Help me find a voice

Recommended Posts

Throughout my entire existence, I've never been able to find a good voice for myself. Most of the time I just use the body's voice but adjusted in certain ways to make it more "me." I kinda want to start using my own unique voice though, but I don't really know how to find one. So I'm asking you guys.

Here are my requirements:

- Male in 20s, preferably white but other races are fine too

- Calm, collected, thoughtful-sounding voice/low voice

- No accents

- Nothing cartoonish or too "anime," has to be natural-sounding

- Nothing too deep but nothing high-pitched either, somewhere in the middle

To give you an idea, I've previously considered the voice of L from Death Note, but decided against it

Link me interviews, voice acting videos, whatever. No songs though since those aren't the easiest to get a speaking voice out of.

Maybe you can find a youtuber you like... One who talks a lot, maybe one who does video essays. Out of the ones I listen to, the calm and thoughtful ones tend to be British, though. Hmm, try Ahmed Aldoori? He's an art youtuber, speaks calmly, American accent, cool guy...

Or this guy, artist again, Canadian I think, speaks calmly:

@Ranger He has an accent and I kinda want to avoid those.

@Yukari Hmm, that first voice I like. I'll try listening to his videos. Definitely on the right track with that one.

There's just... SO many possible voices, I don't even know where to start. Can't you guys just, you know, look around Youtube or something?

This guy is cool, voice might be slightly different depending on the time and place/video (those two should be similar)

DidYouKnowGaming has tons of random guys voicing their videos you could look through.

Then, I don't know...

, who has an accent but I think qualifies... There's just too many different kinds of voices. I feel like it's a waste of time to pick one or two of the hundreds to give you as opposed to you just looking on your own, because you'll know exactly what you do or don't like, but we won't.

Edit: Or not.. whatever.

Hi. I'm one of Luminesce's tulpas. Unlike the others, I don't think I stand out too much from him personality wise.

I'm just special because "I'm a tulpa". So I don't think I've much to offer, here. I'm happy enough to just be with him.

Well, I wrote that when there were no real responses yet, but I probably wouldn't have if I'd seen the posts between first. Anyways, consider browsing DYKGaming if this thread's suggestions don't pan out, and you're entirely out of other places to look. They get guest voice actors (well, Youtube personalities) on to voice the videos frequently.

There's no such thing as speaking without an accent. Are you looking for something in the General American accent range? A lot of people seem to consider it very generic sounding, but since I don't speak it myself, it sounds pretty strongly accented to me (and more than a little unpleasant).

A very good interpretation of your text description to my ear is this:

though Ranger's suggestion of Arnold Vosloo actually sounds surprisingly neutral to me too in some interviews.
