jean-luc September 8, 2015 September 8, 2015 Anybody else been following the whole Windows 10 spying thing? I'm conflicted. On one hand, I have nothing to hide; I don't pirate games or software, and I don't look at illegal websites. You have something to hide, you're on tulpa.info. And even if you aren't on this site, privacy is still important. See, society is weird. We have these unspoken rules that aren't actually rules the same as laws, in that the consequences are not jailtime but rather peer pressure. However, if there is too much of this then everyone is forced to follow the beaten path. "Whaaat, you wanna buy all of your food instead of doing your own farm? Are you crazy?" "You wanna look at half-animal half-humans? What the fuck?" But really there's no way to absolutely, for sure, tell who's right or wrong; there's even an argument for right and wrong not making sense in this context. So instead, the person going off the beaten path does their things in private, and if they're more successful "hey, now I can work on writing instead of farming", then society as a whole has examined a potential option, and may make that the new, normal path. The minute individuals lose their privacy, society loses its ability to evolve. After all, what if having tulpas ends of being beneficial? Because we have privacy, we can explore this (like we are doing) and see what it's like. Stats is back: https://stats.jean-luc.org/ My visits to tulpa.info are chaotic. Stevie September 8, 2015 September 8, 2015 I think the whole "corporations are way too into our privacy" thing is just a by-product of the fact that there's all these huge conglomerates out there, like microsoft and google, that have sucked up all this intellectual property, and law making hasn't caught up with it yet. We need some trust busting going on. We're all gonna make it brah.
sushi September 8, 2015 September 8, 2015 Happy birthday Enny! As for me, I use Puppy Linux. I never actually install it on a computer, just run it live. If anything at all goes wrong, I restart my computer and the problem is fixed. Plus, it clears my browser history with every restart, which is a bonus in my eyes. And it's also very easy to use -- it has its own package system, but packages from other distros work too, like Debian, Ubuntu, TinyCore, and a few others. Do you have to manually run a script on each boot? Do you have to reinstall everything on each reboot? I assume you save things on your hard drive for persistence of files, but what about preferences? Stats is back: https://stats.jean-luc.org/ My visits to tulpa.info are chaotic. sushi September 8, 2015 September 8, 2015 I remaster the ISO to have my preferences saved on it. It doesn't work for absolutely everything -- I have to tell the laptop every time I boot what time zone I'm in, and what resolution I want my desktop to be, but that just takes a few seconds, so I don't mind. Guest Anonymous September 8, 2015 September 8, 2015 You have something to hide, you're on tulpa.info. Davie and I don't hide shit. So far, peoples just think Davie is a weirdo-nerd-but-still-safe-around-wife-and-children-and-old-peoples. I am kinda stirred up today! Eeeeeeeeeeee! I am like super duper hyper!

I'm the exact opposite; I have to re-launch my browser and music on reboot and it feels like a lot of work and makes me never want to reboot. I sortof have to force myself into doing it. Or the power goes out, whichever happens first. UPS-s cost too much money to be worth it when you have a journaling FS. Oh, and IRC. I've considered but never gotten around to making those three things auto-launch on boot. Davie and I don't hide shit. Sweets September 11, 2015 September 11, 2015 I'm not much into internet security as I'm a total noob when it comes to such things, but hell, I should really start learning it quick. I'm sociable and definitely not planning to go on a crime spree or something, but if anyone official ever goes through my browser history, don't expect me to show up for the next 50 years. It's sad, actually. Sure, everyone's mad about that war on terror, and we all know our neighbors are probably secretly plotting to blow up the Pentagon (or in my case, as I'm German, the Bundestag) - but does that really mean there has to be a whole section of the government dedicated to going through my sad attempts at finding fitting gloves on amazon, with that ''arrr, but she MIGHT use them to murder someone!''-look in their eyes? I'd rather face the risks and have my privacy WITHOUT having to switch to the tor browser everytime I want to look up something that could be misinterpreted... Any advice? ._. kiss kiss I'll try to keep my tulpa out of this forum - no ill will. ~ Everything is fun if you only think about it short enough. ~ [best piece of advise she ever gave]
Stevie September 18, 2015 September 18, 2015 Shot in the dark here, but does anyone like hockey? The season starts October 7th and I'm pretty stoked. Course, my favorite team is the Bruins (hoping they can take the cup this year like they did in 2011), so here's hoping the fucking Leafs get their asses handed to em. Actually, what kind of sports do y'all like in general? Am I just the lone sports bro on the forum? We're all gonna make it brah.
sushi September 19, 2015 September 19, 2015 I'm thinking I might get into fantasy baseball next season, but that interest is more from a good book that I read than any interest in baseball itself. On an unrelated note, anyone tried that ghost pepper griller at Taco Bell? Definitely doesn't taste like ghost peppers, but it's a step in the right direction. It's nice that Taco Bell finally sells something that I can honestly call "medium". "Some things have to be believed to be seen." - Ralph Hodgson
