ImLuc June 5, 2012 Share June 5, 2012 I didn't say by force. If you don't give access to your subconscious, of course it can't do anything. And since tulpae are so deeply entwined with the subconscious, they have a much easier time getting around it and getting access to it than we do. This should be made obvious by how they can impress upon the senses, and following form what Jake said, how easily they can alter the subconscious. Altering the subconscious can be a huge ordeal and/or pain in the ass, but tulpae can do it pretty easily. Anyways yes; forcefully is a bit ridiculous since you would need to give them access in the first place. And yes, since tulpae are so deeply connected with the mind they have great ease messing around with doing things with it. That's a lot of implying there. I actually don't think tulpae have anything to do with the subconscious. Example is that you can not give them access to any of your memories, and they still function as normal but have their own memories, where is your god now? I mean, if they were truly subconscious, wouldn't they have your sex drive and everything too?
ThatOneGuy June 5, 2012 Share June 5, 2012 And where do they keep those memories? In the part of the subconscious partitioned off for them. Anyways, they don't share your sex drive or things like that because their mind is not connected to that part of the subconscious. You have to think here; we are literally creating another mind that shares the same subconscious. The sex drive belongs to our conscious. If you wanted to connect it with the tulpa's conscious, however, then you could. Thus they could share it if they chose to do so. Pretty much, they can stick to their own little piece of subconscious if they want. Orange juice helps with concentration headaches.

If you want to use shitty freud terms then at least know what you are talking about. It's a basic primal urge for most living things, they should share it if they are your subconscious. Also, it should be impossible to have two with totally different personalities if they are simply "sub-conscious".
ThatOneGuy June 5, 2012 Share June 5, 2012 Actually you know what screw the illustration. Yes, I know that sex drive is subconscious. But listen here; the conscious mind is connected to it's own part of the subconscious. Making a tulpa is like making yet another conscious mind to connect to the subconscious. It has its own little piece that is separate from our piece, and thus doesn't have a sex drive and the like unless it chooses to. You see, they (or us) can take that sex drive and connect it with their piece of the subconscious, thus making it affect their conscious. Multiple conscious minds, all using one subconscious. Sort of like multiple personalities, except instead of acting them out we give them form and hallucinate them. Orange juice helps with concentration headaches. FigN01 June 5, 2012 Share June 5, 2012 Ok, tulpa neurophysiology 101 here. This is your brain: For a tulpa to be fully imposed and sentient, there must be certain portions restructured to allow it to appear to you. Namely, the sensory cortex (so you can sense it), occipital lobe (see it), temporal lobe (hearing/memory), and lateral orbitofrontal (emotions relative to your tulpa). It likely has a presence in other areas as well. In possession, you would be allowing the neural pathways of your tulpa to gain control over most of the motor cortex and cerebellum, as well as the parietal lobe for spatial recognition. The inner area of the brain is the most basic, and what drives the regulation of your body, instincts, sexual drive, hunger, thirst, etc. I doubt a tulpa would be able to control any part of the inner brain because it is so fundamental for survival compared to the rest that not even you could consciously alter it. This all means that the tulpas are allowed to use some parts of the brain while you have control over the majority of it. The 'subconscious' doesn't lie in any particular area, but instead all over the brain. Until you forfeit your entire cortex to a tulpa, if that's even possible, then you have more access to it than the tulpa does. Allowing it to control motor functions is probably a big step towards giving over control, and that might be a certain tipping point in this whole complete possession thing. Anyway, this talk of conscious and subconscious stuff is too metaphysical for my tastes, and I think it's good to have a grasp of hard science to have any idea of what's going on. ThatOneGuy June 5, 2012 Share June 5, 2012 Thank you, I don't really know much hard science about the brain, just loads of bull shit theoretical stuff. Orange juice helps with concentration headaches.
FigN01 June 5, 2012 Share June 5, 2012 Read up on portions of the brain on wikipedia if you want. I just gave the basics here, and there's plenty more that's way over my head to pretend to be an expert on.
ThatOneGuy June 5, 2012 Share June 5, 2012 Well, I got some more information. All I have to say is that this makes loads more sense now. I can't release what I know, but I have to say that Jake is assuredly not trolling right now. Orange juice helps with concentration headaches. Seriously, him not being able to control himself, thats just ridiculous.
