And I've been getting Amber to class and taking care of things like eating and showering and sleeping. How exactly am I NOT being helpful? How am I not making a difference?

Isn't helping the host out with their job by switching or possessing (hell, even giving advice) helping to pay rent and put food on the table? Explain how it's not helpful. Please. I'd love to hear that one.

I doubt it makes much difference between someone who has a tulpa and someone who does not.  Besides, the time most people spend on creating a tulpa, they could get a master's degree or a Phd.  LOL   I am not impressed with this at all.  I am sorry.   I doubt my next employer will see it as a valuable skill on my resume.

Except the fact that she wouldn't get out of bed without me. You can't deny it has positive effects on people's lives. I don't see how you can be that ignorant.

Well hell, put it on her resume then.

As for me I will ulitmately take credit for everything that Melian does for me and I won't think others are missing the Melian edge for success.  They probably can motivate themselves without the crutch of an imaginary muse.  LOL

You're entering a losing, drama-filled argument here. I'd recommend against it. I was a hundred times more likely to end up dead than with a Master's had I never been helped by my tulpas. And I can tell you all about that if you want, but I've done it before.

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

Well hell, put it on her resume then.

I struggle often with a depressed host, and I don't appreciate you minimizing my efforts to keep us both alive. If it wasn't for me, she wouldn't even be around. How's that for making a difference?

Deep breaths, Niteo.

Great! I am really happy for you.

But, most people don't need a tulpa to survive and thrive and succeed. Most do fine without one. Most people would be see our bickering over who is better at making one and how much it matters as the most entertaining stupidity they have ever seen on the internet.

My imaginary friend did a lot for me too. But that is because I am an oddball social misfit and was kinda messed up in the head.

In most cases I can imagine it won't help you put food on the table or pay your rent.  You only have one body so people spare me the talk about your tulpa switching and having a second job or something to "make a difference in the world."  It is still one person having a second job.

Fair enough, you did say "most cases". As for the rest, you're forgetting not every host is as mentally or emotionally capable as one or all of their tulpas. In perfectly healthy systems, I get it, a host and a tulpa have about equal chance to make a difference in their life. But for a lot more people than you'd expect, tulpas help their hosts make differences in their own lives (me pre-switching), and then a few actually end up making differences through switching (me now). Not always, not in all cases. The switching to help is rarer. But the emotional help is very, very common. It makes a big difference.

I disagree. I think having emotional support helps everyone, regardless of mental health status. Sure, it helps the mentally unhealthy most, but I am of the opinion that it helps everyone. Who doesn't want someone to love them unconditionally? You can argue it's an illusion, but it's a helpful one at least.

You are missing my main angst with this thread and what I am trying to get at ultimately.

My first number one angst with it is this finger pointing that goes on in the tulpa community about who does it better is stupid.  There is no better way or right way to make a tulpa because it is so subjective and based on faith and imagination.

My second point is that tulpas are not that important in the real tangible world.  I personally do not think the tulpa should really get the credit in the real world for anything that matters.  I think the host ultimately gets the credit for everything the tulpa does.  I know you guys don't agree.  But to me the tulpa(s) and the host are ultimately functioning as one person in the real world.

It's the real world that you have to live in and real things are what matter most.

When I got my teaching credential, they did not credit Melian for anything.  I did.  But the real world does not.  THAT is my point.  How the real world perceives the importance of tulpas!  It is idiotic to strut about over them in the real world!

I doubt my next employer will see it as a valuable skill on my resume.
