Because the glass itself remains cool and has the properties of a frozen liquid, no bubbles form in the water, essentially keeping the water from boiling.The instant anything introduces bubbles into the water, the water boils instantly and explosively. And of course explosions are always cool. (Except when things blow up in your face when you take a glass of water out of the microwave, causing permanent scarring and blindness.
