Why do we need to rename it? Most of the people who have heard the word tulpa already know what it means and I have not heard any negative connotations about tulpa. Calling them thought-forms is a little vague as you could thought form a rock or anything else and it would not be a tulpa. Let us just agree to disagree.

I'm okay with tulpa, to be honest. Does it wholly matter that much? Words do not make the man, and a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, after all.

Keep tulpa. It works for me.

Not this. Words are extremely powerful and you wield them like a wet noodle. Though, equally as powerful is grammar and punctuation. Watch an em dash in Shakespeare, naga, and you'll see what I mean.

No, it doesn't it matter.

Yes, it matters to an extreme degree.

Words are pretty inaccurate and do not relate well to actual/true feelings. They're all we have to articulate and express these meanings within ourselves. No one is saying that they are the meaning["man"], rather, they only relate it. And, for me, I want to relate as accurately as possible, which is hard because language is such a bitch.

The problem that Lacquer is getting at is that when we wield this word, it will be completely misunderstood by everyone else.

That's why, simply, I propose we just do what every current textbook writer does and name our term, then define it very specifically and succinctly.

Because inventing new words sucks balls.

Also, for me, personally, and the community as a whole, the word is so ingrained as it is, it is next to impossible to change. Furthermore, this word as been formed so much over the last year (in a linguistic anthropology/etymological kind of way) that it has a ridiculously complex definition attached to it. So much meaning.

Can't tell if aimed at me, but I was getting at what you're saying. It makes no difference to the meaning if we change the word. Keep the word, change the meaning if its really that necessary (I don't think it matters that much, but hey).

My point is, words do matter. A hell of a lot. They're all we got, and getting the right one is important. Words are our main tool of connection to others... 'cept for tulpas and hosts. As a tulpaforcer, you should realize that language cannot even touch/describe the connection/interaction/exchange between you and your tulpa. But it has to, because that's all we got. And to convey such complexities, it must be exact.

Our usage of the word utterly fails to connect with anyone outside of the community. As he said, it's a non-issue. But, it is there.

It's more something we would need to consider if, uh, it needed to be considered. Like, we were expanding... or something... I dunno... The name and the meaning are wrapped up in each other, rather than being two separate entities, so... we can't really change it... We'd just need a super tight definition, and a problem of some sort that could be solved by posting the definition... I guess we basically already do this with the homepage... It would make more sense in the field, so to say... Yeah...

This is more of a point, rather than a counterpoint.

EDIT: I think ideomorph/psychomorph would make a good technical term. I'm all in favor of having a technical term. I don't know the psych vocab. well enough to start brainstorming, though. Yeah... a technical term would solve everything.

Well, there is "auto" and "esis" (process). Perhaps that might help. Will look later.
