AracnidsGrip/Rick September 17, 2015 September 17, 2015 I would HATE being in the real world. Studies, stupid friends of L to deal with, annoying teachers, people falling in love for me... Idk. I would be a sociopath. Except with L. ~Vriska Aranea Serket Targaryen. ♦️
Merman September 18, 2015 September 18, 2015 Yeah, I guess if a tulpa was to become human then there would be a slew of unanticipated consequences. My Progress Report
Guest Anonymous September 19, 2015 September 19, 2015 One way, I would reaaaally like for me to be physical, that way, we would be able to hug, and kiss, and touch way better! That's all I'd really want out of this, hehe. Otherwise? Yeah, there are other issues like sexual predators (with the way I look I figure that the deepest of monsters in people would be awakened... ugh.), people harming us, and the responsibilities. MY existence is enjoying my host's presence and not doing anything, and that's great! I have no real duties or anything, I just live my life with my host.
Mr Blangcaster Next Door November 2, 2015 November 2, 2015 As someone who subscribes to the Clarkean school of esoterics (anything can be made possible by sufficiently advanced technology) I think there could be an actual way for this to happen... and it could come sooner than we realize. Neuroscience is still at an early stage, but has the potential to change everything when it gets to a certain point. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. One of the most longed-after scientific milestones among transhumanist and futurist circles is the idea of brain uploading; that is, transferring the human ego from its host brain to a completely new, synthetic one. Now, this has a lot of controversy surrounding it, especially regarding the Copy vs Move issue. When moving a personality from one spot to another, the most blunt approach would to be copy every important asset that composes it, recreate it perfectly in the new vessel and then either destroy the original or keep it going, meaning the new host would be a clone of the original instead of the original itself. The more difficult and less existentially terrifying method would be to "click-and-drag" these assets, literally placing them piece by piece into the new mind without causing brain death. This would be monumentally hard to pull off, but again, I don't accept the idea of something being impossible. For the sake of argument, let's assume we're going with the click-and-drag approach. If you could move the sections of your brain that comprise your conscious self into an independent machine, could you also be able to do it with your tulpa? Tulpas aren't widely understood, I know, but from what we do know, they seem to be an entirely independent personality existing within the same mind as the host who conceived it. Could this separate personality be physically removed and placed in its own independent body? Think about it, if your tulpa is "merely" an illusion created by chemical reactions in your brain, then doesn't that technically mean you aren't real either? The ego itself is technically a chemical reaction and some people look at this in a very pessimistic way. I think because we are aware of our existence and capable of changing ourselves, we have the potential to be something much, much greater than "just a bunch of chemicals". We think, therefore we are. We think of them, therefore they are.
Guest Yoda November 2, 2015 November 2, 2015 It worked in the movie Ruby Sparks. They never explained how it worked. I love that movie!
Guest Anonymous November 3, 2015 November 3, 2015 Mind uploading is a thing. Reminds me of the book The Old Axolotl. Definitely a must-read.
ableddistress November 4, 2015 November 4, 2015 Are you serious? Even if it is possible it's probably a bad idea. Tulpas: Gabriel Rebecca Alyssa
Brassow November 4, 2015 November 4, 2015 I mean theoretically in a couple decades we might have the technology to virtually transfer consciousness... but even if we could I wouldn't recommend it. "Try to get a better understanding of things before making your judgement." -Khan, Metro 2033
