first place? I see people within the community saying that this community is "shit" all over the place, so it would be wrong to assume that this article changed anything, or that any type of news report Fox or any other news channel can make will make this community look any worse than it already does. Perhaps that's what you should be focusing on, instead of this article.
Guest amber5885 September 10, 2014 September 10, 2014 I'm actually gearing up to leave the community but I haven't yet had the guts to do it... Too many friends here BUT that Being said, I apriciate the people who see this as a tool for self development and growth, who take it semi seriously and who stick to the science of it all. Lately though the majority of what I'm seeing is attention seekers, children who think having a tulpa gives them magical powers, a massive influx of "OMG guys my tupper turned evil and brought its evil friends to try and kill me!!" or over paranoid 16 year olds who post 26 times in one day about the same thing. That stuff right there is what's going to destroy this community. I love the friends I have made and I do enjoy being helpful when I can but I can kind of see why other tulpa communities regard this one as a cess pool and steer clear of it. Just to clarify as well it's not that people post these things that's the problem, anyone is free to post whatever they want. The problem is instead of stepping and an explaining why something isn't possible, suggesting mental health care in some cases or simply deleting the troll posts members answer these questions, actively encouraging bad behavior (see: should I teach my tulpa to drive. Can my tulpa go to school in my place: can my tulpa heal my schizophrenia) these are not instances to answer with yes or no these are instances where someone should have some responsibility, step up to the plate and put these idiotic questions (note I didn't say people) in their place. The last thing we need is people doing bad things in the name of tulpas because a post on a forum said it was possible. We may be in this practice together but that doesnt mean we gave up logic and reasoning to do so.

Ayaze September 10, 2014 September 10, 2014 I'm a bit new here, and making a tulpa for serious matters, and amber thought b/c of bad phrasing and stuff that i was a troll, so this must be pretty serious. I hope this doesn't destruct.
Upper Class Twit September 10, 2014 September 10, 2014 From a PR point of view, this is damaging. From a learning point of view, this is misleading. From a journalistic point of view, its irresponsible. *sigh* Welp, I'd call this a failure on all regards. I'd say damage control is needed, unless we want to shut the fuck up about it. zerofox21898 September 14, 2014 September 14, 2014 I miss the old community so, so much. The thing I find the most embarrassing about this article is that it's mostly true. Congratulations! We're now reaching the public, and we appear as autistic nerds. I knew it would happen eventually, but this is just wonderful. Also, our public image is half clopper. Thanks bronies. I'm sure the Tibetans would be happy where we are now. But hey! For science! R-right guys? Tulpas Luna, Vanille
Mdnthrvst September 14, 2014 September 14, 2014 This thread is profoundly sad on so many levels. Get over yourselves.
Zarpaulus September 15, 2014 September 15, 2014 That article was actually how I found this site, there's a link in it. Though I came across the article in another forum, and there was a tulpamancer in that thread.
Pleeb September 16, 2014 September 16, 2014 From a PR point of view this is fine- remember the old saying, "even bad publicity is good publicity"- because in an emerging phenomenon, any publicity is good publicity. This sort of feedback is to be expected from the media. They like drama, they like shock factor. There's a reason why good news doesn't sell, people would rather talk about the negative. Even on this forum, there's plenty of talk about this article, yet tulpa.info was mentioned in an academic paper just a bit ago (on academia.edu, yet) and nobody bats an eye. Heck, I've just recently been interviewed by a professor who is writing a book on the subject, while other people I know are talking to people in their universities about tulpas. Nobody talks about this though, they're assuming the worst from the news media. Just like the new York times article, those who will read this will have a seed of interest planted in them. It's certainly not displaying us in the best light but subcultures rarely are. P.s. everyone hating on the bronies must have missed the furry on the head of that article :p Spoiler An image in a signature behind a hidden tag!

I can't agree. This may be true for companies which profit from a higher publicity by selling more products. But what do we sell here? And on the other side: If bad publicity leads to a bad reputation, you may suffer from that, because you have to hide your tulpa or be told e.g. a "freak".
