We do need to clean up our dictionary if we want to be better received by the outside population. We're so accustomed to tossing around terms (wonderland and tulpaforcing in particular) that they don't seem unnatural to us, but in reality sound like metaphysicists talking about their energy auras. I think specific steps in the tulpa creation process like narration and visualization should be kept because they allow others to get a general idea of where you are in the process. But wonderland and tulpaforcing really should be replaced by something more descriptive and less insane sounding.

For wonderland, mindscape seems to be the best suggestion so far. Mind palace and dreamscape are terms that have already been coined on unrelated subjects. As for tulpaforcing, getting rid of the term all together and just saying you "worked on" your tulpa makes the most sense. Even if we officially change the usage of both terms, they're still going to be used by new users. We'll just have to kill it off like cutting the blood supply from a tumor until it falls off, shrivels up, and dies.

I rather enjoy the term tulpaforce, but yes, wonderland is a term that may make people turn away.

Me: Hey, say something for this thread!

Koharu: Yay, cupcakes!

mfw there are no cupcakes. Sentience? Yes. Brilliance? Ehh...

Or we could just keep the terms and call it a day. I think the website's layout and the blatant "For Science!" indicates enough that we don't particularly follow the supernatural perspective. A person lost because of the term 'wonderland' is a person who was nothing of value.

Agreed with Phi. If people can't handle terms like "forcing" or "wonderland", they're not worth bothering with. IMO, "mindscape" sounds just as insane as "wonderland".

I think we should stop saying 'tulpa' and just use the word 'imaginary friend'. It will cause less confusion with other people.

I say we use the multiple's terms and call them our head-mates.

Multiple official terms? Or a lot of slang terms, like Brain Bros.

I prefer the term imaginary companion over tulpa. It's straight to the point, while leaving out the question of sentience; a question whose answer is obscure until a Brain Bro is able to communicate and be heard effectively.

no, they're not imaginary, they're real.

Imaginary: Object of the mind

Real enough for the creator, to be sure, though they're still an imaginary being.

The terms are really fine as they are in general. If we keep Tulpa, a term mixed in with the metaphysics world, we may as well keep tulpaforcing.

and tulpamancer, on of my favorites. It's so silly to the point of being charming

I'd say the terms are fine. I think changing the word tulpa to imaginary friend would be stupid.

I have 10 tulpas, but I'm only actively working on Reah, my first tulpa currently.

Progress Report

Yes I agree, the terms we use are frightening to newcomers! Why, I remember when I first started browsing the site, I was nearly scared off at the use of "tupper". How about these welcoming new terms

Deviation = "friend morph"

Narration = "secret talk"

Tulpaforcing = "companion conjuring"

Hologram = "ghastly artifact"

Visualization = "figment production"

Vocalization = "channeling croons from the sixth dimension"

Name: Lyra

Sentience: Emotional responses, occasional brief vocalization

Currently doing: Personality & narration

Disregard my last post , this is what i'm supporting. I say make all these changes.

I thought this over, and I've decided we should consult some philosophers. They've a way with making their insanity look legit. Notice how impressive these all sound before you learn what they mean:

Thought Experiment: A term precisely meaning, 'hypothetical situation.'

Existential Nihilism: A confusing jumble of syllables that expresses non-belief in existence. Atheism is to god what this is to breakfast cereal, your phone number, the white house, and everything else.

Metaphysics: At some point in history there must have been a government agency dedicated to inventing myths, because this is exactly the sort of word you'd use if you wanted to make 'pulling things out of your ass' sound official. In fact, I think there's still a branch of government in North Korea called Yo Hishi Metaphysics Ku-Wong.

You see? Imagine how seriously people would take us if we put words like physics, experiment, or existential in them? Here, I'll try some:

Tulpa = Anomalous Personality.

Tulpaforce = Cognitive Dissemination.

Wonderland = Psychological Region

“There is not enough love and goodness in the world to permit giving any of it away to imaginary beings.”

You underestimate the hesitance of anyone with a reputation in science or psychology when it comes to phenomena as on-the-fence of metaphysics as tulpae are. If I were researching potential topics to study, and came across some forums packed the brim with basement dwelling asspies talking about sticking their dick in tupperware in their wonderland, and tulpaforcing pastel equine from a child's show as imaginary sex toys, I wouldn't bother to research any further. We need any edge we can get if we want to get any decent research or funding.
