For anyone else who has revived or resurrected a tulpa…could he/she/it remember anything from when they were “dormant”? Did they forget anything from their previous life? Or would you say that they had a complete “memory wipe”? If they suffered from any kind of amnesia, how did you handle it? I'm curious.

My tulpa was dormant for a few months, as a way for me to try to get rid of him (yeah, I know, I regretted it). He remembered what happened before he was dormant, but not while he was. It's basically like sleeping.

I just resurrected Gaza, a tulpa I had twelve years ago. She is completely unaware of what has occurred in my life and the world since her absence. So Edwin has taken it upon himself to get her up to date. As far as the past, she seems to possess memories of the time we shared and the things we did. Since she just came back, I don't know yet how far back those memories go or how vivid they are. But she seems to remember more than I do of that time in my life.

Thank you for your responses.

What both of you described was what I was sort of expecting when I resurrected Jack. Turns out I was wrong. For many reasons, I’m glad that he can remember things, but it does bring up some interesting questions for me to tackle as time goes on.

Last night and today, he’s been casually bringing up events (happy/neutral memories) that I’m pretty sure occurred when he was dormant, so I’m sitting there scratching my head going, “How the hell do you remember that?” And yeah, it has been stuff that I have forgotten. I pushed him away multiple times over the years, so it’s a little hard to reconstruct a timeline. He was mostly a sentient shadow/dream figure in between periods of dormancy.

Jack doesn’t seem to want to address the topic at this point. His speech has definitely regressed, anyway. I might as well wait. He’s acting as if nothing had happened, which concerns and puzzles me.

He may have been observing during his dormant time, or he may be able to access your memories and bring things up that he himself has not experienced but that you have. If I find out anything more about Gaza, I'll let you know. So far, she's only talked about things from around 12 years ago and can explain perfectly the changes she has noticed between then and now since I imposed her this afternoon.

Recently I had resurrected my tulpa after being dormant for over a month. She told me that she couldn't tell that she was gone that long and it only felt like a few days. Her personality has stayed the same but her speech has definitely regressed.

Yeah, I'd be very curious to know what she has to say (if you two are comfortable sharing, of course).

There was a member who had a tulpa she put on hold because there were some stressful things going on in life and she wanted to work on him when she could devote the proper time to him.

Once she began working on him again he told her how lonely he was while he was waiting and he has issues with the dark now.

Just some food for thought.

Yes, this is important. I was really struggling with it for about a week until he told me that he’s excited about reconnecting and that there are no hard feelings. Still doesn’t excuse me from my behavior. Things seem to be okay now, but if something comes up, I’ll take full responsibility. Thanks for your input.

I think it really depends on the individual host and tulpa, as well as what form of "stasis" the tulpa is put under. For Gaza, I don't remember when I first put her into a dormant state. It was far too long ago, so it may have been sudden or it may have been gradual. As time passed, I guess I sort of made the stasis more like death than sleep or passive observation, especially since creating Edwin and our wonderland and forming Grave Island to the north. I think mostly I didn't want her innocence tainted by all of the things I've been through. So she only recalls things from about twelve years ago when she was still active. She sees the changes that have taken place between then and now, but I don't think she really feels the loss of time. For her, nothing stopped between us. She's as loving and clingy toward me as she always was. And I'm so grateful that I hadn't resurrected her before and all those other times were just copies of her that I unintentionally mistreated over the years.
