DISCLAIMER-Before I begin, please note that some of the things I describe here may not be widely accepted by the non-spiritual. By non-spiritual, I mean a person who does not believe in the spiritual world. Do not take this guide as solid fact, as it is a "guide" and not a "rule". If you are not at least a little meta-physically minded, this probably isn't for you.

I have re-written most of this guide for sake of clarity, and in honor of the criticism and suggestions made in the comments. You will notice some quotes in the comments contain material that was once in this guide, but was rewritten.Thank you, Tulpa community, for making this guide better and more comprehensible.

WHAT IS A "SAFE PLACE"?

A "safe place" is an imaginary world created with the mind. Yes, that is essentially what a wonderland is. However, I will not be using the term "Wonderland" in this guide, because I want to point out some major differences that set apart the traditional "safe place" from "wonderland".

(SYNONYMOUS TERMS FOR SAFE-PLACE:

World between worlds, Spirit Sanctuary, Departure Point.)

Traditionally, "safe-places" are used in Shamanism, as a place to go to access other worlds. Namely, the Underworld, Middle World, and Higher Realms. For sake of clarity, I will describe these three worlds briefly. The Underworld is a place of pure beauty. It is a nature paradise. It is used for contacting spirit-guides, finding power animals, soul retrieval, to name a few. The Middle world is the "Lower Astral Plane". It is a world similar to ours. Cities, People, etc. The Upper World is a place for learning, receiving information, and contacting teachers, and healing energy.

A safe place can obviously be used as a wonderland. However, I would recommend NOT sharing your safe-place, or even your wonderland (for those of you who already have a wonderland) with anyone. Especially on the internet. From a shamanic viewpoint, "evil" sorcerers, negative entities, and any spirit-traveler can access your safe-place if you open the door by describing it. No, I am not trying to induce paranoia, I am simply warning you that, from a spiritual POV, of course, there are in fact evil spirits and wicked people in this world who can, and will, try to cause you harm.

CREATING A SAFE PLACE

(NOTICE. You are probably already familiar with the process of creating a wonderland. However, I will still take the time to describe it here).

First, get comfy. Relax, slow your breathing. Then, imagine a scene. Not a place from the real world. But your own, peaceful, beautiful place. If you want access to the 3 worlds I mentioned, then include caves, or earth-openings (for underworld access), a fog, or similar mist, (middle-world), and an opening in the clouds, or mountain that reaches above the clouds, (upper world).

Try to indulge all of your senses. Do this for 10-30 minutes at least, if not more. If you lose concentration, just gently bring your focus back to where you left off, and continue.

Your safe place, or wonderland, will solidify the more you use it. That means the more often you go there, the easier it will be to see it.

That's really all there is to it.

SUMMARY :

A safe place is different from a wonderland in that it is private, and is used for many purposes. A safe place should never be shared with the public. A safe place allows access to other worlds. A safe place can be used as a wonderland. A safe place solidifies the more you use it.

This only tells us how to build a wonderland. I don't see anything different from building wonderlands. Usually when people talking about making places for themselves in realms they at least start with astral projection. With these directions, it is like saying that everyone that has a wonderland already has a literal constructed safe place.

As for people describing their wonderland... they haven't actually made a "safe place" and nothing's going to enter but them and what they put in there. A visualization in their mind's eye. I say keep putting up those maps, and don't shake your visualization by imagining things entering after paranoia from reading this post ^^

My lip hurts.

Do NOT give away descriptive information of your safe place to anyone. If you do, other people can easily access it, (if they know what they're doing). By telling other people about your safe place, you are opening the door for negative entities and other people to enter. Essentially, you are allowing someone or something the opportunity to cause you harm. (From a spiritual point of view).

You lost me at this part.

So, lets say I told my friend a description of my 'safe place', how in the world would my friend be able to access it? How could other people enter something in my head?

Furthermore, this just sounds like a guide to make a secret wonderland.

My guide on tulpa creation

Well, wonderland guides are in short supply at the moment. We have kerin's Memory House guide, Irish's guide, one post in my PR, and now this.

Frankly, it looks like all the complaints about this guide are about how it's more metaphysically oriented than most guides. But there are a lot of metaphysically-minded people in the community, so I don't see that as a bad thing.

