Aw, damn, "R," that's a great one! I hadn't even thought of it, despite King's and Taylor's albums permeating my childhood.

I approve.

Holy hell. How did I totally forget about Charlotte Gainsbourg's collaboration with AIR?

Tonight's a two-fer, for the ladies:

AIR/Charlotte Gainsbourg - Morning Song

[video=youtube]

Last night I saw a ghost

He seemed familiar to me

I welcomed him with open arms

He said my name and laid me down

Awoke the dreams still sleeping in my bones

You are my precious ghost

I close my eyes to see

I've touched you once again

He spent the night with me

Guilty were our pleasures

Nameless was our crime

Come back my forbidden ghost

One more time

You must leave I understand

So tell your lie to me

How in the morning everything will be alright

Yeah, but to get to the morning

First you have to get through the night

AIR/Charlotte Gainsbourg - Everything I Cannot See

[video=youtube]

I feel you all around me

You are everything I cannot see

As the ocean crawls onto the shoreline

So you lap at the edges of me

And now, as I'm walking

I know that you're watching me move

For as much as I need you

I must walk away from you

You're my life, you're my hope

You're the chain, you're the rope

You're my god, you're my Hell

You're the sky, you're my self

You're the reason I'm living

You're all that I have to discover

You're the rain, you're the stars

You're so near, you're so far

You're my friend, you're my foe

You're the miles left to go

You are everything I ever wanted

And you are my lover

So I carry, I carry the flowers

The flowers that are dead in my hands

They will rise up at the very sight of you

They will naturally understand

That today is the day

That we find out once and for all

Now you know I must leave here

You must let me stand or fall

[Chorus]

If I leave will you follow

Can I put my faith in you

Chorus]

And I love you now

As I loved you then

But this island life

Just had to end

But you will always be

My special friend

I will carry you with me

And we can love again

Now the drizzle

Soaks us to the skin

And the stars hang like a noose

So let's face this together

Now this storm is finally through

[Chorus]

Animate, by Rush

(It's about a Jungian Anima, but I think an Anima can be a tulpa, too)

Goddess in my garden

Sister in my soul

Angel in my armor

Actress in my role

Daughter of a demon lover

Empress of the hidden face

Priestess of the pagan mother

Ancient queen of inner space

A man must learn to gently dominate

Good on you for listing that Rush one, never made that connection before.

Here's one that occurred to me back around the time that I discovered tulpas.

I suppose the connection is tenuous at best, but it makes sense to me in the context of my tulpa, especially since she's role-played as a ghost a few times before-- A ghost that only I can see and feel and communicate with. The most awesome kind of ghost.

Lyrics:

There is a person living in my head

She comes to visit every night in bed

I fight the demon, but it just won't fall

The voices in my dungeon starting to call

The spiders dancing on the wall

Suicide of love we could have had it all

And it is you, you are the ghost behind my eyes

The ghost that tells me lies

The princess of the dark has made my mind home

My haunted head and her won't leave me alone

She dances on my heart with fire in my soul

I hate that feeling when I'm loosing control

The spiders dancing on the wall

Suicide of love we could have had it all

And it is you, you are the ghost behind my eyes

The ghost that tells me lies

I wish to god that I could sleep

again, oh peace again

And wake up from this nightmare

Free again

Free again, oh me again

There is a woman living in my head

She comes to visit every night in bed

The spiders dancing on the wall

Suicide of love we could have had it all

And it is you, you are the ghost behind my eyes

You, you are the ghost behind my eyes

You, you are the ghost behind my eyes

Behind my eyes

The ghost behind my eyes

Both are stretches and don't reference imaginary friend and the likes. If anything, it's fun to apply double meanings to songs. Though, lines like, "look past your doubt" really get me.

[video=youtube]

You might lose your faith in science.

You might lose faith in wealth.

You might lose your faith in Jesus,

or lose faith in yourself.

But, when I let you down,

look past your doubt.

Just, please, please,

don't lose your faith in me.

