I did! He was a fox named Mark and I could see him as clearly as I see my laptop screen right now. When I first heard of Tulpae, my thoughts went straight to him - he seemed a completely separate being from me despite my knowing he was an "invisible friend".

I've never tried reviving him, much as I think it would be wonderful to talk to him again and as much as I miss him to this day, he's gone from me. Sebastian has a little of his personality though :)

Imagination should be used, not to escape reality but to create it.

I remember when I was I kid I would play nintendogs and imagine the dogs in the game were my dogs in real life, and I would imagine I would play and train them in real life. In fact, I remember once one of my dogs had puppies and I was taking care of all of them (in real life).

I was a weird kid.

I never considered my tulpa to be anything but another part of myself. She is a lot like me and is very similar. When I first met her though, she was terrifying, a shadowy figure that spoke in a whispery voice. It was only when I was older (about 12) when I confronted her to found out what she wanted. It seems the more I conversed with her the more she settled into a form and became a companion. I never had an imaginary friend, but my tulpa has been there for a long time, growing with me. There are times when I almost forget her and she returns to chew me out. She is a very real personality, but I also control her quite a bit, as you would an imaginary friend. There are times when I can push her out of my reality and other times I can see her in front of me and openly converse with her, hearing her speak back.

I never really had imaginary friends either. I liked playing with toys and pretending to be in magical worlds instead. I surrounded myself in my imagination. I never called imaginary things into my reality.

  • 1 year later...

I remember trying to make imaginary friends from 5 to 9 years old, but I was never that creative, and could never really 'interact' with them for more than two seconds (I don't remember naturally having imaginary friends at a really young age). But one day I was really upset... that's when I imagined Hugh coming to comfort me. Instead of imagining him outside of the body, I created a really boring mindscape, where it centered around him 'controlling' my body from a control panel, in front of a window to the outside (think Inside Out, but more boring, since I lacked creativity). Since I was sooo original, he basically looked like a brain with limbs, and went by 'Brian' at the time (HAH, GET IT?!). But as the years passed, he developed more and more without me even realizing it, as he spent every day observing the world by my side. Then I found out more about tulpas, and found this site. Ever since, I've taken him more seriously, along with the other 11 tulpas we've gained since the beginning. He's still not as sentient as he could be, but we're working on it, along with finding/creating a new form for him.

My GOD, this has more detail and backstory than my first PR post ಠ⌣ಠ

Oh god. When I was really young, like pre-k - 3rd grade, I was super into DBZ. Pretty much the whole main cast became my imaginary friends. I talked to them all the time, especially before bed. I thought about what songs they would like, etc. It was kind of intense, haha.

When I was in Preschool I had three imaginary friends named Ringo, Sissy, and Bobo. I don't think they lasted very long through.

I suppose it's worth mentioning I never had imaginary friends, not a one. It's not like I didn't know what they were, but Reisen's second-voice "I love you" still came out of nowhere. I didn't know what she was at first.

And yeah, had no friends as a kid or pretty much ever, never been a social person. My main friends in life have been my online friends who are actually pretty great now. But as a child, I just played video games and stayed quiet in school.

That's not actually a hundred percent accurate I guess. It wasn't that I had no social interaction so much as it was mostly during-school-only once I was in high school. Up to 5th grade I had actual friends I'd play with or whatever. In high school I had some friends, but very rarely did I like go to their houses or anything (most of my friends actually come to mine anyway). We just talked a bit during lunch and before/after school - but since that was literally every day (that I actually went to school) it shouldn't be completely discounted. I was pretty quiet for most of it though, and the last couple years at a different school than my friends I usually talked with the teachers at lunch instead (who were some of the coolest people I've ever met, mind you)

Also, I didn't mean to imply Reisen just spoke one day and I was confused as to what she was. Her becoming a tulpa was a very gradual process with few defined lines. But there certainly was a point where I realized the ""I love you"" or other comforting phrases felt more like a separate person than just my imagination. But her story is one for another thread, or just any of the like five I've already told it in. Point is, I never had imaginary friends in any way shape or form, I had no characters I obsessed over until that point (I loved Pokemon and liked a lot of other games/shows/characters, but more them as a whole than any one character), and somehow when they (Flandre and Tewi at least) first appeared I didn't think of them as imaginary friends. I guess even before Tulpa.info that term felt like it made them less people and more imagination, when they surely felt like separate people.

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.
