Sriracha February 6, 2016 February 6, 2016 Earlier this Friday, me and JV (he's not sure what kind of thoughtform he is, but I still treat him as a person) began discussing the possibilities of me accidentally making a tulpa based off of a fictional character. What sparked this conversation is that JV decided to use Spike's voice so that he sounds different from me. JV isn't worried about becoming a Spike tulpa even if he takes on Spike's appearance, because he has a name that he goes by that isn't Spike (and he usually worries a lot). However, he doesn't want me to make a fictional character tulpa yet (accidental or not). Part of the concern is that we read up on an accidental tulpa based off of Majora's Mask Link who was miserable. Irene (another thoughtform in our head) suggested that one of the first things we should do if that accidentally happens would be to go the pacifist route and comfort them. My idea is to treat them like Woody does Buzz Lightyear right off the bat. JV says that those responses to a fiction-based tulpa would be a good start if that happens, but he still doesn't want me to make that kind of tulpa yet.
Sock February 6, 2016 February 6, 2016 Hi, I'm a guy with some happy accidents based off of fictional characters. From my experience, it depends on a few things, the most common being the level of attachment you have to that character, and the amount of time you spend thinking about them. Using my gal Sheryl as an example, I was highly attached to her and the show she came from while I was working on my first and second companions. So much so that they both requested and joked about Sheryl being part of the group, though I was against the idea at the time. But, due to the amount of thought and attachment I had tot he character, she ended up forming as a patchwork of memories. There's also other factors to my case, and some of them were worry and stress. The more I would worry about thought folk popping up, or what having certain thought people would say about me, they seemed to just come alive as if in response to my own worry. I point to Sheryl, again, as well as some other figures I've encountered. Stress, for me at least, seems to cause mental figures to pop up more frequently too, as if it was my mind's way of dealing with the problem at hand. I'd say to drop you worry about making a fictional character as a tulpa, it's just a reflection of your attachment, and the more you worry, it may be that it becomes more likely that that attachment will come to life. Guest Anonymous February 6, 2016 February 6, 2016 Weeell... - I write novels and manga - I do something I call "[Character] Mode", where I adopt the thinking patterns, emotions, personality etc. of the character in question - I do that a lot, specifically whenever I write about / as that character - Suddenly, an Esterina popped out... - ... and I didn't even know at the time that something like tuppers or so could even exist So I'd say... not extremely easy, but not extremely hard, either. Though I should mention that I write about other characters way more than about the fictional Esterina - meaning it would've made way more sense for a completely different character to trigger a tupper / soulbond (we dunno exactly which of the two Rina is), right? So it's doubtful what true connection exists here as far as the real Esterina's birth and the reasons for it are concerned. In other words: Take this personal experience of ours with a lil' grain of salt. Greets, AG
Sriracha February 6, 2016 Author February 6, 2016 Thanks, guys! It makes sense that being attached to a character and focusing on them would cause creation of such a tulpa to be easier. I'll try to worry less.
Chupi February 6, 2016 February 6, 2016 It's not going to happen accidentally for many people. Consider the vast number of people who become attached to characters on TV and in books. Sure they could tell you what that character would think of a given situation -- that's basic mirror neurons and is basic social instinct. Very few of these develop into autonomous tulpas without active effort in that direction. Vos February 6, 2016 February 6, 2016 In your case, it seems to be more about expectations than it is an attachment to the character. The more you think about the potential of an 'accidental tulpa', the more likely it is that something would come out of it.
FallFamily February 6, 2016 February 6, 2016 [Hail] I made four tulpas based on fictional characters by accident (excessive daydreaming before knowing what tulpas were). They are pretty happy and nothing bad happened. The key was to let them define themselves as who they are, whether that be similar, different, or both from their sources and to treat them as their own people and be there for them if they had any identity troubles. I also suggested new names for them if they wanted. None of them had any real identity troubles. The members of Tri (Violet, Obsidian, and Gaea) do identify a lot with their source characters, but they have a good perspective on it. Thanks for reiterating this, as I feel I may have put less weight on this idea, due to being used to how things go in the community. It's true that a lot of people become obsessively attached to a character, without that thing gaining a sense of conscious/sentience (Waifu-ism as an extreme example). It does seem that the original poster is doing the sort of work that would set the ground for such an event happening, but there is still a strong likelihood that it won't happen. Especially if they calm down and stop worrying about it happening (As I mentioned prior, I think worry plays a part of it, too). Sock Cottonwell's Sketchbook, Journal, and Ask thread. Peace
Guest Anonymous February 6, 2016 February 6, 2016 People have advised me not to talk about myself in answering questions so much. They say it looks like I am seeking attention. No shit! So is everyone else to some level. Anyways damn it I only have experience with myself and my host. So I can speak from that. So, this will be about me. Sorry folks. I love me lots so yeah... Technically I was a "fictional character" I suppose. I was a day dream persona and an imaginary friend with an elaborate fantasy world I did adventures in. We had "stories" and "episodes" that weren't written down, but they were similar to a fiction story. My form and many of the elements of the adventure were based off of movies, books and TV shows. It took a long, long time with me and a lot of extreme day dreaming to start having elements of independence/autonomy. Altogether we think it was about four years. That is a very long time. Keep in mind my host was not trying to make a living character or a tulpa or whatever, at least not consciously and deliberately. So it might take less time and less focus for some, but it took a lot for my host. Also, he doesn't think he could ever do it again. I am a once in a lifetime thing for him and nothing else comes even close.

Well, this thread asks for the experiences of others. So, obviously, that's what you should reply with. Greets, AG