You could lose faith in music,

or lose faith in your friends.

You could lose your faith in breathing,

feel trapped in your own skin.

Oh, but I'll be right there beside you,

when the walls are caving in.

Oh, I'm not going anywhere.

But, when I let you down,

look past your doubt.

Just please, please,

don't lose your faith in me.

Please don't lose your faith in me.

Oh,Oh,oh....

I'm not going anywhere.

But, when I let you down,

look past your doubt.

Just please, please,

don't lose your faith in me.

Please don't lose your faith in me.

I'm not going anywhere.

I was there when you were lonely

I was there when you were bored

I was there when you were feeling scared

and you were not sure what for

I was there when you found out

and you were madder than hell

You were scared, I was scared, we were scared

but I did not let that show

'Cause you got me if you want me

(Hey!)

You got me

It's right where I should be

I was there when you were worried

I was there when you were sick

I was there when you were positive

this was not happening

I was there with your father

Oh, he was madder than hell

He was scared, you were scared, I was scared

but I did no let that show

'Cause you got me if you want me

(Oh!)

You got me

It's right where I should be

You got me if you want me

(Oh!)

You got me

It's right where I should be

You said "It's my body boy, not your body"

"Look here, for Christ's sake... we're just kids!"

You said you didn't want to do it alone

Well who's to say you'll have to do it alone?

I was there when you were lonely

I was then when you were bored

I was there when you were feeling scared

and you were not sure what for

You got me if you want me

(Oh!)

You got me

It's right where I should be

You got me if you want me

(Oh!)

You got me

It's right where I should be

I was there when you were lonely

I was there when you were b-b-bored

I was there when you were feeling scared

and you were not sure what for

I was there when you found out

Oh, you were madder than hell

I was scared, you were scared, we were scared

But I did not let that show

I have to politely disagree. I myself said the connection wasn't very strong, but "someone living in your head" sure sounds a lot like a reference to some form of imaginary friend or a tulpa to me, even if the rest of it is a bit of a stretch.

The Rush song is about a Jungian Anima, which in my opinion may or may not ALSO be a tulpa.

I know a couple of people whose Animae have developed into full-fledged Tulpae.

And it's still a really cool song. :-)

I was not talking about your songs but the ones in my post. That's my bad, I should've made it more clear.

Ah, awkward moment. Heh. No worries, anyhow. Sorry for getting mixed up, I should've read more carefully.

Leaping back to the mid 1960s, I thought of another, older tune that sort of works. Taken as a whole, I guess it's fairly clear that the lyrics are more about an unfaithful ex-lover than a tulpa, but viewed through the warped eyes of a host, the majority of it reminds me of my attempts to explain tulpas and describe my tulpa to the two friends I can trust with my secret.

The Zombies - She's Not There

Lyrics:

Well no one told me about her, the way she lied

Well no one told me about her, how many people cried

But it's too late to say you're sorry

How would I know why should I care

Please don't bother tryin' to find her

She's not there

Well let me tell you 'bout the way she looked

The way she'd act and the colour of her hair

Her voice was soft and cool

Her eyes were clear and bright

But she's not there

Well no one told me about her, what could I do

Well no one told me about her, though they all knew

But it's too late to say you're sorry

How would I know, why should I care

Please don't bother tryin' to find her

She's not there

Well let me tell you 'bout the way she looked

The way she'd act and the colour of her hair

Her voice was soft and cool

Her eyes were clear and bright

But she's not there

But it's too late to say you're sorry

How would I know, why should I care

Well, we've amassed 35 songs related to imaginary friends, ghosts, animas, paracosms, and other experiences related to the tulpa phenomenon. Now I want to create a solid 8tracks playlist consisting of the top 10 most relevant songs posted here.

Would anyone like to help choose?

I'm going to need to listen to them, because honestly I've only ever heard two of them. Though I find it interesting the interpretations people have of "She's not There". To me, it always seemed to be describing an "imaginary" person.

Of course, I have to vote for the Rush song since I added it to the list. :-)
