Tulpa/host differences

There are ways in which we are very much alike, and others where we differ. Not just that we have two very different backgrounds. Not just that his Wonderland is set in 1921 in a major city in a country I've never been to, but life experiences are ... well, a century and continents apart, for starters. He's from a very close-knit Italian family, and while I'm European, I'm definitely not Italian (never been there either) and my family aren't particularly close, especially not by comparison.

 

FAM is more fashion-conscious than I am, and will often advise me on what to wear. I've never really cared about clothes. (I bought a cheap fedora off Wish last autumn. He thinks it's dreadful - and he's absolutely right! - but he appreciates the effort and realises that we have different budget constraints. - It does pair well with her new winter coat, though!) He loves Limoncello, which I really don't, so we're compromising by making a home-made version that should hopefully suit both our tastes. (While we're waiting for the alcohol to infuse she's bought me Italian lemonade, which we both like. I have to remind her to slow down while drinking it so she can actually appreciate it.) I procrastinate, he gets things done and can help me get things done too. He's got me into watching operas, which I had never really considered doing before. He has Very Strong Opinions about food, especially if it's Italian, but then we're both foodies. I'm just less picky about combinations and am not horrified by ketchup. 😆

We like to joke about just how different we are with each other. I’m a mushy emotional person and Rebecca is much more logical and calm person. I seem to be much more likely to rush decisions and be more stubborn, Rebecca is just better at thinking things through and not worrying as much, I tend to trust her judgment after how much she’s been right. She’s much more optimistic too, she’s encouraging and likes to think there’s always a way to achieve what you want if you put the work in. I’d say I’m a better listener and definitely deal with emotions better. We both have our strengths and weaknesses, and we work great as a team, with our differing views coming together well.

 

We do have some similar interests though the reasons we enjoy those things are slightly different. She’s not as into video games as I am, though she does have some favorites and enjoys being competitive with me. We both like sports though she has ones she likes that I don’t. She also gets more invested into her favorite teams and cheering for them while I more so enjoy following the sport as a whole. She’s way more into reading than me. She definitely gets more invested into what she likes than me, and it bleeds over and I can feel it, it’s a great feeling. It’s cool to see who she has become over the years, and look forward to seeing how we continue to grow.

Personality wise, I don't wanna say we all follow certain archetypes but we kinda do. It's something we're trying to change. That said, Janey is can be awfully agressive about not letting us pick at acne and such just to do the same thing when she finds herself in front of a mirror. No one else really has strong opinions about that sort of thing. 

 

Esper is a bit aloof and sometimes a tad shy, but it overall more "go with the flow" than the rest of us. He's also very convicted in some of his beliefs. I remember back when he wasn't even a week old, I was reading guides and such and was thinking about the nature of tulpas and what they are, and, much to my suprise, little ol' barely forced Esper went into an aggressive lecture about he is very much so real and that it genuinely hurt him to suggest otherwise. 

 

We have different food tastes, too. Mostly with preferences, though. I don't think anyone(so far) likes something that everyone else generally doesn't. Off the top of my head, Esper is fond of eggs(over easy), Emily and Chloe enjoy pineapple juice, Chloe specifically likes honeydew a lot, and Janey and I both adore raspberry. 

 

Curiously, Chloe seems to be more responsive to pain than the rest of us. She gets dragged to the front whenever we get hurt and seems to feel it more than everyone else, often even including the main fronter at that moment.

By now, three years in, our tastes are more diversified than ever. 

 

Examples: gaming, he doesn't necessarily even want to play Space Engineers at this point, but he enjoys watching us play.

 

In tastes, we like sweets of all kinds depending on who you ask, Bear likes Icecream and jam (not necessarily at the same time.) I like crunchy stuff, always did. SheShe perks up to anything chocolate, and Misha loves creamy or chewy stuff.

 

We compliment eachother in ways that keep the body feeling good more so than any one of us would separately. That benefits all of us.

