So, i'm wondering what the popular consensus on when to Impose one's tulpa is? My tulpa, Sapphire, is currently sentient. Naturally that includes vocal. So, is Imposition is a good idea currently? Or is the real question about the frequency of how often a tulpa talks, rather than if they talk?

I don't really think it makes a big difference when you start with imposition of any kind. I guess it helps when you reached a stable level with your tulpa so you can tell the difference without losing track, but beside that I would say simply go for it.

She may or may not talk here, depends on her.

Well, that depends on you and Sapphire.

Do what feels right to you.

Normally, Esterina was around nigh twenty-four seven. Visually, I mean, she was just there all the time, and I could hear her whenever she made a sound, even if I didn't actually try to listen, and her mind-voice came from that direction.

Thing is, while she's the one who projects herself into my vision, it was still something my mind had to process. So I developed a headache from all the nigh twenty-four seven imposing.

So we decided that we would go into "passive mode" whenever we're just in my room (she goes "into the back of my head", where I only hear her when I listen, she's not around visually, and her mind-voice comes from the lower back of my head).

The moral of the story: Do what feels right to you both, but keep an eye out for signs of mental strain. Don't overdo it.

Nobody is helped with that.

Exactly.

Imposition isn't a required skill for a tulpa/host to have, and technically speaking it has nothing to do with your tulpa's current progress either. You can start trying to imagine objects that aren't there whenever you want, as a mental exercise. Then switch to maybe imaginary animals that follow you around. Your ability to hallucinate (or at least, imagine) mental images in real life isn't dependent on your tulpa at all.

But uh, whatever point you feel comfortable at I guess. I was just thinking about imposition as I'm trying to get my tulpas more active again, and I came to the conclusion imposition wasn't worth practicing while they were still getting their bearings on casual awareness. IE, it felt like I was having a "dummy tulpa" follow me around half the time as my actual tulpa tried to keep up the self-projection onto said external imagined image. I decided it was a better idea to get them more comfortable with being around all the time again first, and then continue imposition again when they were more settled, I guess.

Take from that what you will. If your tulpa has no issues with its mental-space-inhabiting and seems ready, you can do imposition whenever. It requires the tulpa to associate themselves with the form you're imagining and maintain its perceived "distance" from you, so it might be a little hard for an underdeveloped tulpa, but overall I don't think there's any harm in it.

To that, I can actually say that I(!!) am bad at imposition.

As in, I can't imagine Rina to be there of my own accord without it being just that - my imagination, and not actually her. Not even puppeting. She can appear however she wants against my will (not that it IS against my will, but you know what I mean), but I find being the one to actually make her appear impossibly hard ._.

I don't know if I should envy other people who can make their tulpa appear when they want, or just be glad that Rina is so autonomous that she can just do what she wants. Or both.

It DOES make me feel like the main bulk of our progress is hers, not mine... ^^

I don't think he should feel bad about that. He does make progress.

Eh. ^^

Just some side trivia about my own experiences with imposition ^^

I still haven't after almost two years of tulpamancy. It's nothing needed and is a pretty hard concept to fully grasp and achieve. So nobody has to do it. Think of it as getting extra PC ram. You don't have to do it, but it helps in its own way.

I'm sure it differs for each person, but I think imposition is sort of work for my tulpas. After all, a tulpa isn't a physical person with a body and senses, that's stuff they have to uphold themselves. So when I'm imposing one of my tulpas, it seems like the bulk of the effort is on them to keep projecting themselves onto the image that.. I guess I imagine. But I hesitate to say that because my tulpa controls their actions, not me. Anyways, most people only think "Wow seeing things that aren't there must be hard", but there's more to it than that. For some tulpas, associating themselves with a hallucinated image outside of the body could be pretty difficult. But like most things, it gets easier with practice.

Any time is a good time. But bear in mind that imposition is a skill that requires mastery over all five senses. So try honing each and every skill separately to avoid "burning out" due to excess mental stress. As for the tulpa, make sure they see their form as an integral part of who they are, otherwise you'll get a pretty hallucination that can't do anything on it's own.

We're trying to impose and I can only keep a good visualization of her when I'm focused on it. I suppose it'd help you in the long run if you have a stable picture of your tulpa, but I'm going in with the mindset that my visualization will get better while trying to impose.

I'm not going to listen to you guys since you are all probably just talking to yourself and don't really have a tulpa like me.

I'd say you can start imposition anytime once you're sure that your tulpa is sentient and autonomous. That said, having a strong ability to visualize will greatly help you in the long run, so I would recommend improving that first, before trying. Having a stable perception of things in your imagination (like your tulpa's form and wonderland) would go along these lines as well.

I have 10 tulpas, but I'm only actively working on Reah, my first tulpa currently.
