historical March 2, 2013 March 2, 2013 I think 'tulpas' is best because its an English....thingymibob pluralizer. We're all for the most part speaking English so lets english the shit out of the word. As far as using a Tibetan plural or Latin plural fuck ya'll plurals this is 'merica. (Also, whoever invented the word "lisp" is a total asshole. I never noticed that, now I can't stop laughing... fourfiction, the idiot.
Sands March 2, 2013 March 2, 2013 They is the best gender neutral pronoun we got at the moment so yeah, you kinda have to use that unless you're going a s/he road, which just looks a bit silly. There is plenty of confusion unless you add how many you are talking about, which isn't always possible. Like say, saying "your tulpa". Watching someone use tulpa as the plural when they try to help someone brings those ugly sides to light. He could write try doing x to help your tulpa, which probably causes the person being talked to wonder about that. Should the host try to do it to just one of their tuppers if they have multiple? All of them? Host could even answer with a "I have multiple tuppers" to correct him because they think he doesn't know and that might change his advice even though he always meant it to be a plural. If there's confusion, there's more questions than necessary. "Do you mean just one of my tuppers or all of them?" basically. But tulpa honestly is the best plural after tulpas, fuck this tulpae bullshit, that's not how languages work and it makes you look ignorant. If you use tulpa, you at least have my support kinda sorta, but fuck your tulpae shit. Tupperware is the best plural. Kadoh March 2, 2013 March 2, 2013 "Tulpamancer" isn't correct, either. But we all know it sounds cool, and so does "tulpae." I say tulpas, but I like tulpae. My opinions are all subject to change.
Sands March 2, 2013 March 2, 2013 Tulpamancer is a joke anyways. You're correct if you mean that stuff like pyromancer doesn't mean what people think it means, though. The THE SUBCONCIOUS ochinchin occultists frt.sys (except Roswell because he doesn't want to be a part of it)
Guest Anonymous March 2, 2013 March 2, 2013 We already had this thread and discussed it in other places as well.
Raff88 March 3, 2013 March 3, 2013 Fun fact: there are two other words imported into English from Tibetan: lama and sherpa. The plurals of these are 'lamas' and 'sherpas' respectively. Judging by these precedents, 'tulpa' is clearly going to pluralise as 'tulpas'. I voted tulpa and think tulpæ does have a nice ring to it but after reading this it seems pretty clear that tulpas is the correct term to use and its a little silly to use any other term. It would be nice if we could all agree on one term but if people really feel that strongly about it then whatever. "To think is to create."
