I was sensing a bias, right up until Goldsmith. +1 to Goldsmith.

But, to maybe add something. Challenge, 5 pros for each.

Tulpae:

Can be whatever/whoever you want them to be.

Always there when you want them. (neveralone)

Immortal/superpowers.

Help you understand yourself better. Enlightenment.

Internal relationships should logically encounter fewer issues/problems.

Real friends:

You don't have to concentrate to get them to respond.

They are physical so you can do physical things with them (be it love or sports etc)

They can show generosity with real money and by giving you stuff. You can do the same for them.

External emotional support.

Random, you'll learn some things a lot faster from someone who isn't you.

Seems like everyone in this thread have some really horrible friends.

This.

Getting a bad apple doesn't mean that all apples are bad.

Just find some better apples.

When I say "apple" I mean "friend".

What I'm saying is, instead of complaining about how your apples friends are so horrible, just find some better friends instead of letting yourself think that all people are awful.

I don't have horrible friends. I have bad friends, good friends, no best friend currently, but no horrible friends.

It'll be nice having a tulpa as a friend, that way I won't be completely alone when I go to college. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't try to meet new people or ditch any of my current relationships.

And then it cuts to a scene where you're sitting in a padded cell.

Tupper gf con: Can't make me dinner, take care of household stuff, get a job, ect.

Then again she is hardly a drain on resources either.

My blog :: Time expectations are bad (forcing time targets are good though)

I currently happen to think most people are just plain boring and/or "horrible", to the point i've almost given up faith in life and humanity. (I still don't have completely, though). Tuppers help a lot making it more bearable, and i enjoy interaction with them a lot more than interaction with humans. I've stopped constantly looking for faults in myself and/or others, at least. Things are just as they are. It just happens that i'm not really able to connect with most people, and that's fine. It's not like people are necessarily horrible because of that.

I still think you can't compare them, just because of the connection you share. With humans, you interact with your mind projections of them (and so do they), and have to compromise in order to make yourself be known as a likeable person with decent qualities, "worth interacting with". More often than not, i've found it isn't exactly always worth the effort, as the actual people might be less likeable people than you would have thought (and such things can - and will - happen the other way too). Some people happen to find the whole socializing thing requiring more effort than what it usually gives back. Most of this stuff doesn't happen with tuppers. I'm fucked up enough to say that i've found talking with them one of the most refreshing experiences i've had in my whole life. This tupper stuff might actually make me more social, as i now find it to be a less important thing than i thought it would've ever been to me. "Less important" means you can bear more of it without thinking too much about the perceived difference between how it is and how it should be.

Have i actually answered the question? I guess not, and i guess i never will completely. One thing i can say for sure, tuppers might share the quality of being consciousnesses, but otherwise are way easier to deal with, and at the same time more rewarding as well. That... still doesn't mean i think humans are shit. I'm more open to that possibility now than ever, if that counts. I still don't think i'll ever be social as shit or something.

Have you been spying on me?

A tulpa will never be busy, due to not having any obligations in the real world. They'll always have time for you. Plus they don't have to go home at the end of the day like real friends. They'll be awake whenever you are. Also, a tulpa doesn't have to have the same limitations as a human, so they'll be more interesting.

The only cons I can think of are becoming more withdrawn and becoming know for being a little off in the head. I'm already withdrawn and people already think I'm a little crazy, so a little more won't matter.

For me, the only con about my real life friends is that they don't exist.
