I can easily assume that the rain allowed him to swim to the 10th floor and then he took the elevator directly to the 20th.

Damn, that would be a lot of rain.

Most people when reading the riddle would think that there had to be something wrong with the stairs. To think outside of the box, you have to consider that rather than something being wrong, something might have actually gone right. In which case something wouldn't be physically limiting him, but rather a new and better option made him choose a different route.

You're on the right track, but not quite there yet. For the record, both the elevator and the stairs operate exactly the same in the rain as on other days. The elevator is not powered by water in any way, and it starts on the ground floor.

Gosh. This is a lot harder than it sounds. If it keeps going like this, I might need a hint.

Maybe there's something I haven't considered yet. The man, the number of floors, or the specifics of which floors he stops on.

I rescind my previous puzzle. Let's go for something a bit different:

A man lives on the twentieth floor of a building. Every day when he comes home, he rides the elevator to the tenth floor, and takes the stairs for the remaining ten floors -- but when it's raining, he takes the elevator directly to the 20th floor. Why?

TBH I hate these kinds of riddles. "Because he wants to exercise" seems just as valid of an answer as all the others. Why is whatever answer you have in your head 'correct' where as all the other perfectly reasonable answers. You've failed to tell us why they're wrong, and that's because they aren't, they're just alternate answers. At this point it's a guessing game. Same with the car with a ladder/apple/prisoner scenario.

Technically, that was a "what are you guaranteed to lose" V.S. "what can you possibly lose?" riddle. It was also solved rather quickly compared to this one.

Haha. Ok, the man does not just want exercise. Specifically you might look at why he takes the elevator to the tenth floor every sunny day, rather than taking the stairs to the tenth floor and the elevator to the 20th, or taking the stairs one day and the elevator the next.

Here's another hint: when he leaves for work in the morning, he takes the elevator to the ground floor no matter what the weather is like.

Christ in a handbasket, I think I have it. Obama's deathdate.

(If that riddle's not still open, I don't have to take the next riddle, but I just couldn't resist posting after I figured it out. Sushi, you are a beautiful mind.)

It's March 6th. Taft knows that Cleveland does not know the exact date. He also knows the month. Therefore, the month of Obama's death cannot have a uniquely numbered date. If it did, there would be a chance that Cleveland knew the whole date straight off. The 9th is unique to January, and the 8th is unique to February. Ergo, the month has to be either March or April.

Cleveland then gets this info, and knows the exact date. The date number can't be the 4th, because that is the one date number that both March and April share. If it were, then Cleveland would still have not known the month - but he does. It has to be the 5th, the 6th, or the 7th, as those are the dates that March and April do not share.

After he shares this, and this is critical, Taft knows the exact date. If Taft had been told that it was April, he wouldn't have known even after this, because he would have had both April 5th and April 7th from which to choose. Since he knows the exact date, it has to be March 6th - that's the only date that would make sense.

Haha! You got it! Take the next riddle if you like.

I didn't solve it cause I felt like I already knew the answer from here:

Is the tenth floor above the clouds?

Haha! I reworded it so nobody would google that, but it didn't occur to me that someone would already know it.

No, no floors are above the clouds. The weather doesn't affect the stairs or the elevator in any way.
