I'm a bit skeptical, but only because I haven't tried it. Like Pronas said, it could be a different kind of lucid dream, but also a bit different. During astral projection, you experience many of the same things that you would in a lucid dream. It's the belief that makes a difference. If you go to bed believing that you're going to have a lucid dream, chances are you will. If you go to meditate thinking you're going to project yourself astrally, you probably will.

I have little knowledge of astral projection, but this makes the most sense from what I know.

I'll add a set of "believe in projection not the astral plane" with tried it and accomplished it as soon as I can figure out how to edit this goddamn poll

Is it even possible?

Oh god I'm so stupid

Why isn't this in the Meta board?

I completely forgot about meta

Thanks for the move, O mysterious mod

Also I'm stoned and all that reading seems like too much work

Ban me if I ever mention Telecasters again.

I think it's just a lucid dream. During astral projection, you could go outside and read a billboard you've never seen before, and then check it when you wake up. If what you remember is wrong (or the billboard didn't exist in the first place), then it may have been a lucid dream.

Hmm, been meaning to try a similar experiment, but all my trusted sources are telling me that astral projection, contrary to popular belief, is not all fun and games. And with my annoying condition, I can't risk most of the apparent dangers. It'd be interesting to see some simple experiments done on it, even if it's by others.

So, in true pissed Waffles fashion, I shall light the way with the mendacious glory of pseudo-science!

Hypothesis: While astral projecting in the lower levels of the Astral realm, one can observe something previously unknown to the projecting subject.

Apparatus:

  1. Two (2) test personnel
  2. One (1) standard bic ball point pen -colour irrelevant
  3. One (1) standard A4 sheet of paper

Experiment: Subject one will be forced into a separate room from subject two, where it is essential that after the experiment commences, neither has any form of communication, visual or otherwise, however subject two must have knowledge of subject one's location. Proceed to ask subject one to write down a word on the paper, the word must be a new thought from any point after confinement. Next, ask subject two to astral project and relay the word. Repeat as many times as possible.

Should the results be correct to two (2) sigma, then the hypothesis may indeed be correct, should it not, then the case should be closed, or repeated with a different pair of subjects.

Notes: Two subjects without relations to each other are advised.

As well as two you don't mind loosing to an acclaimedly terrible death.

I'm actually attempting it on a regular basis. I reserve belief until I achieve some results, but until then I don't see why I should rule it out completely. As for the stereotypical representation of an Astral plane, I don't know what to think. Numerous people have told me details that comply with each other, and repeatability is a core aspect of science and therefore a way for me to believe it. I'd just like to get some personal experience with it and definite, reportable proof. I'll let you guys know if I manage to project, although whether you can believe the proof I provide is understandably up to you.

Astral projection is bullshit. The tests done to prove/disprove it have show repeated results, and the results were that it was fake. You can 'leave' your body, but it would the same as a lucid dream. If you walk around your house out of body, you will see the house as if you were walking around, but you would be unable to see current events happen or see things you haven't previously witnessed. For more info, see the OOB black box project.

Let's focus on the matter at hand, shall we?

Once again talking science in the non-science section of the forum. That sir, is bullshit. You can insult us anywhere else on the board but not here. Stop reading threads that threaten your prejudices.

The better question is how to consciously astral project. I think we all have out of body experiences. We just can't remember them.

The thread is asking for his opinion on astral projection and he gave it without once insulting metaphysics, I fail to see the problem here. Was he supposed to not back his opinion up with his thoughts or reasoning? I'm sure this would be a mighty helpful and intriguing thread if everyone responded with just the word yes or no and left it at that.

I hope you do realise these close-minded responses are the reason nobody takes this section of the forum seriously, not that you believe in 'magic' of some sort. The thing that makes what you said even worse is the fact that you are complaining about people being intolerant in this section of the forum while being intolerant yourself.

I was shit on in the research forum, so I guess I am shitting back. He uses words like "tests" and "results". Those words infer science. Secondly, since when is "bullshit" a complementary word? Or a respectful word? He didn't say astral projection was the shit, he said it was bullshit. I am just following your rules. If you slap me, then I slap back. That's how this outfit works right? I am just trying to fit in.
