Guest Anonymous August 23, 2012 August 23, 2012 I doubt that animals like cats or dogs would be capable of enough thought to create something of that mental magnitude (though something could exist). What the focus of my question is something capable of intelligent thought, like a primate. They can use sign language to communicate with us, and have demonstrated the ability to use tools. Could they create a tulpa? Or even a fictional animal like a fluffy pony, which is portrayed as capable of speaking english (though they are quite dim)?
Charles August 23, 2012 August 23, 2012 Not even close to intelligent enough to understand the concept itself, let alone devote the time and concentration required to achieve anything.

QB2 August 23, 2012 August 23, 2012 Maybe out of coincidence, in a crazy one in a million situation... but no, I don't see any animal being able to even grasp the concept. The above post does not contain facts. q2's the host, QB's the tulpa.
FigN01 August 23, 2012 August 23, 2012 Based on most animals' neurophysiology, no. The first thing they need is a massive amount of cortex to begin to have thoughts about imaginary companions. Most animals have basic neurological capacities responsible for survival only, so really deep thought is reserved for very few. Very, very few. But say a really smart animal like a chimp or dolphin could make one. Why would it? Intelligent animals live in large groups rather consistently, and a tulpa would require so much meditation and general antisocial behavior that it would put an individual at risk of being an outcast from its mates, or maybe food for a predator that happens upon it while the guy is working really hard on getting the tulpa's form down. That sounds ridiculous. Even in captivity, have you ever heard of an animal paying more attention to a void of thin air than it does to it's keepers? People are more readily a source of mental stimulation than a being that takes hours upon hours to begin to see or hear. Wouldn't happen.

Kadoh August 23, 2012 August 23, 2012 Why would a primate sit down and meditate when it could e throwing shit at things? many a time my cat has been all happy, then looked ff in the distance, as if seeing and hearing something only it can... Also my cat likes to tuck her legs under her and sit on my trampoline My opinions are all subject to change.