Would it be better if this guide were moved to the Metaphysics forum?

"'Real isn't how you are made,' said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you.'"

"So, lets say I told my friend a description of my 'safe place', how in the world would my friend be able to access it? How could other people enter something in my head?"

I warned in the post that those who are not spiritually minded would not agree with this. I believe that the wonderland you create also exists on the astral plane. And on the astral plane, you travel via thought. If someone knows enough about your wonderland, they can travel there via thought.

Nice intro on the subject, but it feels incomplete.

I want to hear more about this "underworld" that a safe place would give access to.

Here you go :)

We're calling it a "safe place" now? Ohboy

When I came to this forum, I thought the word wonderland was quite silly. I had never heard it before. I was more familiar with "Safe Place", or "Dream Haven".

Dream haven? Is that from Michelle Belanger's book? And out of curiosity, where did you learn this safe place technique? I'm sort of collecting information on wonderland-related ideas.

"'Real isn't how you are made,' said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you.'"

Shui. I did some extensive online research into Shamanism and even had a teacher, who was shamanic oriented. However, I cant find the specefic website I am looking for. I'll look into it more tomorrow, and try to provide you with some links . ;)

Meanwhile here's a few articles that just mention the safe place.

Hi guys! Heya folks, a good guide for "safe places" and wonderlands in addition to Psychological underworlds would be "Magical Use of Thought Forms" by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki and J. H. Brennan.

This book might be too meta for the average person on this site, but its information was practical and invaluable for the stuff you are talking about Dancing-With-Dragons.

For the rest who have views and beliefs other than mine, this book would still be useful because it is entertaining and as well and informative about the roots of the practice of creating tulpas and other thought forms. It also gives one interesting perspectives and possibilities on creating wonderlands or "memory palaces" and how to use them to explore the subconscious "underworld" as a psychological technique.

~Wielder of the Sacred Spatula~

Creating a safe place normally have nothing to do with Tulpas;

Then why post it in the tulpa guides section?

The creation process lines up almost perfectly with those found already on the forum.

Once again, why post this then?

Do NOT give away descriptive information of your safe place to anyone. If you do, other people can easily access it, (if they know what they're doing). By telling other people about your safe place, you are opening the door for negative entities and other people to enter.

"Other people can easily access it" is followed by "(if they know what they're doing)". This is contradictive. If something were easy, you wouldn't have to know what you're doing to be able to do it. If you need skill/experience, it's not easy. This sounds like a esoteric version of the wonderland with additional fear added to the story for extra security (just like parents tell their kids to eat their vegetables so santa gives them presents for christmas.) You tell people "make something in a place nobody can access, and don't tell anybody about it so you're 100% sure nobody can access it" a.k.a. "make an imaginary sekrit club for you and your tulpas" a.k.a. "make a wonderland". Only difference between this and a wonderland is that you're not allowed to describe it because muh demon invasions.

A safe place is different from a wonderland in that it is private, and is used for many purposes.

You give no examples of any purposes it has besides the obvious benefits of the wonderland + demon protection.

A safe place should never be shared with the public.
Once again, there is no reasoning given behind this. It is presented as a fact with no logic/school of thought to back it. I have no reason to accept this in the way it's currently presented.

A safe place allows access to the higher realms and underworld.
Same. The "a safe place does x" claims are repetitive and vague. If you're going to claim something, make sure you can explain it.

A safe place solidifies the more you use it.

What does this even imply?

Personally, I don't feel like this is a guide. More of a description of what a "safe place" (a.k.a. esoteric wonderland) is. You already state in the beginning of your post that making a safe place is exactly the same process as making a wonderland, and also say that that is why you won't go into too much detail about the process - even though the two are, according to you, different, but you never really explain why they're different. All you say is "It gives protections from unwanted entities and (apparently?) people who hear someone's wonderland description and decide to visit said wonderland to cause ruckus for no reason whatsoever."

Which is another thing - if I had the ability to visit other people's wonderlands, I'd be doing more than being consequential about them describing their safe place to me. But I digress - this doesn't belong in the Guides section. Please either make it more expansive and explain better what a 'safe place' really is or delete it.
