TulpaCouple August 28, 2012 August 28, 2012 Just a few years ago, only a few people had heard of a tulpa, and those who had made one--on purpose or on accident--weren't too keen on sharing such a thing.. I mean, it sounds crazy if you don't know the whole story. Time passes, Creepypastas get posted, people mention on anonymous sites like 4chan that such a thing could be possible. Eventually tulpa.info would come into play and people had a community--and a reason to share their progress on their tulpa. So tumblrs and twitter accounts are made and even tulpas make their own blogs and journals. Lets say each tumblr had a chance of reaching ten individuals, and one individual of the ten showed interest in creating a tulpa.. Now say there are ten blogs. Or fifty. Say more and more of the blogs start from a skeptical person and goes through their journey until they have a sentient, vocal tulpa. The bigger a group we are the more people we will end up reaching. It is a bit exponential that way. So with how many individual places currently mention tulpas and bring people here, it is no wonder there is such a sudden booming growth of new members. Now I don't think tuppers are ever going to be a common thing. But it just makes sense that we will see more members per month with the current member size than we would when there were only thirty or so members.

Weird0 August 28, 2012 August 28, 2012 Tulpacogiatarianism, from the word, cogiate. Flows off of the tongue rather nicely, doesn't it? I cant say that, its perfect! I've seen many subcultures spreading out of boards like 4chan. I guess its a pretty effective way nowadays to spread some topics to form communitys around it. Also Tulpae are a very interesting concept, isnt it? They say great science is built on the shoulders of giants - not here. At Tulpa.info we do all our science from scratch; no hand holding.
Pleeb August 28, 2012 August 28, 2012 Ahh, this conversation again. I've gave my input on this over and over throughout this community, especially in the IRC, I'll bring it up here. First, this image: That, my friend, is a bell curve. An exponential distribution. When tulpae started building momentum on /x/, and eventually the other boards, I had a strong feeling that popularity would grow through the normal distribution. That's why when I created these forums, I designed them with multiple boards to handle a large inflow of users. Of course, several members at that time didn't think they were needed, so eventually we pruned most of these boards (I have a quote from FAQ_Man, to paraphrase, "I would be surprized if this ever grows past 100 members" -- that was about 2-3 months ago, iirc). The above graph can be applied to any population (we're probably almost at 13.5% awareness on 4chan, and probably less than 0.01% when it's applied to the general population). Regardless though, the increase of awareness will continue to grow exponentially and the amount of members here will grow; further, more and more people will continue to know about tulpae. I'm also not actually advertising these forums; the news of tulpae are spread via word of mouth. You all know how obsessed I am about SEO, right? That's because once someone starts looking into tulpae, they end up usually finding this place. In other words, tulpa.info is just riding the wave (you can read my comments, as well as the discussion topic, on this thread: It's time to get serious). As for what I expect next? People keep saying in previous discussions on this, "We'll never see tulpae hit mainstream in our lifetimes." I disagree for the same reason I disagreed when people said "This will never get big." (those same people are now saying, "I had no idea this would get this big!" and some --including FAQ_Man-- have left the community because they were intimidated by the growth). Once that graph begins really being expanded to the general population, and once we get past 16% of the general population, we will hit the tipping point and notice a vast increase of awareness of tulpae. There's already several people on the social media sites (e.g. twitter) talking about their tulpae. The tumblr pages are lighting up to, so are the chans, and other various web boards. Tulpa.info was on the radio, and in the IRC there are at least 30 sentient and vocal tulpae chatting either through proxy, possession, or switching -- this is after 4 months, with some of those tulpae being only two months old or younger. By those numbers, I expect there to be hundreds of sentient tulpae by the end of the next five years. If I consider things to move exponentially instead of linearly (which I believe it is --and will continue to be-- the former), then we're talking possibly thousands. Apply that to the next ten years; or further, the next 20 or 30. Gives you a lot to think about, doesn't it? Spoiler An image in a signature behind a hidden tag!
Guest Anonymous August 28, 2012 August 28, 2012 I'm assuming most people weren't around at the time, but we had a pretty massive growth of interest in tulpae on /x/ roughly 2-3 years ago before it died back down. For about a year I and roughly 5 other people were the only ones who had anything more than a passing interest in tulpae. We had threads up almost 24/7 on /x/, with maybe a handful of people attempting to create one. There were two people who claimed to have had a completed tulpa, but their methods were very different from each other, as there was no established method at the time. For the majority of the time before it truly became popular, most people apposed it, and every other post was opposition with the same "schizophrenia" argument. But as the threads went on, more and more people began considering it something more than just schizophrenics talking about their hallucinations. Within the span of about a month, the amount of people interested began to exponentially increase. We began establishing a central method (that is now obsolete), and there were 50-100+ people attempting to make a tulpa. With more creation, there came more success stories, which caused others to pick up an interest. By earlier 2010, tulpa threads remained active, sometimes for up to 3-4 days before 404ing and another being created. While all discussion of tulpae was kept within 1-3 threads, on a single board, there was quite a large amount of activity. By this forum's standards, it was sub-par, but at the time it was amazing how much traction it picked up. Sadly, as is the nature of /x/, the shit winds picked up, bringing in shit bats and shit wolves. Slowly the threads slid down the shit rope as roleplayers, tripfags, and trolls moved in. The threads went from active discussion about creating tulpae, to avatarfags talking about how their tulpa helped them astral project into the astral plane where they met up with other roleplayers and had parties. They loaded up a hair-trigger double-barrel shit machine gun, with the barrel pointed right at us. More and more legitimate people left the threads and abandoned the whole idea of tulpae, believing it to have been pseudoscientific bullshit from the beginning. By mid to late 2010 everyone (including me) abandoned the whole thing altogether as the shitliner docked in port. We never looked back. Then the /mlp/ threads came, and revived it from it's shit grave, with tulpa.info working as the catalyst. Now here we are.
Oguigi August 28, 2012 Author August 28, 2012 well, Pleeb and LucidAcid. that pretty much as complete of an explanation as it gets, idk if you want to save your comments for other people like me that may be wondering the same thing in the future. and i agree /mlp/ is almost the perfect group of people to expose this idea too. pix: Link Diary: http://ponystasha.tumblr.com Koomer.