Here are just the differences I can think of off the top of my head.

• Xiri loves to argue while I try to avoid arguments at all costs.
• Anzu really likes marshmallows while I think they are mediocre.
• Sabari hates greasy pizzas but I like them, especially a good pepperoni.
• Noriko would probably kill a man if it meant access to peanut butter cups.  I think they're good but they aren't my favorite type of sweet anymore.
• Noriko's favorite genres of music are Heavy Metal and Darkwave.  I like those genres but they aren't my favorites.
• Sabari for some reason likes pistachio ice cream.  I don't.
• Anzu doesn't care for music much, and with the music she does like, she prefers live recordings over anything else. I'm an audiophile and don't like live recordings at all.
• Xiri likes milk chocolate while I prefer dark chocolate.  She's also the type to want me to chew on the dark chocolate instead of suck on it, which is an absolute heresy.

We had KFC a while back. FAM was HORRIFIED by it and wondered how I could even consider eating such a thing. 😂

 

Grease. It was all grease. Why would anything like that ever cross your lips? You might as well chug on a gallon of cooking oil. It ain't food!

 

... He has Strong Opinions™ when it comes to food. But I guess on the plus side, it made me much less inclined to want to have KFC again, so that's good? 🤷‍♀️ The homemade limoncello experiment (mentioned previously) turned out really well. It's delicious! It tastes different to how I'd normally have it, but I really like it. Ma would be proud.

   We're actually extremely similar in tastes, hobbies, etc. I'm guessing it has to do with how we're basically always co-fronting together, so we just naturally experience and do the same exact things. That being said, there are some variation in how much we like activities, like preferring one song on a playlist or one of us wanting to do a particular hobby more than the other. We even have pretty much the same views on topics too, although the passion on them varies.

 

   Most of our differences comes from the way we talk and our attitudes I guess. I tend to flip through my emotions a lot, while Mordecai has a better grip on himself. He tends to be more positive too, but it just depends.

Overall I'm pretty sure we're really similar. I'm going to exclude my other headmates because I don't know if there's been enough time to draw solid conclusions yet.

 

Some of our Similarities:

• Logical minded, problem solvers
• Persistent and Courageous
• Disorganized, sloppy. I was disappointed to realize this.
• Anxious. Gray jokes I'm more neurotic than he is at times.
• Kind and polite to others
• Liberal, especially socially liberal.
• Procrastinators. I'm bitter about this one.
• Like animals. All of us like looking at birds and cats are cute for everyone, but I seem to like animal documentaries just as much as Gray does.
• Drawing*
• Coding. Although I don't know if I enjoy it as much as I'm eager to get a result. Or I'm just not acknowledging how I really feel.

 

Some of our differences:

• I'm more interested in people. I see myself as an ambivert and Gray as an "extraverted introvert" where he's interested in social stuff but is perfectly happy doing his own thing. I get depressed if I haven't talked to people for too long, Gray does not. Gray can and does feel loneliness, but his social needs are different from mine.
• I think I get more angry when I'm hungry, Gray becomes more sad. I think Gray is less motivated to eat than I am
• I'm okay with doing laundry, Gray not so much. I'm also more interested in cleaning and self-care than he is, although I'm not always good about keeping it up.
• I enjoy writing, Gray does not.
• *Drawing medium. This could be a forced difference, but I prefer digital art over pencil and paper where Gray is the opposite.
• Math: Gray has a math project he's obsessed with I don't care about unless he can show me a pretty picture. Gray seems more interested in chaos where I just want something pretty to look at. I understand math, but I don't feel like it's my passion or anything.
• Food preferences: in general, food seems more bland or flavorless to me while Gray has a richer experience. I like greasier foods than he does, and my food preferences may be less healthy than Gray's.

 

Our differences are subtle, we don't have completely opposing characteristics. Unless we went out of our way to distinguish ourselves, people wouldn't tell the difference.
